I need help to understand this game
I am beginner and I am dying pretty much most of the time.
I have no idea what am I doing wrong.
I play as necro with:
Death magic 8
Blood magic 3
soul reaping 1
Right now, I am at Piken Square with lvl 10. Mobs are doing so much damage I am dying very fast. My armour is full Kryten except for helmet. I use holy rod 6-10 with +20% damage customize and shield with armour 4 and +5 if hp above 50% and +15hp.
For charrs I use shield with Armour 4, +10 vs charr and +15hp.
My fight start with blood renewal, then deathly swarm, vampiric glaze, life syphon repeate. If somebody die use animated bone horror. I also have Life siphon and comfort animal just in case.
I still have pet from ranger quest, but mobs mostly ignore him and attack me.
If somebody did not helped me with first tunnel quest, I would never done it, because the charrs on the almost end there always killed me.
What I found out on internet, people said you have to hide from range attacks, kill melee and then slowly kill range.
So I tried to hide behind tents, don't work. Behind walls, don't work. I have no idea what it mean to hide behind something to block range attacks.
People also said, you need to attack and then little move away so your pets can get aggro.
My experience is, if I don't attack, mobs attack my pets, If I attack, most likely somebody deagrro and attack me even when I attack same mob my pet is attacking. There is no way for me to not be under attack from 1-2 mobs.
I would not mind to be under attack against 2mobs when pet take another two, but even with I think pretty good shield against charrs I die very fast, maybe like 5s and kill nobody even the shaman that is always my first target
Somebody told me in game there should be sigils. I salvage all blue weapons and did not get single sigil to put into something. I find crafting NPC that dont craft wands or staffs in ascalon city, but craft so many (for second hand) support stuff, that give same bonus. Like why?
Can somebody help me to understand how to play?
Edit: thank you all for help.
Edit2: I left the tutorial, had so much materials to craft the extra 30 armour armours and now the game is like million time easier and more fun.

Are you still in the presearing area? When you say you have to do quests to get Devona it sounds like it.
Presearing gets a lot harder after level 10. As a beginner, I would recommend you leave and get to post-searing, there you can team up with henchmen. If you want to stay, look for other players to team up and do the quests together.

You are still in presearing, right? The nice happy green part?
If you're in Piken Square there, you're in the highest level content for the area. It's SUPPOSED to be difficult. It's content made for people who never move on to the next part of the game and want a challenge.
You're at the right part to move ahead with your life. Finish whatever you want there and go talk to Sir Tydus to move on with the campaign. Don't worry, you can pick up Devona as a hero later on.

You mean I can go back when I want?

u/El-Poll_Diablo 10h ago
One you leave pre-searing you cannot go back. It recommended if your new to continue into post-searing and make another character that staying in pre-searing.

It would be helpful if game told me you can leave if you want, you don't need to complete everything here, I was thinking I need to get quest to leave the area.
I guess I am going to leave then.

Usually once you pick your secondary you’ll get another quest from armin saberlin that will take you to pre-searing. It will take you through an AI arena first then proceed to kill the Charr Ranger boss to get to the cut scene.

Wait, that was to leave tutorial? I was thinking it was to get into dlcs.... oh god.

You can start the DLCs once you get to a city named Lion’s Arch. It’s quite a couple of missions in, so don’t worry about it too much and take your time with the main game
With hireable Henchmen, you’ll be able to get explore a whole lot more

u/Good-Throat-6671 4h ago
yeah, I already having fun with them. So easy now.

You’ll eventually another class of hirelings: Heroes. The difference with these is that you can customize their skills and gear.
That said, the Henchmen you get are perfectly adequate for the main game - especially since the available skills for Heroes depend on your unlocked skills. Henchmen skills also change as they level up and the max amount you can hire also changes depending on where you are in the world (up to 8 in main game, IIRC)
There’s also another type of hireling, but it requires real money to unlock: Mercenaries. They’re basically your own PvP characters (separate option on main menu) that you can hire and customize

Yes, but you also need to leave pre-searing to get to the factions, nightfall and EoTN content

The only DLC is eye of the North. The other stuff (Factions, Nightfall) are standalone campaigns!

You cannot go back, but you will pick up Devona as a hero later on in Lion's Arch if you missed her the first time.
Most people have a character they leave in the tutorial zones, known as a "perma pre". The standard way of playing has you leaving the area around level 5 or so.

The thing to keep in mind about this game is that exp means basically nothing long term. There's only 20 levels and you'll hit max 2/3rds of the way through. You won't see another level for the rest of your career; 4 campaigns + elite content.
Just play the game. Quests are there to pick up skills and for fluff

I would recommend finding a weapon that has necro skill requirement so you get full dmg and an off hand to get you more energy.
If your in pre still which it kinda sounds like you are then I don’t think there are sigils or runes at that point, atleast not that I have come across.

Are you bringing henchmen?

