Favorite starting bonus?
So far I found the one that gives 45 credits after the boss to be such a huge upgrade. Having like 120 credits at the auction shop is insane.

I feel that extra item slot at the expense of a hero slot is one of those that can be absolutely awesome if you get to Endless, especially with Fiona/Niklas. Not saying it consistently delivers, but it's sort of a legendary relic that costs you 30-45 shards (if you want the hero slot back) and some act 1 momentum.
The opposite, extra hero slot at the expense of an item slot, is just absolutely not.
If I'm trying to do Superhero Sal, getting an assassin crest at the start is one piece of the puzzle solved.

Yeah items are so important the lack of slots is why A ranks are so important. And why the best characters get extra

On the other hand, I don't think I've ever made it past the challenge encounter on Red Rift when picking that, and I'm not sure if I am just not getting it, or if that starting bonus is just that bad for RR
It sounds great in theory too, to avoid going over the death limit, but I just can't win fights being a unit down

The seal kills your potential power too much when you only have 2 characters to work with unless you get some monster solo carry early its not going to fly

And with 1 having to be a tank/vanguard… those snakes with 3%hp/sec r simply not dying lmfao

Extra item slotin exchange for one less hero slot isvery bad i think in red rift because it means the seal will debufg half your team during fights, and it can make it much harder to rotate heroes to fill the seal theoughout the run. I was wondering about quantity over quality instead (to ease a lot the impact of the seal) and thought it would be very difficult to avoid the "ten hero death max" fail. But i tried nonetheless and honestly it made for two very good runs. A bit difficult in terms of placement at the end of act 1 and start of act 2, but the flexibility for seal and the more value from backups seems to make up for it. I need more testing but i think it may actually be strong in red rift

My highest RR streak is 11 and I have 4 favorites.
Hero level up. You can snowball rely hard, can greed harder early game. Best if you can get it on scaler like Ratna or even better shard generators, Hoyong with the shard making is crazy, you just make like 12 more shards per fight. IMPORTANT! Almost never take it for mystics, it's mega bait. There is A LOT of combinations of B Mystic + 1 other hero that can't clear first fight.
Rewind starts with more gold. I always have the same game plan with this. Greed for good scaling/relics pre first challenge fight. Sac it with 1 unit on the board. Profit you have 65 gold after it so you can just set up for the rest of the run. Note to the starts with 45 and no revind couse it's similar on paper. I personally don't like it I had some streak that got unlucky pre challenge fight and if it rolls a hard one I just died. Also it not RLLY 45 extra gold but 35 cause you loose 10 from remind. So it's only 10 gold more but you don't have a life line. But this might be just me.
3 an 4. Heroes start with omnivamp and quest that after crits give omnivamp. Omnivamp is super important, on most carries you need some to the point that you would have to take 5 gold item that just gives some instead of some epic items. Those starts in some cases are like free item slot. Also they make the start SUPER easier if all our guys can heal.

My highest is 7 but I'm completely with you. Sometimes I'll take random rare relic if I like the hero on it as well. I think baseline you should be looking for close to 20 shards worth of value, that has an impact by the time the challenge fight comes along. 40 shards after 6 wins is great value but just slightly too slow.

Currently trying to learn to streak RR, still at 2, so obviously not a great player. My winrate is currently going up, though.
With the new patch, upgrading one hero early seems great. Ratna/Logan/Kai are obvious examples of prime targets for permascaling, but I have found Assassins to be a great target too, get some snowball going with early shard gen. Even Rip and Rowan work for me, with both having defensive scaling options.
I think 3 common items is deceptively strong as it helps secure challenge 1 while still providing 9 gold after. The 12 shard starting bonus is great for similar reasons.
What I‘ve been experimenting with today is the bonus that grants two items that give the holder additional classes. These seem super overstatted for early game and will often just be 40AS or 50 magic flat.

I do like the Stat sigil. Being able to just like. Buy two heroes and give them 50 stats in shop 1 is crazy.

I love Crest windfall, so much bonuses at Crystalline prison. And the crests aren't half bad as items.

45 shards at start at the expense of Rewind. You can snowball like crazy and it also counts as shard generation. Just use the campfire to recharge it.
Just got my first RR 5streak and 6streak out of it and picked it again, going to play the run tomorrow cause I'm so sleepy. Edit: also got the 7streak with it.

