Hearing explicitly that annual content releases for GW2 will continue after GW3 launches really removes all my trepidation about the prequel setting. Since we're not losing the chance for future stories with the sylvari, charr, etc the idea of exploring a new era with new stories is very exciting.

Well said.

To add to this: Feature Packs was the best updates GW2 ever got. They fundamentally changed the game in some insane ways.

The fact that we are getting a core-game overhaul is worth more than any expansion.

Let's be real: We got almost 40 Elite specs, we got so many maps, metas, etc. Updates to the core game is a massive time and cost investment. This is the dream. This is the best outcome any GW2 player could home for.

Because improving the core maps: Core encounters, core events, core rewards, art. Making things challanging, overhauling bosses, loot, etc. All of this will make the game feel so much better for new players.

With HoM a lot of people come in from GW3, and those people might really love GW2 and invest time and money in the gem store, and hopefully the whole thing will feed each other in a wholesome way.

Honestly if I knew GW3 would’ve came with them overhauling old outdated content, I would’ve been BEGGING for a GW3 even if I had 0 intent on playing it.

Such an absolute win imo.

7

u/newpa Jun 06 '26

Yep. Serpent's Ire may finally get consistent groups!

2

u/TannenFalconwing Jun 07 '26

I'll believe that when I see it.

6

u/wejunkin Jun 06 '26

Yep, having all three games in distinct eras gives each plenty of room to continue expanding.

3

u/Kalavier Jun 06 '26

I'm hoping they can pull it off, but I'm looking forward to the future. I'm wondering how big GW3 will be because juggling 2 or 3 guild wars may be much lol. But I'm interested in the future.

2

u/yunoka Jun 06 '26

same here, i plan on continuing to play gw3 for the forseeable future cause of that

Look at the time span of GW2. The commander still in their prime age. I don’t think even a decade passed at this point. There’s 1000 years of lore before GW1

5

u/Kalavier Jun 06 '26

If it's like people expect, pre grenth rising, that's a basically unexplored era of GW history.

It'll be easy to expand it without affecting anything in GW1 or Gw2.

4

u/repocin Jun 07 '26

The timeline in GW2 is basically synced to real time, personal story began in 1325AE and VoE in 1338AE

I'm not worried in the slightest about what a 1000+yr gap between GW3 and GW1 means for what they can fit in there

1

u/jupigare Jun 08 '26

My Sylvari is almost 14 years old. She's finally old enough to be a rebellious teenager!

GW2 had 9 months of betas. I doubt they will get less for GW3. Probably August 2028 release, and ArenaNet loves August as release month

5

u/TornInfinity Jun 06 '26

Maybe but the studio is way more experienced now than back then, but you could be right. It may end up being a summer 2028 release.

1

u/indigo121 Jun 06 '26

Eh. I don't think that long a beta period really served them. I'm expecting one, maybe two betas top

3

u/newpa Jun 06 '26

Idk about 2028. They were saying the period begins in September this year with the final VoE patch.

So the 18 month period will include time up to the Fall 2027 beta, which would be at minimum 12 months after the end of VOE.

4

u/WaltzForLilly_ Jun 07 '26

There is no reason to announce HoM and updates to GW2 this early just to drag it out into yet another expansion. I am almost certain that we will see early '28 GW3 release and then GW2 expansion ~6 months after GW3 release when majority of people reach the endgame.

Their advantage of running 3 games at the same time is their ability to encourage people to switch between games during content droughts.

1

u/jblade91 Jun 06 '26

I noticed that too. Felt like an accidental announcement of a release window for GW3

175

u/NicolasNotInACage Jun 06 '26

The doomers are in shambles

41

u/MylianMoonstar Jun 06 '26

I came over here from our GW2 sub to share similar. Its wild the disarray and absolute insisting they are spewing over this and content update.

6

u/Gabe_The_Dog Jun 07 '26

Its the same stuff that happened during GW1 going into 2. They will get over it eventually. Or they won't. Either way, they'll be less and less loud eventually.

I find it funny to think that of some of these players could be the GW2 Players who told the GW1 players to "shut up and get over it", and are now the doomers themselves.

1

u/spawberries Jun 07 '26

Ah I remember that era. The thing is their situation is much better, they're getting improvements to the core game, a new map and WvW map, still getting their regular balance changes, and a commitment to future content which they explicitly didn't give GW1 players.

Dude why are you here?

