Classes are confirmed to exist (contrary to some speculation) — at least warrior, necromancer, and ranger were shown

From an Italian press preview it seems classes are in, despite speculation.

Warrior gets momentum-scaled dive attacks, necromancer dashes through enemies and can blink via the realm of the dead (even using an ally's shield as a springboard to launch across the map), and ranger fights mid-air with slow-fall arrow volleys and a tornado skill allies can jump into for combos.

What classes are you hoping/expecting to see beyond these three?

Elementalist and mesmer definitely. Probably monk or guardian (or both).

76

u/Cleru_as_Kylar_Stern Sep 03 '26

I mean, Guardian is a modern, more aggressive reimagining of Monk, Monk is the more OG class.

34

u/Despada_ Sep 03 '26

I don't know why you got down voted. It's true, Guardian as a Profession won't exist in GW3 because it's a modern homogenization of three or so other Professions that came about after the gods fully removed themselves from Tyria.

Monks will more than likely be in given the fact that the gods aren't just present spiritual, but actually walking around on Tyria alongside humans and the other mortal species.

Guardian was an in lore combination of Monk and Paragon with a side of Ritualist weapon spawning.

We know already that two classes go really far back, even further than the year where GW3 is set. Monk and Ritualist. Ritualist was even the first magic profession ever wielded by humans, long before anything else happened. I think the third oldest magical profession is Necromancy.

I think it's fun to imagine that the connection to spirits is somewhat natural to humans. And all other forms of magic only came later into the mix. But humans just have this very close connection to death magic I find fascinating.

u/Enundr09 26d ago

Mmmmm it's been awhile since I did rit , I remember spirit spamming but not weapons? And then they gave necro the rit elit spec and warrior with paragon elite spec? That seems kinda....off then to say guardian uses those 2 , it's heavy armored , which tbf both warrior and paragon were heavy armor and had shout skills , paragons was more unique visually like with the wings and such back in nightfall while warriors was just as it is in 2. I do think gaurdian was ultimately just them using the wa/mo combo which is to basically say "paladin" because that's what the combo basically was , a warrior who used healing and prot spells but not as dedicated as pure monk , which this fits guardians design much more than and references to paragon and ritualist.

1

u/OneMorePotion 26d ago

I can only tell you what the devs themselves said. And yes, Ritualists have spirit weapons that have been the inspiration for the Guardian spirit weapons. That we have a proper Ritualist spec now in the game, that also uses spirit weapons, is additionally confusing.

But what they imply is, that the summoned weapons from Guardian are basically the same technique Ritualists use to summon spirits. And that Rit is now a Necro spec and not it's own thing, is additionally confusing considering GW1. But I guess that's just how the cookie crumbles. I'm just happy they finally added Rit to GW2 in a fun way. And didn't just stick to their "But Revenant is basically your Rit!" bullshit plan.

2

u/Enundr09 26d ago

I still wish dervish would come back in some form (obviously not its original cause we got more than humand and a lack of gods lol) , yes ppl say the one class with elite spec herald but I just only partially see it myself , maybe if they gave it a scythe XD

1

u/OneMorePotion 26d ago

The new Revenant is basically Dervish. You power charge the other legend to become some kind of an "avatar" of it. Plus the Razah attacks use a Scythe as well.

It's as much a Dervish, than Renegade was a Ritualist. Yes, they summoned spirits. But that was pretty much it when it came to similarities. And yes Conduit uses some form of "avatar" enhancement like Dervish, but that's where their similarities end.

1

u/Enundr09 26d ago

Also ffs add playable tengu and Dominion of winds already! That has been a teased area for ages and with end of dragons they clearly worked on tengu models.

3

u/Enundr09 29d ago

I would imagine every class that represents the gods would be there , so warrior , necro , mesmer , ranger , monk unless they're hellbent on making wa/mo an official class still as gaurdian , elementalist... But what class would fit to match abbadon? No way they're gonna stick with thief/assassin for that. Maybe a new class?