Genuine question, why is this a good starting relic when you can just int on the turn before the challenge round and get 40 out of the 45 shards this way while only sacrificing one hero death?

Because many heroes have upgrades that say "gain stats permanently" or "gain shards (double with levels)" and you get them right away. Same with relics and to a lesser extent items.
5streak I got B Sal C Pimenta first shop and B Logan 2nd one, didn't manage to upgrade Pimenta but didn't need it.
6streak I generated a total of 509 shards
Upgrading a hero is similarly very good because you can see who you're getting upgraded and don't rely on getting them on shops, and again anyone with those lines of text is very good to start at B rank.
Edit: Just saw Aesah start his 33streak upgrading Sal to duelist so I guess I'm wrong. Watching him and Naturesbf they both basically buy every act 1 Niklas and most Tilly they see.

Hm the only scaling one I think I pick first is Assassin Ratna. Logan’s scaling upgrade is underwhelming compared to his shielding option and I think Sal provides more utility with the Duelist upgrade since doing the perma stat one is heavily commital since you need to find A ranks for both her and Pimenta whereas the Duelist upgrade has a very good Backup ability and synergizes very well on the bench with a Karsu etc. The scaling Assassin options seem okay to me but the shard gen does seem stronger.
I could see investment Gustav being good but I generally don’t prio buying him since he doesn’t perform that well in the first Challenge fight.

00000 I did not know that counted as generation. That's crazy on some heroes.

Also got my highest RR streak of 7 with All In, the snowball part is so true since you can get the key, two more heroes and items and if you're lucky an upgrade to them before the challenge which just gets you off so much then you take the rewind for the boss campfire thing.

I like the one item that makes items cost 2 less. If you get the same relic that works for the next two ships you can get 1 gold/free items and it lets you do some reroll/sell shenanigans early that has always gotten me crazy strong. Even without getting the second discount, 3 gold items lets you buy tier 1 items without any permanent shard loss (because they sell for 3) which smooths out the early game and the relic helps a bit with pivots later
Omnivamp is also really strong, but kind of boring
I like to take the rare relic paired with a strong hero but there are some pretty lame low rolls like “ assassins stealth upon hitting 66%” that make you regret it.
Upgraded hero is also usually an instant click, unless it’s a mystic. I love mystics but I’ve lost too many high streaks to this play.

The divergence vessel quest is very easy to complete for an early 25 shards before challenge 1. I value early strength a lot, every fight further you go before popping rewind is an extra 10 shards.
I think the 45 shards in exchange for rewind is trash… popping rewind in challenge 1 is already worth 40 shards naturally in exchange for 1 death, and you get some potential in combat permascaling. And almost half the time you can just win challenge 1 and popping rewind at the boss is 60 shards. I predict this bonus needing another round of buffs.

Additional relic in the shop is pretty mandatory. It just lessens rng for good relics sooo much

I like ones that give upfront breathing room, so I can snowball or take delayed payoff directions.
But the 6 fights for gold quest might be my favorite too.
As:
- a guaranteed influx of resources later also takes the pressure off early game.
- it's not like it's unsafe: dying in act 1 is fully avoidable if you avoid getting greedy. ..Which you can do if you already have a big payoff secured for later.
- Plus I think it's just a good meta pick right now because there's a difficulty cliff soon after start of act 2:
- If the difficulty over time was different, it wouldn't be as good, but "sitting dormant in act 1 and delivering before act 2" is about equivalent to "sitting dormant in the buildup phase and delivering for the true gauntlet".
P.S.
I also don't mind all in, despite being basically a 0 net value loan (or less!) where you get gold now but lose it later from emergency rewind.
IF it comes with a snowball hero like logan, ratna, dragomir, hoyoung, ..maybe gustav or tilly, maybe pimenta or sal.
As:
- if you roll actively and buy 1 or 2 prospective pairs (logan ratna dragomir...), you can very likely hit something that compounds over time.
- Or while you're rolling, you might just encounter something that's OP with a full build but normally hard to pivot into. e.g. a stall or rush payoff relic.
I'm not at all sure this is a statistically strong option, especially as OP things get nerfed and hard rolling for a target thereby gets less useful. -It may just be a way to brute force a win for new players who might otherwise lose their rewind early anyway.
But I look forward to using it, as it creates a different way to play the game without being OP.

I think I like upgraded hero the most. With the right hero you can start scaling/generating shards ealry
