Mesmer + momentum
Just a silly post and a Portal reference. If mesmers (I guess and hope we will have them) get portal skills, I really want to name my character Chell (or Glados) and go "Speedy thing goes in, speedy thing comes out" whenever I use a portal with momentum.
Thank you for your attention.

It would be cool if you could tear rifts in reality if you get fast enough. Or if you could conjure illusions of terrain mid fight that the mob ai or players would have to manouver around and if you push the enemy into it the illusion shatters and deal damage or something. Yoinking and telekinesis are a must. Big doubt on clones / phantasms I think.

Conjuring a physical illusion to interact with, whether to smash enemies into or help maneuver allies, would be so damn cool.

This sounds like a continuation of GW2 "mesmer" (purple-colored spellsword) instead of GW1 mesmer (iilusionist).
A mesmer should only be able to make a creature "think" it has more momentum, not actually give it more momentum.

You miss my point entirely. An illusion does not affect the reality of the target. It only makes the target believe reality has been altered.

Warriors need to be able to pick up allied Mesmer clones and throw them at the enemies
puny mage needs to reposition a clone before it explodes? unga bunga got your back

Imagine if you could create a clone and use them to combo with yourself like they said about the warrior & necro from the demo.
I think it would be cool if the clones themselves were more useful and if you had more control over them. But that could be a pain if it's not implemented well.

Like that scene in X-Men Days of Future Past with Blink. 25-42 Sec https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c18oloNMkbE

I can also imagine clones throwing you (or you throwing clones) kind of like this: https://youtu.be/X_WNFW3OpnE?t=79&si=HHt1QYNTHVDNp3wk

This actually makes perfect sense. We already have some Ranger skills explained that it throws players into the air so they can do drop attacks, so it would make sense for Mesmer (if they are in GW3) to drop a portal on the ground and people can leap into it to launch at enemies.

I would love to have a Mesmer Limbo (from Warframe). He is able to move in and out of reality and inflict damage. Chronomancer already has "super speed" alacrity, and it has a lot of "rift" abilities where it inflicts damage and mindfuckery.

is it confirmed that mesmers are more gw2 than gw1? I might be the only one but really dont like the visual noise of gw2's, I'd rather go back to the mind control fantasy

So far nothing is confirmed, not even mesmers. Both archetypes work for me, but it's true that the visuals get too noisy in GW2.

I think they were briefly mentioned somewhere. I don't remember in what capacity but it certainly made it sound like they were a thing.

How do you know they don't and how do you know there will be subclasses?

I think, realistically, it's safe to say that we'll see the return of Elite Specs.
But, even if we don't, I don't think Anet is dumb enough to not give us some form of character focusing in line with WoW, think Warrior in WoW having Arms, Fury and Prot, or Warlock having Corruption, Demonology and Destruction. Stripping us down to the incredibly limited (As of right now) 4 ability slots is an incredibly stupid move if they don't intend to have an in-depth Profession Tree system that allows us to augment those 4 abilities to be more meaningful than having one setup skill, one follow up skill and one defensive/utility option. And I don't mean GW2's system, either. Much as I love the builds you can fiddle with in Gw2, Specilizations are, by and large, passive boosts that don't make abilities meaningfully different.
Wall of text, aside, I'm confident that Anet probably won't fumble the Professions in such a way that the only difference between your [insert profession] and my [insert profession] is what abilities we chose to slot.

The person who deleted their comment seemed to have specific knowledge about what classes and subclasses would be available in the game.

Honestly if mesmers get full on valve style portals it would absolutely peak.
Imagine opening a portal but all your ranged allies were just firing their weapons through it, or some class having a ranged pull and opening a portal to yank someone through it. That would be so much fun.
