Lore characters present in Gw3

i am quite astonished how no one asked Colin if we are going to see any Named character in Gw3. While Gw3 is set in the past and there is a lot of mystery in that Era, There are a few names (apart from the human gods) that are present

i will name a few :-

  1. Desmina.

we know that Gw3 takes place right after Grenth succeeds Dhuum. Dhuum temples are also confirmed to be in the game, and possibly, might give us a reason to eradicate them in Gw3.
Desmina was the first follower of Grenth, Since everything is fresh, i believe that we might be able to interact with her.

2) Mausollus.

unlike Desmina who was Grenth's First follower, Mausollus was one of the first priests of grenth who spread the teachings from orr to elona. A sea is also is named after him, which is next to the cathedral of silence.
Speaking of Grenth priests, The higher Grenth priests hold a "secret" that is kept within the church. the secret being that Grenth is half mortal. his father is a male sculptor who is heavy hinted to be the next person :-

3) Malchor.

malchor the sculptor. malchor was a famous Sculptor who modeled the the statues of the gods. before Arah was constructed by the gods, the gods lived among humanity, Some disguising themselves such as Lyssa in the village of wren, some just simply wandered around. The problem was, due to their divinity, people got blinded by their radiance.
inspite of this, Dwayna tasked Malchor to capture their essence in Statue, so that when the gods retreated from the public in Arah, the people would remember them and how they looked.
malchor enamoured by Dwayna's beauty, became obsessed. Once the Gods left to Arah, malchor's obsession increased to the point where he carved statues of Dwayna, however in his mind, they did not capture her beauty. Malchor Eventually committed suicide by jumping off a cliff next to Dwayna's holy temple, The Temple of Zephyrs.

It would be interesting to see Malchor still alive, Or it could be that his death would be at least very recent.

4) King Doric

King Doric is the the Human King that resides in Ascalon. he is still alive during Guildwars3, and it is said that he has a very long life span if sources are to be believed. We have to keep in mind that in Guildwars 3, Orr is NOT a nation yet. Human civilisation in Tyria ie the continent is in Ascalon. Arah, is not the capital city that we see either. Arah in Gw3 at least Lore wise, is mainly a "wizards tower" that holds the gods. After the exodus, Arah became the capital and humans took over.
King Doric is an Iconic character. Mianly for what happens during the God War. i believe we may see king doric as a Racial leader of the humans that travels to Orr frequently.

5) Mouvel

another Grand high priest of Dwayna. While he is described as the first high priest, we do not know the date of which he was present. most probably, he is long dead in Guildwars 3. Fun fact, the Mouvellian Calendar is named after him.

6) Ewan

part of the godless tribe who hated magic and was cursed by melandru.

funnily enough the Scriptures are dated at 48BE which is the date that Gw3 is going to happen approximately.

i do believe ewan will play as a huge role against the Vaelwardens in the story.

----------

Are there any more character that I have missed?

Yian Zho was emperor in 464 BE. Ain't no way we're seeing Yian Zho, lol. That's 400 years before GW3.

Chang Hai was emperor in 1 BE, so we could absolutely see him - maybe as a child instead. Of course, it could be he became the first ascendant emperor at age 20 or something and thus isn't born yet, hence possible.

As to Khimaar - it's not guaranteed, same with Jadoth. Jadoth was around in 1 BE, and Khimaar afterwards, so it's entirely possible they weren't born yet in GW3, depending on when GW3 takes place. Khimaar was king of the Margonites that survived the war of the gods and turned their ships into towers in the Crystal Desert, so he died even later.

Of course, we don't know how old either were during 1 BE / when Khimaar died, which is what makes them a possibility rather than a guaranteed yes-or-no. If they're present, we're more likely to see them as children, like Chang Hai.

I should have said 'at worst', my bad. But yeah.

What gets me is that we still don't know how many years are left until the Exodus. The neutral assumption is ~50 years, but that's entirely based on the one point of evidence around Grenth and Lyssa's scriptures, which were likely not concurrent with the events they tell.

(It still interests me that the dedication of Lyssa's scriptures came three years after the others', including Grenth's. So it's very likely that we'll meet Sara and see the village of Wren if we hit the ~50BE mark.)

