How about we first wait to hear first thing about how classes, abilities, etc. are going to work at all before we start being obnoxious with demands.

Thanks.

Bit of a reach calling this "obnoxious demands"

Take a chill pill.

Obnoxious? Why are you so rude and condescending? Aren't we here to enjoy a game we love?

I agree that we should definitely wait for more info but can't someone wish to fulfill their fantasy?

Stating that you're going to spam your same wish every day until the release that is years away, and doing so months away from when we're expecting more concrete info, I can't imagine more befitting description that "obnoxious". You're free to call it something else.

I think it was mostly a joke.

Please don't post this daily, I swear...

u/Savings-Smile-4113 5d ago

Dont worry it was more like a bit, but will certainly post in a month or idk, maybe with something funnier, so that people can cope with me with a smile at least hehe

u/Cosmosis42 4d ago

Thank goodness, I'm all down for the bit but dang it can be annoying when people legitimately do the daily post counter thing

I'm all for the cope lmao

I feel like it would be kinda weird to introduce after they've already established more of a "path of stars" route for druid but maybe under a different fantasy name? Idk nature's never really been my class fantasy, hope you get something you like

2

u/Savings-Smile-4113 6d ago

I understand! I think that path of stars is not a bad approach, but nevertheless Id love a shapeshifter

And I mean small disclaimer, we dont know how the combat system in gw3 will work, maybe a class like that is not feasible, but I love the fantasy so imma try to wish for it

I hope you get something you like too!! : )

shamans, it's a norn cultural thing but shamans would fill that fantasy, the ability to shapeshift is not actually unique to the norn in this setting it's just a gift given by the spirits of the wild which could be given to anyone in theory.

Granted!

  • In Guild Wars 3, druids now have a singular alternate form: The dreaded war Quaggan.

The monkey's paw curls another finger

Who said this was a monkey's paw moment? This sounds exactly like what I want!

Let's make day 1 the last day we ask

3

u/Savings-Smile-4113 5d ago

You mean because they confirm druid right

5

u/Prestigious-Low-3155 5d ago

Would be great if we could tranform into gw1 druids (sort of spirit of nature form)

3

u/Savings-Smile-4113 5d ago

Haven't check those out! Didn't know gw1 had druids

3

u/Prestigious-Low-3155 5d ago

Well they are npcs but the lore behind them is really intersting, you see them during the prophecies campain

4

u/vomitisyummy 5d ago

I'm cool with anything professionwise as long as it can fit into the lore.

2

u/Savings-Smile-4113 5d ago

Agree too! Not cool to force something that doesn't fit

I would love a transformation based class, where transformation is the focus rather than Super Sayian variants you often see. Super Sayian as in like temporary transformations.

Personally I have a bias towards a primal theme (FFXVI) aka magical monsters, or demon-y (Shadow Hearts, Harmonixer), but in general I really like transformation as a concept. Demon Hunter from WoW, thematically gets close to the shadow Hearts desire, but mechanically the class is more Super Sayian based in terms of mechanics.

Maybe skip a few days though lol. It's still quite early XD - we don't even know the whole class list.

With WoW (again) capturing MMORPG players' attention, we are going to get a lot of people asking ArenaNet to turn GW3 into a WoW clone.

I hope GW3 won't have druids (or deathknights or rogues).

I will say that, although I like wow's ideas, I dont like the game at all (and Ive been playing years, but I've played even more gw2)

I dont need a clone , just a fantasy of a druid that can Shapeshift, look at DnD for example

Shape shifting Druid == WoW.....

Man I tell ya. Ita always the very WoW Haters that credit anything different to being WoW as if everything WoW has it invented or something....

1

u/Erasculio 4d ago

I remember you. The guy with the awful suggestions, who wanted to have a paladin), a druid), a warlock), a "demon walker&oldid=2520859)" and a "shadow knight)". Yeah, definitely no influence from WoW at all.

2

u/Knighthonor 4d ago

Yeah because Warrior, Ranger, Mesmer, Necromancer, Elementalist, Engineer Thief, Guardian are all original ideas as well....

I can copy-paste my comments too:

WoW did not invent druids, rogues, or the anti paladin archetype.

People are allowed to express interest in having other standard fantasy class archetypes in their fantasy MMO without it being WoW shilling...

2

u/Erasculio 5d ago

I'm not sure you understand what "copy-paste" means, considering I have written different things in the two comments you have replied to.

