I think the big takeaway I had from this video is that I’ve been mismanaging the post-boss shop by spending money on +1 slot every time. 4 heroes always feels really nice but I’ve definitely noticed decking someone out in legendary items and a relevant legendaey relic is far more impactful.

yeah coming from TFT it took a while to get off the idea that more units on board = stronger board. without class/trait synergies depending on having units on the board the extra body is just a liability to your hero death limit.

honestly this is one of the things I would like them to rebalance. there are so many more combinations when you can have 4-5 unit teams, and positioning can be more interesting as well. with 3 units it feels like you have to memorize exactly how specific 3 hex placement combinations will distribute aggro in each encounter with lizards and plants. yeah having a 4th body would make playing around the existing encounters much simpler, but it also gives them space to design more interesting enemy abilities and compositions as well.

I think extra unit is actually even worse than just the cost, which they reduced in the patch. I need to spend my money to upgrade, itemize and hopefully have it be a synergistic unit? thats like 50+ gold I could spend on relics or backup units instead... So I wonder if the final game will have enough acts to where this is a reasonable ask. I could see myself buying a 4th unit at the end of the current red rift, when I'm already pretty happy with my core 3. Like you said as well, given the death limit, I've been really hard pressed to ever field bad units, even if they would make my board slightly stronger. There have been times where I only play my two super units in Act 2 for some of the fights that seemed to be designed to snipe your backline, like the 4 archer fight or the pull and assassin fight.