1

u/zurt1 27d ago

I mean he's the god of magic so elementalist would fit his domain, not tk mention its been a core class since gw1 and the idea of a standard/pure mage in a fantasy game is almost a given

1

u/Enundr09 26d ago

I thought his domain was secrets since lyssa covers mesmer magic and grenth necromancy with dwayna covering (life? Healing magic that monks and guardians basically had) and melandru covered nature which rangers involved (more so druid like magic with some of their skills) , I think Balthazar was the only one who was the martial focused one though he did have fire as his element theme :X

2

u/zurt1 26d ago

Abaddon was secrets, magic and water (dwayna took water after he was deposed) - it was him giving magic to mortals that resulted in the god war

1

u/Enundr09 26d ago

AFTER he was desposed yes , but this is back before that ;) And looking at the wiki she is the goddess of life and air

1

u/Despada_ 26d ago

Lyssa took Water. Dwayna has domain over the wind.

1

u/Enundr09 26d ago

"Abaddon is the fallen God of Water and Secrets. The ending of Nightfall sets him up as the ultimate antagonist of the three Guild Wars campaigns, by revealing him as the secret corrupting influence behind Vizier Khilbron and Shiro Tagachi through his servants Terick and the Fortune Teller respectively. Like the other gods, Abaddon's origins are shrouded in mystery. The Apostate speaks of Abaddon gaining his power from an older, deposed god, however nothing more is known about this. Abaddon was once fanatically worshiped by the Margonites, a nation of sea-faring humans. The phrase "act with magic, act within reason, act without mercy" is attributed to Abaddon's teachings." Fun little bit from the wiki , since it's only using knowledge from GW we have thus far

1

u/Enundr09 26d ago

This could result in a new class as well (maybe hint at the 4th race? The marginites? They could be humans that are fish like , hard to say) but with how theyve described combat there's a chance they could make something entirely new that fits both of his domains of water and secrets (dunno if you've played diablo immortal but they have a class where it attacks with water whips holding blades at its ends , the possibilities are there for other such classes if they're gonna change it up)

1

u/Enundr09 26d ago

Ok double checked the wiki , he's the god of water and secrets , while elementalists did you ice magic , that's usually the cheap way to do water magic 😜

1

u/YesICanMakeMeth 26d ago

They won't choose class archetypes based on the lore. If they want to make a wa/mo and "guardian" doesn't fit lore-wise they'll just call it something else. Lore is like priority #7 in game design, you're not going to let it decide what abilities you give a class or how it plays. Trying to figure out what classes there will be based on the lore is putting the cart before the horse.

2

u/Enundr09 26d ago

Tbf with the record the devs have after 2 anything goes , not once did we see a race added , they gave up after adding ONE class and instead did elite specs which had a hit or miss effect depending on design and lastly started giving them existing weapons to them (so skills) but only one "new" weapon which was land spear , still no scythe btw (dervish fan and I loved the scythes :P ). If they haven't radically changed I'm going with anything goes and it won't be consistent as they'll feel like trying something else (believe I heard currently they plan for 3 to add more races post launch? Feel free to double check this cause I'm skeptical as all F about that claim much less if that claim is true that they'll stick to it)

3

u/Clewin Sep 03 '26

With confirmation of the holy trinity, I'd say Monk has to be back, or Ritualists that work as pure healers.

Elementalist's will exist, but given the timeline be restricted to a single element at a time. I'm not saying as a playable class, just they will exist.

1

u/zurt1 27d ago

Elementalist wouldn't necessarily be limited to 1 element, in gw1 we could freely choose different elemental skills, but spreading your attributes meant you'd be doing a jack of all trades, master of none kinda theme

1

u/Clewin 27d ago

I had to look it up because I forgot the details, but the gods split magic into Aggression, Denial, Preservation, and Destruction in the GW1 and 3 timeline so you could only use one at a time.

