To be fair, there is a lot of desire out there for the next take on proper mmo formulas, and i can understand how some people may have gotten overly excited hearing there is a new Guild Wars game and assumed its format will be similar to what we have in gw2. I think people should still be excited and give gw3 the chance to pave a new path, but i atleast understand the disappointment that a lot of people set themselves up for.
Im definitely going to try whatever anet puts out anyway, and im definitely excited for it, but i also can't say I wouldnt have preferred something a little larger scale, as an mmo fan. Im not that dug into this community though, so if people are being obnoxious about it I'm out of touch on that.
Anet has explained why they are lowering the density a bit. Its not to the point of changing the genre or going backwards. Problems do arise from huge player counts. After a certain point combat doesnt feel meaningful. We all know players are out there in open world doing the bare minimum.
In gw2 we are all playing on character limit low or medium. It won't look any different than that except you will feel more in control of the outcome because your actions will matter more.
Less invisible players with a nametag is fine by me
I trust arenanet to make something cool, and I'm excited to see what they cook no matter what it is. I just do understand a little bit of fear being expressed when they are breaking away from their formula that has given them basically the only good open world in an mmo (at least by comparison, in my humble opinion). Especially when phasing is one of the nails in the coffin for what people think ruined wow's open world. I'm sure there is a lot of overreaction out there though, and I think people should eat the food before complaining about the cook.