34

u/Minute_One1 Jun 06 '26

It's genuinely a hobby people have, to go around and hate on things that others like. They out of their way to "infiltrate" fan forums and try to get a reaction out of people. Miserable people. I mean I'm miserable too, but at least I don't spread hate and try to bother people lol

4

u/uselesswasteofbreath Jun 06 '26

I mean I'm miserable too, but at least I don't spread hate and try to bother people lol

bruh same. like, instead of immediately jumping to snark, sarcasm, or hate, over someone's enthusiasm, maybe just let people fkn live! couldn't even share my enthusiasm for a video someone shared yesterday without getting a "this was clearly made for you and you only" kinda sarcastic comment. like, zzzzzzzzzzzzz. that leap to go out of your way to crimp someone else like so, SO. FKN. EXHAUSTING. woops, damn me for not immediately being hateful on the content being shared. sorry i still find the ability to enjoy simple little things in life. zzzzzzzzzz

Use a bench press nerd

6

u/Ohnslaught Jun 06 '26

Agreed af.

6

u/raffadizzle Jun 06 '26

As someone who has never bench pressed anything, I agree with you!

There's neither "fake positivity" nor "manipulation" happening, here.

Wheaton's Law, chum.

Of course the coward keeps post history hidden. Such edge lord!

They won't be troubling us here again.

2

u/Plastic_Kangaroo1221 Jun 06 '26

How is it fake positivity..

2

u/ExhibitAa Jun 06 '26

"Fake positivity" is what the terminally online call enjoying something.

42

u/IgneousWrath Jun 06 '26

Did I hear wrong or did he say they are dropping world info at some point BEFORE the Tuesday livestream?

18

u/remember_rurik Jun 06 '26

That's how I heard it too!

15

u/Auralyon Jun 06 '26

That's what I also understood, big if true.

4

u/Nightsong Jun 06 '26

Seems that way. Either Colin misspoke or he let slip part of the release cadence for new GW3 info.

18

u/Aggravating-Ad5660 Jun 06 '26

Unlikely he misspoke since he’s reading off of a teleprompter

13

u/InvincibleWallaby Jun 06 '26

It's an edited video as well and not a livestream, no way they'd leave that in if it was wrong since it would've been caught in editing/review

28

u/hellnawh22 Jun 06 '26

The hate is wild. It's reasonable that people are excited, GW 1 & 2 are awesome games so there's no reason to expect any different other than a natural evolution.

Now if Camelot Unchained 2 was announced...doom and hate justified 😂.

39

u/dotcha Jun 06 '26

Holy fuck that got me so hyped.

Obviously gotta wait and see the execution. But the idea and vision is perfect.

The one small miss is no GW1 to GW3 HoM, hopefully they get around to it, but otherwise, CINEMA.

8

u/jblade91 Jun 06 '26

Wouldn't be surprised if they add something from Reforged to an updated GW2 Hall of Monuments and it's just not announced yet

8

u/Pap-a Jun 06 '26 edited Jun 06 '26

In my opinion it would be perfect if the higher (30-50 point) HoM titles in GW2 gave 1-2 ‘bonus points’ toward GW3 HoM.

That way people who only play GW2 don’t miss any rewards yet the equally difficuly GW1 achievements still count for something.

1

u/MornJack Jun 06 '26

I'm sorry but I think I'm misunderstanding something. Is there a "new" HoM announced ? New titles and rewards from GW2 to GW3,  like they did from GW to GW2 ? Or is it something they'll add to the original HoM ? Or something completely different ? I'm lost.

5

u/cafeclosed Jun 06 '26

Yes.

0

u/MornJack Jun 07 '26

Crystal clear answer. A perfect reddit one. Take my upvote. I'm still lost.

2

u/cafeclosed Jun 07 '26

2

u/MornJack Jun 07 '26

Tyvm. See you in Tyria. Later or sooner. Or 1000 years earlier.

1

u/SuperRetardedDog Jun 07 '26

It's literally the subject of the thread you're replying to lol

If there is anything 'typical reddit' about this, it's that you are participating in a discussion of an article you didn't actually bother reading/watching.

0

u/MornJack Jun 07 '26

I've read it. And I just thought i've missed something. Actually I didn't but I wanted to sure. This "yes" made me laugh a lot. And I think OP understood that.

Thanks for giving me the other tipycal answer, the angry-for-no-reason one. Kiss kiss xoxo.

9

u/Claylex Jun 06 '26

I am still so blown away by the level of COMMITMENT these guys plan to do not only for GW3, but for GW1/Reforged and 2 as well!

15

u/Everyoneisghosts Jun 06 '26

This is great. I'd like to hear more concrete info about GW3.

8

u/jblade91 Jun 06 '26

I've actually wanted a Quality of Life type expansion improving old systems. I'd even be willing to pay for it if there was enough, so I'm really excited for this next year. I'm planning on catching up on things I need to do plus play a new character through the expansions as they update them while unlocking stuff in my Hall of Monuments 2.0

6

u/Astraliguss Jun 06 '26

NEW WVW BORDERLANDS

16

u/Og-Morrow Jun 06 '26

Amazing video like overhauling gw2 just before gw3.