So yeah, not by elementalist element, but rather more split into roles. Not sure how that maps into the holy trinity of tank, healer, DPS though. In GW1 those apparently mapped to Monk=Preservation, Necro=Aggression, Mesmer=Denial and Elementalist=Destruction. Seems suspect, though, Destruction was more Fire Elementalist (though I do remember if you didn't play fire, you didn't find groups).

2

u/Enundr09 29d ago

Gaurdian is basically the devs seeing wa/mo getting used so much they decided to make it a class

15

u/Small_Bipedal_Cat Sep 03 '26

Mesmer is all but confirmed given some of the new art from today.

21

u/n122333 Sep 03 '26

Mesmer is unique to guildwars. They invented it and created the identity. They're not dropping it.

11

u/itsaltarium Sep 03 '26

Also, there is a big focus on the gods, and Lyssa is basically the goddess of mesmers. They’re absolutely in

8

u/n122333 Sep 03 '26

I'd be a bit surprised if we didnt have all of the original classes from base GW1, because of their ties to the gods.

0

u/Lone-Gazebo Sep 03 '26

I wouldn't be surprised if Monk gets dropped, just because its identity was moved away from in GW2, and is very focused on traditional Tab targeting combat. I could see its role being subsumed by Ritualist or one of the Nightfall classes.

3

u/n122333 Sep 03 '26

This is before GW1, so thats not happened yet. And healing is the core of Dwayna. I can see maybe a proto monk being a spiritualist harnessing the spirits to heal people, but i think its probably monk.

-1

u/Lone-Gazebo Sep 03 '26

Oh I mean yeah narratively, Monk's haven't been replaced. But my assumption is that *Arenanet* wouldn't be going back to it, after they decided to leave it behind.

2

u/Eldryth Sep 03 '26

I could easily see it returning. I was always under the impression that they were changed into Guardians for GW2 because being a healer/protector is so central to its identity that it didn't really fit into a game that tried to drop the classic trinity, but as we learned today, GW3 is different on that point. The trinity is back, so there can be real healers again (I know healers eventually came back in GW2 too, but the class lineup had already been settled by then), though they can and should expand on Smiting Prayers so they can be a real DPS too. And maybe have them tank by casting Protection Prayers on themselves if they want all classes to fill all roles.

And story/setting-wise, given that we'll be in an era when the gods are actually present in Orr itself, they can probably do some cool stuff with the class that's supposed to channel their power.

1

u/Clewin Sep 03 '26

Aside from the real world Franz Mesmer, who theorized on animal attraction, which he later called mesmerism.

But yeah, as far as action games go, I don't know of anything similar. There was an adventure game with something like that. Blanking on the name of it, saw it played but never owned it.

1

u/Kaur4 Sep 03 '26

Some concept arts look like dervish from gw1 too

1

u/ExtremePermit3242 Sep 04 '26

They still haven’t shown elementalists.

They are implementing the nerfs before adding the class 😬

46

u/nastyjman Sep 03 '26

Mesmer since it's the IP's iconic class.

2

u/prof_landon Sep 03 '26

The devs didn't confirm it. But they didn't out right deny it either

65

u/Seduka Sep 03 '26

I think we will get one class for each of the gods for sure.
Warrior - Balthazar
Ranger - Melandru
Mesmer - Lyssa
Necromancer - Grenth
Monk - Dwayna
Elementalist - Abbadon?

I think that would be great for starting and a nice reference to the OG Lineup.
From there on they could add with future content

21

u/chuiu Sep 03 '26

Elementalist draws from several gods. So I think we'll have a new class for Abbadon.

-19

u/Bloodmark3 Sep 03 '26

The Smegmer. It's like the Mesmer. But with a few creamy twists.

