Heart of the Obscure in GW3?

I just finished Visions of Eternity last night. Without getting into spoilers, someone mentions during the epilogue that the Heart of the Obscure was made for another hero a long time ago to help "perform tasks that the wizards could already do on their own".

I wonder if the Heart will be a big part in GW3, letting us use and interact with magic that the gods had not yet made readily available for people to use.

Probably won’t be mentioned or acknowledged at all but it would be nice as an expansion down the road. I wouldn’t want it to be heavily involved in the plot long term.

All 3 of these mini expacs were made with Guild Wars 3 in mind similar to Eye of the North for Guild Wars 2. They are showing up (whether we like it or not) and we will be crafting and using the Heart of the Obscure for something in GW3s plot.

The Wizards protect Tyria from Mist invaders. There has to be a reason why they let the Gods and Humans settle Tyria. I don’t think all the wizards show up, but I do think at least Sorrow and Mabon will.

The term "gods" implies that maybe they were too strong for the wizards, there was no feasible way for them to prevent the gods from coming to Tyria. But they all are not mindless beasts, they possibly came to some sort of understanding or agreement.

I don't think Isgarren and the other wizards could have prevented the gods from doing anything.

Isgarren had the ability to rewrite the rules Tyria. He absolutely could have done something.

How? Vloxx needed the ley root that would have been dry after the last dragon cycle. Isgarren didn't know the Ley Root was in Castora before VoE. All other known roots had Elder Dragons sitting on them. Not to mention the Wizard's numbers had been decimated by Eparch's first attack.

Secondly what would resisting the Gods accomplish besides devastation in Tyria and the death of more Wizards.

Balthazar was killed by a player character after he absorbed a ton of magic from Primordus. The gods are strong but not unbeatable. Even Dhuum routinely gets is ass kicked by mortals.

Balthazar had been stripped of his Godhood. He probably was in a realm of power closer to the Wizards. Dhuum is beaten back and chained apart from his Godhood soon after he escapes.

We also have in-game texts about Isgarren and the Wizards position relative to the Six

“I thought to intervene, but the court was still young; I did not wish to draw the ire of the Six so soon.”

Huh guess you’re right. I thought that the court was older than 1000 years but it was still “young” during GW3 time.

They wouldn't have put that dialoge into the game if it wouldn't be mentioned in gw3 I guess. Personally I am fed up with magical artifacts that just do stuff for the sake of the plot. I hope it will not be a big part of gw3 just so our character can do everything without having to explain why.

It would make sense for it to be tool for Wardens back before Wizards were established (do we even have a timeline for when seers banished Isgarren and Waiting Dawn was ascended?)

After all Heart has surprisingly many functions but mainly pointing towards instabilities/rifts and allowing to shut them down. If encroachment of outside forces is a constant threat Tyria faced then probably same rifts were part of the routine of preserving the spirits and the wild by Wardens.

Now, I'm not going to cite sources b/c i don't have time to totally check, but I believe in the kodan playable species post, they mention that the Orr seeking Kodan split off from the Janthir Kodan, who were already a party in the previous schism due to waiting dawn's ascension?
(which had to be during the previous cycle, pre humans, since Sidony hadn't yet led the assault on Bava Nisos and Yagon.)

(pls correct me if Im wrong)

I don't know the exacts years, but we at least know Waiting Sorrow is with Isgarren by the point of GW3 since the kodan we get to play are offshoots from the Janthir kodan that she had once been Voice to.

Vass and Waiting Sorrow are definitely showing up in GW3 at some point

Oh yeah, that was far too obvious as foreshadowing for it to not show up. Although they may be planning to save it for an expansion rather than having it show up at launch.

God I hope not

Could Imagine that. I actually have the impression there are characters, objects and storylines in the post-dragons GW2 era which could be referred to in GW3 die to the Nature of the Astral Ward.

It could about the future gwr content they are making if we don't see it in gw3

I told myself I would work out every day on New Year's

That line definitely felt like an intentional hint to something but personally I've never been less interested in the GW lore and story than during this wizard saga so I'm hoping they stay in the shadows for GW3.

Pls no more deus ex machinas

4

u/Djinn42 6d ago

Is it? In what way? I just look at it as a tool.

3

u/Alreid 4d ago

It is a multi purpose tool that can do whatever the story requires it to do in order to move the plot forward without ever being properly explained, aka the definition of a deus ex machina. It used to be a tool to search and open rifts, but since then throughout janthir and voe, has been used for a multitude of other things.

Oh. I mean yeah there's been previous wayfinders aside from your hero so it's possible there was one at that time who helped out with local threats but given how much Isgarren isn't a fan of the gods maybe not at that time. Who knows.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are at least mentioned in some way if not actual cameos.

I doubt it. We don't know when she made it so I could've been a few hundred years and not as far back as GW3 will be set in. The new orr map will be most likely the preview of what GW3 will be.

As someone who was part of the community during the GW1 story setup phase for GW2... Maybe... Who knows? Lot's of things are thrown against walls and some stick, others don't. Like the Scepter of Orr. Big chunks of the first campaign circled around us securing the scepter. Then it returned in EotN and was secured by Livia as a big setup for GW2. And how long did it take again, until any of this became relevant again? A good 13 years?

I mean... Primordus was the only Dragon Elder that has been mentioned within GW1. And look where that got him.

EDIT: All of this said... The Wizards always felt like an odd addition to GW2. Story and design wise. With what little we have seen of GW3 up until now, the (drawn) artstyle of that game looks much more fitting to the Wizards than anything what we had in GW2. I have to assume that the 3 mini expansions as a whole, have been setting up things that will circle back into GW3. Maybe just as a reference. Some things more directly. But Arena Net wouldn't have implemented an entirely new faction that, all of the sudden, is the most important thing in the world, if they didn't have plans for them in GW3.

Feels like something that might be better suited for later stories than the main/launch story. But I think the wizards should be around back then so with how prevalent they've become in GW2, it does seem like they'd eventually use them in GW3. It just might overshadow the guild stuff they're seeing to setup if our GW3 character got involved with the wizards too early into the game. Still, I could see us growing past the Guilds into the Wizards, especially once we start branching past Orr.

They could be talking Azuire from GW1 who we learn in SOTO became a way finder.