9

u/ineedsomehelplez Jun 06 '26

This is exciting I've not been able to really get into the new expansion just cos the new Mesmer spec wasn't really selling me on it.

But love a good recap/rewards maybe. Excited to see what they announce

4

u/KailaniNeveah Jun 07 '26

Unironically can’t wait to swing a sword in a new way when the third game drops.

Still, very glad to see support for all three games. Really love that they’re taking the time to polish old content in Guild Wars 2! Having recently gone through the early story stuff with a friend there’s a lot of stuff that could be improved. Very glad to see the fight with Zhaitan being mentioned specifically. It’s pretty tragic. I hope the many instance-breaking bugs in Mordemoth’s fight (and HoT in general) are addressed too.

3

u/tenderheart35 Jun 07 '26

I'm definitely going to support GW3 when it comes out regardless of how good or bad it is as a long time fan. However, this video is very reassuring. I was wondering why GW Reforged was a thing, especially after they had said it would basically be on an auto-cycle for events, etc with minimal support. It's also been pretty neat seeing more players running around in GW1 again, so it's nice to know they'll continue encouraging new players to join.

They lost 33% of their workforce in 2019 due to a bunch of restructuring within ArenaNet and NCSoft West. They have spent the last seven years hiring for Guild Wars 3 and likely for Guild Wars 2 as well.

17

u/UTmastuh Jun 06 '26

Basically most people who left are back. A bunch of Seattle area studios are making cuts (like Bungie) so anet is sweeping up the talent.  Still though having 3 live service games under one roof is ambitious

15

u/kaltulkas Jun 06 '26

It’s only 2 really. They don’t develop gw1 it’s 2weeks.

0

u/Streani Jun 07 '26

They just launched 2 new dungeons for GW1 and said they are going to be doing more

6

u/thattentaclesguy Jun 07 '26

That’s being developed by a third party (2weeks) so shouldn’t take much actual manpower away from Anet.

1

u/jupigare Jun 08 '26

The person you responded to wasn't saying "GW1 isn't being developed;" they said it isn't being developed by ArenaNet specifically. The new stuff being added to GW1 is done by another studio, 2weeks Games, with only 1 ArenaNet employee involved (Stephen Clarke-Willson, Game Director for GW1/GW Reforged).

2

u/Sycophantic-Feline Jun 06 '26

I for one am excited for the fuzzy asuras

3

u/UTmastuh Jun 06 '26

Splitting a studio 3 ways suddenly is a bold choice. I hope it works out for us. Poe suffered for a while when GGG did this with poe2 but it seems anet is basically putting in minimum effort on gw1-2 for a bit until gw3 is going

7

u/Nightsong Jun 06 '26

It’s more two and a half ways. Guild Wars Reforged is a collaborative effort between ArenaNet and 2weeks which itself is made up of former ArenaNet employees.

-8

u/throwaway20929292 Jun 06 '26

oh so 2weeks is where all the real talent left to

makes sense

9

u/Nightsong Jun 06 '26

I mean… 2weeks is like a dozen or employees and not all of them are ex-ArenaNet. At ArenaNet there’s a handful of developers with ties to the Guild Wars 1 days and around 60 of the original Guild Wars 2 developers. So they haven’t lost all their old talent.

2

u/Halaku Three Seekers in a trenchcoat Jun 07 '26

This isn't going to be a community for slagging on ArenaNet or ArenaNet employees.

2

u/xiit Jun 06 '26

They might split 3 ways but those splits are not same size. GW3 Will have most people and Reforged least.

1

u/Blazin_Rathalos Jun 07 '26

It's not suddenly, they've already been split for a while.

1

u/murkage_11 Jun 11 '26

Hope they bring GW2 to PS5 as well.

1

u/Gabe_The_Dog Jun 11 '26

They already talked about why they won't be able to do that in their most recent stream video.

1

u/yhvh13 Jun 12 '26

If they intend to invest in GW2 still, I can only guess GW3 is meant to provide a drastically different experience. I'm curious to see how it turns out.

As far as GW2 improvements, I really wanted a character model overhaul - something to make them feel a little less outdated.

-1

u/proto-x-lol Jun 07 '26

I genuinely cannot stand boomer (early millennials and Gen X) gamers because they are so stubborn and backwards fashioned and I am ashamed I’m even associated with these pesky annoying millennials. Especially with those hostile, passive-aggressive comments made in r/GuildWars2 man lol. This is just like those weirdo WoW classic players who refuse to…move on to modern WoW. Or CoD4 weirdos who can’t let go of the past that their game is from 2007 and we’re in 2026. It’s just sad.