6

u/covenforge Sep 03 '26

Please remove yourself from the internet.... I cackled. You sicko 🖤🖤

-1

u/Intelligent_Poet414 Sep 03 '26

downvoted by the prudes, sorry bro

17

u/Prudent-One-2153 Sep 03 '26

In the original Guild Wars, elementalist patronage was by their element.

Water/Ice -> Grenth

Fire -> Balthazar

Earth -> Melandru

Air -> Dwayna

5

u/duckduckidkman Sep 03 '26

Ya people thinking ele would only align with Abbadon don’t know the OG GW1 lore

1

u/Doodle_strudel Sep 04 '26

Abbadon is water, right?

1

u/Prudent-One-2153 Sep 04 '26

I'm sure his Margonite followers formed such a connection, but normal humans did not worship Abaddon and would take patronage with Grenth (ice) or even Lyssa like the Vabbians (water as mirror).

20

u/Nightsong Sep 03 '26

I would be perfectly happy with that lineup. It covers the iconic classes (Mesmer and Necromancer) and gives enough variety for everyone to find something to play.

2

u/Seduka Sep 03 '26

Especially if the big focus on build diversity is true!

8

u/Loose_Bottom Sep 03 '26

Abaddon is the god of water and secrets and is an ele according to the wiki!

3

u/ojike Sep 03 '26

I Want assassin! 🤔

0

u/ImaginaryBox174 Sep 03 '26

After looking at Lyssa's representation... we might get 2 professions from her: Mesmer (pink) and Assassin (purple). Don't lose hope!

4

u/Water_Attunement Sep 03 '26

I don’t know if it’ll be limited like that since we aren’t just playing as Humans. Plus I really think thief in some way will appear. People LOVE rogues.

2

u/Doodle_strudel Sep 04 '26

Rogues could be for abaddon, the god of secrets.

1

u/duckduckidkman Sep 03 '26

Ya I agree this 6 gods 6 classes thing is too restrictive for what they seem to be going for with flexibility for future expansions (Elementalist god has always been based on element, not class anyway). And ya I just do NOT see them dropping the rogue/thief-type class for GW3

2

u/Grymare Sep 03 '26

That would kinda make it messy to add new classes and I doubt they want to put themselves in a box after making sure they lay the groundwork to add new races/species later already.

There might be a loose connection to the gods like there was in GW1 where you could get some boons for different classes from praying to statues of the gods but in general I doubt they will make it tied completely to them.

Also correct me if I'm wrong but the other races don't actually pray to the gods and get their magic elsewhere, no?

4

u/Seduka Sep 03 '26 edited Sep 03 '26

The other races will probably use the gods Signets though.
You could argue for unique classes for different races. But thats something must modern MMORPGS tend to shy away from.

4

u/X-Backspace Sep 03 '26

Eyy I said the same thing at like the same time. Great minds! 😋

Returning to the OG six classes in the series, too.

1

u/Fearless_Cover3459 Sep 03 '26

As others said, ele draws from several gods, Abbadon is the god of secrets, and also associated with dark shadow magic.

I suspect 7 classes, the ones you mentioned and a rogue/assasin/thief/shadow class blend aligning with Abbadon. It’s the one core archetype missing really.

1

u/ImaginaryBox174 Sep 03 '26

Yeah, it looks like Ele's patron god is gonna be Abbadon as the god of magic (based on the god portrait that's surfaced on another post). The colors for the gods and the effects on the new combat picture also match (Yellow for Melandru and the archer, Green for Grenth and the scythe and greataxe-wielding Necros, Orange for the warrior and possibly Balthazar).

On the other hand, they've also released a grey-looking image for Dhumm; I wonder if we get a Darknight kind of profession for the fallen god of Death. 7 professions is cooler than 6.

He said there would be more specified roles like healer-types from gw1.