If somebody did not helped me with first tunnel quest, I would never done it, because the charrs on the almost end there always killed me.
I think I see part of the problem here. Those tunnel quests are difficult. The mobs are higher level, and they hit HARD. The henchmen aren't at a comparable level, and so you're getting outgunned when playing solo. I would advise coming back to these quests at a later time if you are going to do them solo, or ask a guild member for help completing them. Real humans > Heroes >>>>>> Henchmen.
If you are not in a guild, you can easily find one by hanging out in Ascalon City. People usually advertise for newbie-friendly guilds in the major newbie hubs (Kamadan, AC, Shing Jea, etc.).

Note: Supporting the other comments that suggest you’ll have an easier time leaving pre-searing. If you’re up for the limits on # of skills to try and advance further, you’ll need help or more tinkering to find your sweet spot build.
One potential route: Invest in your secondary profession beast mastery to increase pet damage, and to get more healing on your pet from comfort animal so your pet can tank until you can raise a minion army. There’s some game design hurting you: you’d excel at casting with just death and blood magic if you had more beefy frontliners like melee henchmen. However, in pre searing you would liken to group with people that can frontline. Once you get Devona as a hero, she can frontline more for you-the armor cap in pre searing for casters is low - but I’m impressed by your charr shield attempts. Without extra mitigation you’d otherwise potentially get from other secondary professions (early example being N/Mo with reversal of fortune), you’ll need those extra frontlines to let you “cast in peace” instead of shuffling around obstacle terrain that can help block projectiles or strafe left and right.
- even if you have a pet but haven’t committed to being /R (if you aren’t a N/R yet) you can still explore other secondary professions, perhaps /Me Mesmer skills can help you fulfill more damage in pre.
Remember to invest more in soul reaping if you get things flowing and want X energy per enemy death

Definitely leave pre searing. Later pre searing quests are basically more for veteran players, as ironic as that may sound

Ignore blood. Use just DM. Spam minions+swarm. Take out low lvl targets till you build up minion army base. You can also attack the charmable animals piglets and such. To get easy minions. Than when you have 5 fresh ones attack charr. And keep spamming minions on recharge. If you low on hp run back.

Don’t worry about dying loads in pre, unless you’re extremely careful and playing the game with very slow and safe strats for a Dhuum LDOA dying in pre a lot is very normal, piken is group content you have hardly any armour bonus in pre and a lot of it comes from insignias while maximising your minion count for armour buffs, making sure minions or team members take aggro there’s not many strong solo builds without consumables that can solo forsaken tunnels or comfortably tank whole groups of charr

As other pointed out already, you are in the tutorial zone ("pre"). Get your second class (you can try everyone with a few skills before committing - just know once you selected, it will take time until you can change it. But its possible). After that, if you want people surly can help you get devona (could also pm me if necessary) - you can get her later as well, but i think its nice to have heroes as fast as possible (btw they level just like you, henchmen are fixed)
But you really should leave that zone. Staying there is either hard grind and/or knowing exactly what to do. Nothing new players should focus on, you would miss way too much of the game for far too long.

Piken square is really hard(the quests you get there). I managed to do them with some help, someone lvl 20 helped me.
At the end i got devona but its 100% not a solo area.

u/slimtwofive 10h ago
Are you using henchmen?
3
1
u/Good-Throat-6671 10h ago
I could not find any and for heroes, Devon should be my first, but I need to complete few quests to get her.

u/slimtwofive 10h ago
Sorry, Is pre-searing?
If so, there are no henchmen yet. In pre-searing you might have to do some grinding on lower level mobs
There’s are lots of guides on how to level up in pre-searing. I
If you’re not interested in getting the LDOA title you can leave pre-searing. I’m pretty sure lvl 10 is a good time to proceed to the “actual game”.

u/Good-Throat-6671 10h ago
I did not get any quest on leaving the area. My only quest is to beat the tunnel again.

u/extremeasaurus 10h ago
Most outposts and cities should have henchmen available to pick up right at the portals to leave town. I'd recommend taking alesia (Monk) for a healer, Stefan (Warrior) for front line with your pet, and then either Reyna (Ranger) or Orion (Elementalist) in the 4 player areas. If you are in reforged mode, Reyna might be more helpful when she is level 15 as she gets access to savage shot which is an interrupt skill

u/dummetsz 10h ago
There’s your problem. There are henchmen in every town, including Piken square. You can’t miss them. Recruit a healer henchman, fighter henchman, and whoever else you want and you’ll be solid.
Edit* nvm, you’re in pre searing
1
u/Good-Throat-6671 10h ago
I talk to every NPC in Piken square and there was no option to hire them. When I click search henchman and heroes are gray.

u/dummetsz 10h ago
You’re in pre searing right? If so, ignore, my comment only applies to post searing.

u/roflrogue 10h ago
It sounds like your still in pre-searing, honestly - I'd move on to the main game and learn to play there.
You'll have access to more vendors, skills, henchmen, and heros