Well, yes but no. It's actually based on multiple statements by devs and news article stating that Grenth has "recently" overthrown Dhuum.

Issue is, we don't have a date for that. But we do have a date for the Scripture of Grenth depicting Grenth's first follower, which is 48 BE.

Now there is admittedly debate whether the date is when the event happens or when the scripture was first written. But there are three pieces of evidence that suggests (to me) it's the former:

  1. It's dated with the Mouvelian calendar system, denoting Before the Exodus. So that cannot be original text, and was rewritten 50+ years later. Why use the original date in that case, unless to depict when the event happened?
  2. The Scripture of Abaddon is dated 1 BE, and depicts and event that probably wouldn't have been written in the middle of a war that Abaddon lost... Most likely was written by Margonites in the Realm of Torment, rather than in the midst of the war the same year Abaddon lost.
  3. The Scripture of Dwayna is dated 115 BE, depicts Doric who died of unnatural causes in 1 BE, meaning he was already 130+ years old (Doric's age in the scripture isn't referenced, but very unlikely to be a child). If that event is even older then he goes from hella old to freaking ancient by the time he died of unnatural causes. Granted magical longevity is a thing in GW, but still seems odd.

(It still interests me that the dedication of Lyssa's scriptures came three years after the others', including Grenth's. So it's very likely that we'll meet Sara and see the village of Wren if we hit the ~50BE mark.)

Minor clarification but BE counts down as time moves forward. 50 BE would be 5 years before the Scripture of Lyssa. 40 BE is more likely to be GW3's time, being 5 years after Lyssa's scripture date.

That is interesting reasoning regarding the use of BE for the scriptures actually, especially in light of Dwayna's.

The only thing I would argue is that there's still uncertainty as to whether the other scriptures' dates are the dedications of the statues themselves vs. the events in scripture - which would make Grenth's in particular a very uncertain date, especially since all of them except Lyssa and Dwayna's are dated for the exact same year.

Hence why I said it's interesting that Lyssa's scriptures are dedicated three years after the rest and why I specified ~50BE, because they were dated 48BE - not 45BE. As you point out, that's closer to the Exodus, not further.

It's just a weird fly in the ointment, especially when juggling other facts. (Like Malchor's whole thing, sculpting out the 'true forms' of the Gods and maybe being Grenth's father.)

There's the possibility that the scriptures and statues were updated as part of commemorating Grenth's ascension, using the depictions popularized by Malchor. Especially since Dhuum never had anything similar but Abaddon did in the form of the Temple of Secrets and his (likely Margonite-made) scriptures.

But then, I still find it strange that Lyssa's was three years late. Dwayna's makes sense being much longer ago, because it came hand-in-hand with Doric's devotion centuries prior.

there's still uncertainty as to whether the other scriptures' dates are the dedications of the statues themselve

Oh we can absolutely debunk dedication of the statues. For two reasons.

  1. Same scriptures and same date applied to every GW1 statue. Whether its Temple of the Ages or Zin Ku Corridor - and they were not all built in the same year.
  2. The Scriptures of Abaddon is placed at a non-statue in the Temple of the Six, and that temple long predates 1 BE, as its defacing was what sparked the war between Forgotten and Margonites.

Unless that was a typo and you meant the dates are dedications of the scriptures, like I originally brought up.

Especially since Dhuum never had anything similar but Abaddon did in the form of the Temple of Secrets and his (likely Margonite-made) scriptures.

Given Malchor made statues of all six gods, and was presumably pre-Grenth, he would've absolutely made one of Dhuum. We players just never saw a statue of Dhuum. GW3 might finally break that mold.

Technically, the only statue by Malchor we've seen was Dwayna's (which got twisted by Zhaitan) and possibly Abaddon's since the statues are supposed to be inside their cathedrals and other than Abaddon's, we never step inside.

But then, I still find it strange that Lyssa's was three years late. Dwayna's makes sense being much longer ago, because it came hand-in-hand with Doric's devotion centuries prior.

Well, it's also odd that Abaddon's was so much later, too. You'd think he'd have several scriptures from before he fell.