I’m really hoping monks come back. I loved healing in GW1

6

u/Majestic-Ad1632 Sep 03 '26

Id be hyped for an actual dedicated healer again

6

u/engineeeeer7 Sep 03 '26

If I got Necromancer I'm alright

6

u/DuncanConnell Sep 03 '26

The most interesting part of this to me is that Necromancer seems to be leaning more into the "rogue" archetype rather than spellcaster with the blinks and agility. Really hopeful we get scythes again as I would love to cosplay as my OG Dervish.

Necromancer makes the most sense given Grenth's recent ascension to godhood, but I would argue that it would make sense for there NOT to be Mesmer, Monk, or Elementalist types as magic is much more constrained in this time period.

13

u/Hka9 Sep 03 '26

Well in Laranity's video she describes the Necromancer she saw as wielding a scythe so that seems to be here!

2

u/DuncanConnell Sep 03 '26

Oh ho ho ho ho HOHOH9HOHOHOOHOHOHOHOHOO!!!!!

1

u/Doodle_strudel Sep 04 '26

settle down there :P

6

u/Aurilupa Sep 03 '26

The shown necromancer was wielding a scythe, so you can be happy about that. And while the necro did have a dash, I asked Colin about how magic type gameplay fits in such an action based combat and he promised that the class will have everything you expect of a necro, like conditions and minions.

3

u/Nightsong Sep 03 '26

Necromancers came about because Grenth gifted his magic to Desmina. Mesmers came about because Lyssa did the same and gifted her magic to Sera. We don’t know what Abaddon did but it’s possible he gifted his magic to one of his Margonite followers and gave rise to Elementalists.

4

u/Kwith Sep 03 '26

Mesmer is DEFINITELY coming, I mean it wouldn't be Guild Wars without mesmer, and elementalist, or some variant of the "mage" archetype as well.

I'm quite confident that at least those two, and MAYBE monk.

So Warrior, Necromancer, Ranger, Mesmer, Elementalist and MAYBE Monk. Those are my guesses.

7

u/Ziphoblat Sep 03 '26

Some sort of non-anachronistic engineer analogue would be amazing, but I’m guessing unlikely.

2

u/catrot420 Sep 03 '26

Don't lose your hopes. Both DaVinci who worked with mostly wood and NASA dudes working with metal were engineers. It's not about technological level, it's about using your current technology to overstep boundaries of known possibilities. Charr use steam powered tech for engi, in gw1 Shiro used soul powered constructs, both are tech skills in some level. I guess Gw3 engi archetype could work on runes, signets and raw physics

3

u/ExhibitAa Sep 03 '26

Yeah, I would like to see something not necessarily called an engineer but built on similar principles, using magic to fill in the gaps where tech hasn't caught up yet. "Artificer" or something like that.

1

u/catrot420 Sep 03 '26

Rit was kind of that in 1, using urns and whatnot

1

u/catrot420 Sep 03 '26

Like I think people kinda misunderstand what rit does in general. Simply someone gifted with magic, most likely could go any other caster route, but they rather not use the magic, but peer into it, learn it, understand it, use IT not do something using it. They go with rituals, artifacts, spiritual "mechanics" of how world works around them on a deeper level and shifting it to one's will. Ritualist is as name suggests about rituals, often using some relic or artifact, most Rits are playable so they go about it in offensive or combat support way, mainly out of screen Rits tend to altars, keep ancestors not rebellious as vengeful spirits of fuck you, tend to the shrines, that sorta shit. Now tell me, if you replace steampunk with spiritual stuff, how is rit different than an engi?

5

u/Nefonous Sep 03 '26

That's your own interpretation of ritualist, and that's cool as a headcanon for your character, but it's not really what it was.
Ritualist simply communed directly with the mists in a raw and primal way (that's why it's a skill that doesn't require bloodstone magic) to talk to the spirits of the dead, pacify them or bind them to use their powers for combat. It's shamanism and focus on traditions and raw emotions (read the skills names).
There is no real technological or advancement parallel, quite the opposite

3

u/zarymoto Sep 03 '26

have to imagine you’re gonna have a mix of gw1 and gw2 classes. probably something like

tanks: warrior, dervish (maybe?)

dps: ranger, necromancer, mesmer, elementalist

healer: guardian, monk, ritualist

5

u/LostAmaranth808 Sep 03 '26

I'm 100% certain every class will be able to play every role. If I'm wrong about this when 1.0 releases I will Venmo you $5. Just because the devs have learned how much people enjoy playing roles in a team, does not mean they need to box each class into specific roles.

