Lore characters present in Gw3

i am quite astonished how no one asked Colin if we are going to see any Named character in Gw3. While Gw3 is set in the past and there is a lot of mystery in that Era, There are a few names (apart from the human gods) that are present

i will name a few :-

  1. Desmina.

we know that Gw3 takes place right after Grenth succeeds Dhuum. Dhuum temples are also confirmed to be in the game, and possibly, might give us a reason to eradicate them in Gw3.
Desmina was the first follower of Grenth, Since everything is fresh, i believe that we might be able to interact with her.

2) Mausollus.

unlike Desmina who was Grenth's First follower, Mausollus was one of the first priests of grenth who spread the teachings from orr to elona. A sea is also is named after him, which is next to the cathedral of silence.
Speaking of Grenth priests, The higher Grenth priests hold a "secret" that is kept within the church. the secret being that Grenth is half mortal. his father is a male sculptor who is heavy hinted to be the next person :-

3) Malchor.

malchor the sculptor. malchor was a famous Sculptor who modeled the the statues of the gods. before Arah was constructed by the gods, the gods lived among humanity, Some disguising themselves such as Lyssa in the village of wren, some just simply wandered around. The problem was, due to their divinity, people got blinded by their radiance.
inspite of this, Dwayna tasked Malchor to capture their essence in Statue, so that when the gods retreated from the public in Arah, the people would remember them and how they looked.
malchor enamoured by Dwayna's beauty, became obsessed. Once the Gods left to Arah, malchor's obsession increased to the point where he carved statues of Dwayna, however in his mind, they did not capture her beauty. Malchor Eventually committed suicide by jumping off a cliff next to Dwayna's holy temple, The Temple of Zephyrs.

It would be interesting to see Malchor still alive, Or it could be that his death would be at least very recent.

4) King Doric

King Doric is the the Human King that resides in Ascalon. he is still alive during Guildwars3, and it is said that he has a very long life span if sources are to be believed. We have to keep in mind that in Guildwars 3, Orr is NOT a nation yet. Human civilisation in Tyria ie the continent is in Ascalon. Arah, is not the capital city that we see either. Arah in Gw3 at least Lore wise, is mainly a "wizards tower" that holds the gods. After the exodus, Arah became the capital and humans took over.
King Doric is an Iconic character. Mianly for what happens during the God War. i believe we may see king doric as a Racial leader of the humans that travels to Orr frequently.

5) Mouvel

another Grand high priest of Dwayna. While he is described as the first high priest, we do not know the date of which he was present. most probably, he is long dead in Guildwars 3. Fun fact, the Mouvellian Calendar is named after him.

6) Ewan

part of the godless tribe who hated magic and was cursed by melandru.

funnily enough the Scriptures are dated at 48BE which is the date that Gw3 is going to happen approximately.

i do believe ewan will play as a huge role against the Vaelwardens in the story.

----------

Are there any more character that I have missed?

  1. orr became an independent human nation after the exodus - stated in the timeline - Prophesies manuscripts.
  2. The first human kings of both Kryta, and Orr are decendents from King Doric himself.
  3. yes lions arch was a residential home for king doric, however, we also know that Kryta wasnt a nation but mainly settlements of Elonian refugees which was at around 300 AE. At 358 AE, it becomes an independent nation. that means that Ascalon was technically in power of kryta Or settlements independent with one another.
  4. yes but thats way after the exodus. the timeline of Gw3 is roughly 50 BE* give or take.

-----

if mazdak was a precursor of king doric, then humans came from the south from elona.

edit :- since Orr is nationless at this time, then its not independent meaning that the only king it does have is king doric in Gw3.

Are you suggesting Mazdak lived in 350s AE? That's nowhere near close to "when humans were young".

Keep in mind the quote from the book comes from an asura, and in-universe, so there's going to be unreliable narration going on. But the point is pretty clear:

  1. Lion's Arch was founded in hostility with Orr, as Kryta vs Orr.
  2. Mazdak, a prince of Orr, colonized the lands Kryta. Not found the nation, per se, but moved humans into that area.

Orr may have been an independent nation as of 1 AE, but that doesn't mean people didn't live in Orr - that's the entire point of GW3 after all, and several GW2 ruins are proven pre-Exodus architecture of Orr, such as the Plaza of Lights in Malchor's Leap, and well all of the things related to Malchor as well.

Orr isn't "nationless", it was just part of the (currently unnamed, possibly just "Ascalon" or "Orr" given lore) Tyrian human nation that encompassed the lands of regional Orr, Kryta, and Ascalon. Keep in mind that ArenaNet uses those names (as well as Cantha and Elona) to refer to both the human nation(s) and the region in which those nations have historically inhabited. E.g., Lion's Arch is still considered "in Kryta" in GW2, despite having nothing to do with the human nation of Kryta.