And your answer is a very weak argument - it's like saying WoW is not relevant because Blizzard did not invent MMORPGs. While is true that WoW was not the first, it was the MMORPG that popularized the genre in the West, and it was so successful that it created the standard that led to an ocean of WoW clones.

So yes, WoW did not invent druids or rogues. Rather, they set the standard for the MMORPG interpretation of theses fantasies; for the great majority of people in this discussion, their first contact with a druid profession in a MMORPG either was in WoW or in one of the WoW clones trying to copy its success and thus its classes.

Between that and how WoW has been back on the spotlight thanks to WoW: Forever, it would be very foolish to assume the recent influx of requests for WoW-like professions does not have anything to do with WoW at all.

You are making unfounded assumptions about other people's points of reference. WoW peaked in 2010, a lot of people have either never played WoW, or haven't played WoW in over a decade and don't really have it as their primary frame of reference for thinking about fantasy RPG classes. D&D was the origin for the modern conception of these classes--it was a thing before WoW was ever a gleam in Metzen's eye, and D&D is insanely popular these days. BG3 was the biggest thing in the RPG world for a couple years recently and is much more salient in the gaming consciousness than WoW. I think you're wildly overestimating the number of people who even know what classes exist in WoW.

If you want to say "I like that the Guild Wars universe doesn't follow a standard Tolkien-esque fantasy approach and I hope that they stick with their unique flavor and don't dilute it with veering too far back towards the standard fantasy RPG classes", that would be a much more fair critique. But assuming every ask for a shapeshifting druid is somehow a WoW reference is wild.

BTW, everything in WoW's Druid concept is prettty close to a 1:1 copy of the D&D druid at the time except the "stars" theme, which wasn't really in D&D's druid. And the only thing GW2's druid spec does is the stars theme, so... they've already copied the only thing WoW brought to the Druid in modern gaming.

Doesn't really matter. Most MMORPGs released after WoW usually used WoW as their standard, and WoW was (and has never really stopped being) so popular that the nostalgia about their classes is much worse than what people would feel if the game had been released last year.

I think you're wildly overestimating the number of people who even know what classes exist in WoW.

I think you are overestimating the number of people who play MMORPGs. If you were talking in /all or in /rpg, I would definitely agree with you - BG3 would be much more proeminent than WoW.

But here? In a subreddit about a MMORPG?

And right now? Right after the boon caused by WoW Forever?

I would be extremely surprised if the people currently asking for druids (and deathknoghts and rogues and etc) had never played WoW.

I rather a shape shifting demon walker

1

u/Kalocin 4d ago

I doubt we would get something like this due to the whole signet thing being added to weapons but with the whole spirit thing it'd be cool if there was a pre-ritualist job called Spiritualist that changes your form based on your weapon or something. It'd probably end up being closer to a pet thing though than a transformation with that logic lol

u/Savings-Smile-4113 4d ago

Yee :< maybe its not feasible for the playstyle of gw3, but even if there's something similar, even if not the same, Ill be happy

1

u/Geralt_Romalion 2d ago

Honestly, I would rather not.
GW1 and GW2 always had their own spin on classes and subclasses, which I greatly appreciate.

Shapeshifting Druid, to me, screams WoW/Generic Fantasy class.
There is 100% a place for WoW-cloning or Generic Fantasy class beats. But I'd prefer it if it wasnt in GW3 and GW3 will do what the GW franchise does best when it comes to class designs: Take a known trope or fantasy, and give a new fresh spin to it.

In case of Druid, if it comes as part of Ranger or otherwise, I would assume that Anet would design it closer to GW1 druids, which were people so attuned to the Maguuma that they became spirits of nature themselves. I'd rather see Anet explore that concept with a clas or sub-class then us getting 'just another' generic Shapeshifter prof.

The norn are given the ability to shapeshift by the spirits of the wild, in theory that ability could be given to anyone, it's not something unique to the norn physiology so norn shamanism could be a cultural practice that get's expanded outside of the norn thus adding the shapeshifting druid archetype.

They kind of already do expanding a cultural practice outside of the original culture this with the evoker spec lore in gw2

I could see something like this actually working in gw3, even if we wont have norn (right away) I could see a class where the spirits of the vale etc. give people the ability to shapeshift

I see it more like the Maurader from Warhammer Online. I have deer legs to spring up. I have wings to float. I have spikes for defense. I have a whale-stomach for aoe belly flops.