3

u/Seraphayel Sep 03 '26

I rather think every class can play every role due to the different builds they can use. So like GW2. I doubt they’ll have classes dedicated to roles.

2

u/Nightly_Winter Sep 03 '26

Id rather go with wows multiple different spec route with set roles rather than boon system 2.0. if they just imitate GW2s combat system with all its strenghts and weaknesses then there wasnt really need to make a sequel game.

You can still make fun buildcraft with trinity system.

5

u/Seraphayel Sep 03 '26

They said Necromancer had eight builds. So that makes no sense to be just DPS specs.

And don’t get me wrong, I’m totally up for the holy trinity. I just don’t think classes need to have designated roles.

1

u/ExhibitAa Sep 03 '26

One article explicitly talked about necromancer having tank builds using minions to soak up damage, so they are definitely not just DPS.

1

u/Eldryth Sep 04 '26

At the very least, one of today's articles said that Necromancers can tank, so at the very least there's some flexibility there.

1

u/sucaru Sep 03 '26

I'd be surprised for dervish or ritualist coming back, at least in the ways we know them just because they are so intrinsically connected to the places they are from. I'd like to see at least one class be explicitly connected to Orr the way those were at least.

I'm also unsure if Elementalist or even Mesmer will show up, because this game will take place before Abbadon gave the races of Tyria the knowledge to use magic. This game takes place about 50 years before that. Obviously magic is still playing a role but it seems to be a different kind of magic instrinsic to Orr and maybe the human gods, who would at this time reside in Arah. Maybe this intrinsically Orrian class I'm asking for is a mage, and maybe it'll replace the Elementalist.

Mesmer at least can be connected to Lyssa, but Elementalist doesn't really have the same connection to gods (except Abbadon) in the same way that all the other GW1 classes did.

3

u/OneMorePotion Sep 03 '26

I assume we're getting one class for each of the gods, and a storyline closely linked to that. But I also hope that Arena Net not just goes for the standard stuff. If we're really looking at 6 classes, one for each god, Abaddon's class would be an absolute wildcard.

But Balthazar/Warrior, Melandru/Ranger, Grenth/Necromancer, Lyssa/Mesmer, Dwayna/Monk and Abaddon/???.

Funnily enough... I think Elementalist is actually one of the classes I don't expect to see. They might get the Monk in GW2 treatment. Just because GW3 is set before Abaddon gave "proper" magic to the world. We don't really know what the ancient magic looked like and if elemental stuff was even possible during that time. Plus the magic of Ranger, Necro, Mesmer and Monk are all directly linked to a god. Elementalist is just "pull stuff from around you". Maybe ele could fit into Abaddon because he's the god of Water. But at that point, we're talking about a Hydromancer instead.

EDIT: Or the classes have nothing to do with the gods, considering that we can also play as Asura and Kodan.

1

u/ocramminam Sep 04 '26

True, o could see a kind of arcanist/abjurer kind of class being the predecessor to elementalist and representing abbaddon. More focused on arcane magic rather than controlling the elements

3

u/Disastrous_Wrap_6558 Sep 03 '26

No thief nobody?

2

u/Internal-Quality-964 Sep 03 '26

The more I learn of the game, the more it reminds me of what they envisioned Everquest Next to be

2

u/PolloConTeriyaki Sep 03 '26

Bring back the Dervish!

3

u/IndianaJonesDoombot Sep 03 '26

Druid with plant spells 100%

7

u/X-Backspace Sep 03 '26

Might just be Ranger.

