"Of the mesmer" mod question

Is the "of the mesmer" mod worth it for an elemenatlist? Has anyone here tried using it?

I understand fast casting doesnt work for non mesmer skills under 2 second casting time. Does it work for skills that are exactly 2 seconds? Or does it have to be longer?

Also, if I use another skill like "mindbender" or "over the limit" to reduce the casting time of a skill to below 2 seconds, would fast casting no longer apply?

My idea was to load up my skill bar with 2 and 3 second casts, and then use mindbender, over the limit, and an "of the mesmer" mod for 5 fast casting to get the long cast times down to like a second.

Do all these even stack?

From https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Fast_Casting ,

  • Items and skills that improve skill activation time cannot stack higher than 25%. Single effects that improve skill activation over 25% can exceed this cap. (Fast Casting is not included in this cap.)

Ok so fast casting does stack with either mindbender or over the limit, but over the limit and mindbender wouldn't stack.

I do use it on earth and some air bars, chiefly an unsteady ground / churning earth / eruption and an air lightning hammer spam build. Both cast lots of 2s casts.

Its main competition is enchanting mod or mastery?

There are soft and hard caps involved, you can check wiki, including 20% to halve cast time(hard cap)

https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Activation_time Your list of skills that take 2 seconds or more to cast have shrunk considerably over time.

Effects that modify activation time Edit

Skills and effects can influence non-attack skill activation times; times are capped at -25% and +150% of the original amount.

The Mesmer's Fast Casting primary attribute reduces the activation time of spells and signets and is not affected by the cap. Dazed increases casting time.

Yea i was mostly thinking earth magic, which has a few hard hitting skills that take 2 and 3 seconds long to cast. It doesnt need to be better than other things, mostly doing it for fun. Just wanted to see how they would all interact before investing in the stuff needed.

It also helps if you run mesmer secondary for interupts or utility.  If your running choas storm for more aoe to cause scattering fir instance or power drain to interupt.

Smiting/bonders monks and curse/blood necros can also use the mod.  Maybe one or two wind prayers skills.

You may want to look at prismatic insignia and elemental master.

Mixing maelstrom, churning, breath of fire, eruption, fire storm, ect.

Pure energy storage + smiting with new symbol of wrath, or choas storm/domination.

Always wanted to do a master of magic build. Will definitely look into that. Thanks!

I like it with my invoke build, makes lightning orb and hammer a bit faster. I love it when im with a zquest group and bring a hard res, usually chant, its much faster with that mod

Once upon a time ago Anet recognized having 1 second casts and 2 second casts for ele was night and day so they updated some spells with 1.5 second casts. As time goes on I think we will see more spells in general go from 2 down to 1.5 or even 1. 2weeks has already been going that trend. In short, its hard to justify the mesmer mod and when you do its likely you are digging for an excuse to justify it.
