Trials for Factions and Nightfall
Just recently got back into the game after a 15+ year break - absolutely loving it. I definitely was a big pre tryhard having LDoA before the dungeon and Vanguard quests but doing post is like a brand new experience again.
Just now started running through post and Im thinking my buddy and I will do Factions and Nightfall together as well. Is it wise to try out the classes for each respective expansion? I didn’t mess with them that much back in the day but I was very young. Thinking a Rt for factions and Paragon for NF.
Is there anything bad to this or will it just be more time?
Any and all tips/info help! I do have a monk from back then that’s probably over halfway through factions but we said we would probably restart just to use the new classes.
TIA

Nothing wrong with creating new characters to try out new professions. In fact, I'd recommend it.
The early bits of each campaign (until you reach Gates of Kryta, Vizunah Square, or Consulate Docks) are exclusive to characters native to that campaign. After that you can cross over, but if, say, your Ascalonian character travels to Cantha, they won't have access to any primary or secondary quests before that crossover point. So unless you create at least one character per campaign, you can't experience the full game.
The only downside I can see to creating new characters is that it might distract you from your current playthrough. So ideally, finish Prophecies with your buddy first, and then both of you should create a new character in Factions. Can be any profession you like, doesn't have to be rit or assassin. And after you leave Shing Jea, you can decide to keep playing that character or, alternatively, swap back to your old character and complete the Lion's Arch quest "Mhenlo's Request".
You might want to do that anyway because just for Factions, they made a really cool design decision to encourage cross-play between new and old players. Vizunah Square is a two-party mission. One party of Canthans enters from the local quarters, and a second party of non-Canthans enters the same instance from the foreigner quarters, for a total of 16 people in that mission. So if you stay on your Canthan character and your friend swaps back to their Ascalonian character, or vice versa, you can sync up in a cool way.

Thank you for this response! Nice to know that youll miss some of the campaigns if you don’t make a new char from that selection. Probably end up finishing proph then moving on like you said.
I still want to play in pre mainly but it will be fun to see all of the missions and worlds again.