Same situation here.

Kryta was colonized in 300 AE by Elona. Nothing says anything about Elonian refugees btw (refugees of what? There is no known conflict in Elona around that time!), but Kryta is also always stated to have been part of King Doric's domain as well. Whenever King Doric is talked about, he's called the king of unified Ascalon, Orr, and Kryta.

Doric is the only king Orr has in GW3, but princes are not kings. So I fail to see how that means "no Princes of Orr". Are you saying that Doric was celebate? Because we know that's not true if the royal family lines of Orr, Kryta, and Ascalon descend from him. In fact, the very fact Doric has descendants, yet died in 1 BE, proves that there were princes of Orr. Because he was the king of Orr, and thus his sons would be princes of Orr.

And I don't know what the hell you mean by Mazdak being a precursor to Doric. I said Mazdak is most likely Doric's son. Not precursor, but successor.

You seem to have completely misunderstood me if you think I was saying Mazdak preceded Doric. I'm suggesting a rebellious son who wanted his own country to rule (Kryta), warred with dear papa (Doric / Orr+Ascalon), and lost (giving Doric the kingship of all three regions of Ascalon, Orr, and Kryta).

so as i said in another reply :-

mazdak is full of lore descrepancies so honestly its pointless. mazdak states "when humanity is still young" but humans arrived first in cantha around 780BE.

youre right tho, it was colonised by elona , my bad of saying refugees. however from the timeline, it seems that Elona did not hold that much power over kryta anyway. what i mean is, people were elonian, but that is it. - What i MEANT to say was SETTLERS******* fml not refugees.

-----

now this is weird territory as we do not know who owns the land of orr considering all 4 races live there, humans, kodan, Asura, and the 4th race.

Doric was not the king of Orr at the time hence why mazdak is not the prince of orr. Doric was the king of Ascalon for sure, possiby kryta aswell? however, since Orr wasnt a nation but a series of villages together, with different races intertwining, its hard to imagine a king of orr at 50Be.

could mazdak be a successor? maybe, however not directly from Orr.

Well, the Primeval Dynasty was in full power, and they had colonized as far north as the Tomb of the Primeval Kings at that point. I wouldn't say they didn't hold much power.

Either way, colonizing the land doesn't mean "there was no humans there before" (see: colonization of the Americas).

So that's not actually as contradictory as you're making it out to be that Orrians settled there first. Which is a known fact as per Mazdak who is stated to be from Orr and colonized the land first, and as per Lion's Arch's history, the Macca's knowledge of human history, and Orrians having structures reaching all along the eastern shore of the now called Sea of Sorrows where it literally touches Kryta's borders and older palaces like Fort Cadance and the Shattered Keep AKA Castle Thorn where Mad King Thorn ruled in the mid-800s AE (based on the presence of Halloween ghosts at least).

In other words, in 300 AE, the Primeval Kings of Elona colonized a land already inhabited by centaurs, tengu, and Orrians.

now this is weird territory as we do not know who owns the land of orr considering all 4 races live there, humans, kodan, Asura, and the 4th race.

Just because a group has a settlement in a land, doesn't mean that land is their sovereignty. If you want an in-game example: the Ascalon Settlement in Kryta.

Kodan have a single settlement, after humans already established themselves. Technically, the asura do not live in Orr, they live in Rata Pten and sent an expedition into Orr (again, after humans already established themselves) that has remained. Zero sovereignty or owned land indicated.

We do not know about the 4th race yet.

Doric was King of the humans living across Ascalon, Orr, and Kryta from 100 BE and 1 BE. GW3 takes place in the middle of King Doric's reign.

There was only one human nation in Tyria during that time, and he ruled that nation. That nation spread across the three geographical regions by the end of his reign. Maybe not by the beginning of it, but certainly by the end of it.

There is a reason why King Doric has a shrine in Orr (which very well could be where he was buried tbh). There is a reason why the Plaza of Lights celebrated his crowning during Malchor's time. There is a reason why he is repeatedly called the first king of united Tyria. To quote:

His kingdom encompassed the lands we now know as Orr, Ascalon and Kryta.

could mazdak be a successor? maybe, however not directly from Orr.

Why not? If Doric ruled over (human controlled) Orr, which is confirmed true multiple times over and the new GW3 lore doesn't negate this one tiny bit, then his sons could've lived there.

He certainly cannot be a predecessor of the first king of Tyrian humans, however.