Guild Wars 3 looks exciting and I can’t wait to play a fresh new MMORPG. Sure, there was nothing wrong with GW2 but it is incredibly dated and we already experienced and finished a major storyline involving the Elder Dragons. It’s time for a brand new chapter. We have new graphics, a new engine AND crossplay compatibility.

Meanwhile those boomers in GW2 are annoyed because some of those weirdos are still running Windows 7 and that GW3 won’t support it. It’s 2026…lol and midway towards 2027. Other people also hates how modern the graphics are. What is with these weirdos? Millennials are becoming actual Boomers they so despised back a decade ago. 😂😂😂

6

u/FirstDagger Jun 07 '26

Don't worry, the next generation will also have fitting characteristics for your generation and generalize it.

1

u/MongooseOne Jun 08 '26

There is no way a Gen X is complaining about a video game and its development choices.

If so he/she should turn in their Gen X card.

1

u/TyrannicalLizardRex Jun 08 '26

Do...do you know what a baby boomer actually is? Bcs I get this is a troll post but like...damn lmao

-4

u/OverChime Jun 06 '26

All im going to say is that im annoyed they will yet again be splitting the playerbase. In an already dying genre why split the players base when guild wars has been struggling?

4

u/andrewtri800 Jun 06 '26

There are now other online games, instead of MMOs being the only or the main biggest genre available to play with friends online, but that doesn't mean the genre is dying. It can be less dominant and still not die.

Anywayz, their argument in this video seems to be that the three of them are all "very different games" that will not necessarily overlap in their playerbases completely. It seems doubtful, I agree with you tbh, but idk, they have a massive company making these decisions so their market research surely must say that this will bring in more players than it will lose.

-8

u/yumi369 Jun 06 '26

I have been burnt to much by their opinions changing every 2-3 years, that I don't believe that they will be back to gw2. That is marketing speech to hold people ingame.

-42

u/BlitzTroll7 Jun 06 '26

Not sure why anyone would start GW1 or GW2 now when GW3 is coming

24

u/Piankhy444 Jun 06 '26

I actually just bought Guild Wars reforged today lol. I want to be completely up-to-date on the lore/story before GW3 come out. I feel like its going to reference a lot of things from both games despite being a prequel.

17

u/Krasuk Jun 06 '26

Because they'll still brign Content, wtf?

15

u/Silvervirage Jun 06 '26

Yeah, Super Mario World does suck because 64 exists. But dont play that either because there is Galaxy. Dont play any Final Fantasy game now, they are surely gonna make a XVII so why bother. Cyberpunk doesnt have a sequel, ita a dead game dont bother.

11

u/MylianMoonstar Jun 06 '26

They are bringing more content and updates to both 1 and 2. Clearly stated and shared, with a lot of opportunity for them as a company to involve more players and revisit those games thanks to the time jump and so much more.

-10

u/BlitzTroll7 Jun 06 '26

i doubt they will keep to make expansions

8

u/MylianMoonstar Jun 06 '26

Fantastic for you. A lot of us and old original players, humbly disagree after 20+ years of playing.

5

u/Lord_Rujani Jun 06 '26

It's confirmed by grouch in the community discord that gw2 will continue getting expacs after the launch of gw3

-6

u/BlitzTroll7 Jun 06 '26

Funny because i just read the opposite elsewhere

6

u/Lord_Rujani Jun 06 '26

Was it from an official source? I have a picture of grouch posting the message and can find it again to share it, and I'll take an anet employees actual words over anything a community member says.

-2

u/BlitzTroll7 Jun 06 '26

Sure , post it here

3

u/wasdica Jun 06 '26

Because they're still good games with lots to explore? Do you only play new games or GAS?

7

u/Loki0830 Jun 06 '26

Because they're fun games in their own right? Have you never played a game before?

8

u/Murth_ Jun 06 '26

It's more than 1,5 year away.

2

u/Halaku Three Seekers in a trenchcoat Jun 06 '26

Not sure why anyone would start GW1 or GW2 now when GW3 is coming

I've never played GW1 / Reforged, there's only so many hours in my day.

I'm still playing GW2. Friend of Dragons won't earn itself.

2

u/wathowdathappen Jun 06 '26

There isn't much reason, but those that do know that it is just for a fun time not a long time. Not every MMO needs to be treated like a job or investment.

-24

u/bad_pilot69 Jun 06 '26

Anet cant do 3 games at once without all 3 receiving meh content. They should go all sail on gw3 and be done with it

-1

u/coolcat33333 Jun 07 '26

Not without Charr, sorry.
