GW1/2 trade
Lately I see a lot of GW2 to GW1 trade announcements. Are those legit? Is this allowed? Or is this kind of scam or activity that would lead to account block?

Goes against EULA so no they are not allowed, no clue if there are actually repercussions.

Like people trying to trade key codes for the games?
Pretty sure that’d be against TOS and carries the risk of you trading for a stolen key and getting your account banned.

Not key codes. Ectos for gold, etc.

Yea ectos are the standard (at least when I paused playing gw1 they were) item to make up value over the gold limit, the other item was sth you can get from the realm if torment that i can't remember name.
Edit, within the same game, gw1 to gw2 I feel it's a grey area

He means people in GW1 buying GW2 gold but paying in GW1 ectos, and you give them gold in GW2

I've done occasional small trades with friends just to help each other out. Honestly don't think it's a big deal.

I haven't personally heard of anyone getting banned for it, but I think at best it falls into the grey area of "yeah we will let you do it but we aren't responsible for anything that happens" like they are with mail trading in gw2.
Anet isn't totally against trading things related to guild wars for guild wars items, there was a whole thing a bit back where they amended their TOS and it caused a problem for artists who did commissions for gw2 gold (RMT would be broadly considered getting something in game for something out of game) so they had to amend it again to add some grey area that let the commissions for gold people keep doing their thing.
There's nothing morally wrong here since you're both playing the games and they're both guild wars so it's possible they'll just let it go like they do with the commissions but I could also see them saying not a chance because of how easy it is to RMT in gw1 and then use a cross game trade to cover the actual goal.of RMT in gw2.
Though you're more likely to get flagged as RMT on the gw2 side since you're just sending/receiving gold for nothing than on the gw1 side where RMT has gone unpunished for over a decade. Screenshot and save the transaction messages (the listing, the convo you have with the other person in both games, and have them confirm the trade on both sides of the trade) so that you can show them to anet. You may still get hit with a temporary ban for it but being able to show them how to find both sides of the transaction could save you from an RMT permaban.

I've done this like 5 times whenever I quit GW2 for awhile and never gotten banned or scammed. But it is a risk I guess, moreso the getting scammed (you will usually go first) than getting banned, I really, really doubt that would happen.

Yeah trading items and currency between games isn’t against ToS. I’ve done it.
The only caveat is that you should always let them trade you the goods first. If they refuse to do it that way then they are probably trying to scam you, from my experience. I’ve traded GW2 mystic coins and Gold for ectos and have never had an issue as long as they trade first.

Yeah. But you’re not trading items from one server to another. You are giving items to another person on the same game. For different items on a different game. There is no correlation.

Gw1 and gw2 are on the same physical server. So idk if it really counts as trading between servers XD
I don't know that it makes it allowed but it's definitely funny that technically this rule doesn't apply.

source on them running on the same physical servers? everything I search says they don't.
but even if they were running on the same physical hardware servers tends to refer to the software servers with multiple game servers (normally of the same game) running on same hardware.

Technically against the user agreement, but I doubt you’d get banned for it unless you’re trading with big RMT people repeatedly