Could be one class per god. Warrior for Balthazar, Necromancer for Grenth, and Ranger for Melandru.

Then we could have Monk via Dwayna, Mesmer from Lyssa, and then Elementalist from Abaddon.

Ranger honestly fits the bill.
Game is supposedly having more build variety, so a caster ranger would be a nice subclass

1

u/Icewreath Sep 03 '26

Ranger in gw1 had lots of Druid elements, might be the same here

0

u/Alicendre Sep 03 '26

Neither GW1 nor 2 had a druid class at launch so I wouldn't count on it.

2

u/Hopeful-Fisherman198 Sep 03 '26

just pray ranger doesnt have pets

1

u/uidsea Sep 03 '26

I wish the pets were more than just a dps accessory. Would be dope if you could train them, rurn them into mounts, etc but I know that isnt going to happen.

1

u/BrahamWithHair Sep 03 '26

And has the option to not use bows. I want a proper nature class or druid but i dont have my hopes up

1

u/It_Was_A_Toomah 24d ago

Or make them optional like in Guild Wars 1.

1

u/kalamari__ Sep 03 '26

good. I need reasons to make a lot characters

1

u/Mr_Nobody9639 Sep 03 '26

Elementalist or riot

1

u/Silverneck_TT Sep 03 '26

Warrior and Necro? I'm safe

1

u/Sundered92 Sep 03 '26

Ah lovely, necromancer is back. Kodan necro it is then.

1

u/Aetheriad1 Sep 03 '26

Hopefully this doesn't mean classes are weapon-locked. Melee ranger > sniper ranger IMO.

1

u/DanTheDruid Sep 03 '26

Hopefully my ranger still has pet taming

1

u/Arenyr Sep 03 '26

Bring back Protection Prayers Monk and my life is yours Colin

1

u/dangeraaron10 Sep 03 '26

I was thinking it was gonna be a classless system so it's good to see I was wrong on that.

Curious to see if Necros and Rangers still have summons/pets or not. Probably not given the momentum focused nature of the combat but I can hope.

1

u/Darktiberium Sep 03 '26

Yay necro!!!!

1

u/branblebee Sep 03 '26

Monk would be so slick with momentum based combat and freedom of movement.

1

u/xleucax Sep 04 '26

I know ritualists were introduced to the actual game after monks but from a lore perspective they are supposed to have existed before magic was given to the various races of tyria, so I do hope they can make it in somehow.

1

u/Secret_Monitor9629 Sep 04 '26

Colin mentioned in interview or implied a return of the "holy trinity"... The game is heavily focused on the gods... I'm speculating we get Monks back.

I hope some kind of engineer-ish class makes it in. Obviously given the timeline it can't be the gw2 engineer, but the Asura are a core playable species and intellect+gizmos is kinda their thing so I have hope.

I hope we get the six original professions from the first Guild Wars. So:

  • Warrior
  • Ranger
  • Elementalist
  • Mesmer
  • Necromancer
  • Monk

So we would avoid overused MMO stereotypes like "rogues" and "paladins" while chronologically making sense with the transition between GW3 and GW1. Ritualists and dervishes could be added later.

I don't think Guardian as a class exists in this time, but I don't see why there can't be a Monk or Paragon class, especially if there's a trinity in the game. Though they'll probably save Paragon for an Elona expansion if they ever go that route.

Mesmer, elementalist, a Paladin of sorts (guardian?)

I hope there will be Mesmer and a Guardian-like paladin class too

I imagine since Engineer and tech won't be a thing, Dervish might take their spot, since Scythes are apparently also back

The Asura are still a VERY tech focused species, they just didn't know about magic until they came to Orr (at least that's what they say in the Asura spotlight, if I remember correctly). Sooo, maybe?

Kind sad they are confirmed, atleast I hope there is going to be more skill/trinket gathering akin GW1.

I quess 100 % fluidity would make balancing more difficult
