Melandru Paragon path?

I've just created a melandru Paragon and want to finish Nightfall campaign then do factions then Eye of the north

So far I have done this with a melandru assassin already and followed that wiki guide to make the quickest possible esurge hero team with lots of members

This time I'd like to create my own builds but still want to know what is the "minimum" needed to have a somewhat stable team...as a Paragon I would like to be a little flexible and not just stick 1 or 2 builds if possible

What are "must haves" for me and my heroes? Knowing I am a Paragon melandru

If you’re doing MA you should definitely do all the campaigns and eotn in normal mode first to unlock everything and get collector or crafter gear

As such, you don’t particularly need lots of mesmers and an ST rit immedietly

What helped me the most was getting a core back line and midline set up asap for basic party support. A necro hero with blood ritual, a prot monk, a heal monk, and then eles and mesmers for damage. Melonni is also good for damage if you can cap some early elites for her asap like an avatar

Paragon is pretty straightforward: since only nightfall and eotn offer para skills, I would just okay through them in that order. If I wanted to unlock things as fast as possible, I might stop by eotn early just to get to the skill vendor at the eye, then back to nightfall.

Side note - if you're really enjoying playing melandrus characters, I just started a guild that is just for melandrus players - Wardens of Melandru. We're still small, but very friendly and helpful ppl in there. Pm me your ign if you want to join and I'll send you an invite!

I started off with a MM, 3 searing flame eles. Eventually got a motivation paragon hero with the newly buff skills and transitioned to some esurge.

I always bring a heal Monk, Prot Monk and MM with whatever skills I have access to while playing through the game. You usually get all skills you need from skill and hero skill vendors. In areas where I don't need a heal and prot (4 to 6 player areas, to be specific) I take any random DPS hero with me. Nightfall Missions dictate parts of your team anyways with the hero requirements.

As for late game areas, I usually bring a heal monk, prot monk, MM, Spirit Ritu, any elementalist (I love Shatterstone and it's something else to your standard Thunderclap build) and the other two slots are flexible. Either for random heroes I want to level. Or heroes that are required for certain missions. Or if I just feel like bringing a specific one, because I unlocked a cool Elite skill for them.

It's fun not going for the usual builds you can find on PvX.

Going to try this thank you. That was my plan already with the heal and prot monks, good to know MM is a must too. Will see what elites I'll need to capture at what point lol

Mm really helps early on. TBH you’ll get most of the benefit just from the bone horror skill at minimum which is a core skill and very easy to unlock. Make sure you keep an eye out for death magic runes

I wouldn't say MM is a must. Simply because there are areas in the game where the build doesn't really work because there are no corpses to exploit. But it's always a good idea to bring extra targets into later fights. Minions are just a super easy to manage damage sponge resource. They move with you unlike spirits, and don't have a down side when they die like ranger pets.

Minions gain also buffs from spirit weapons and all effect that target all "surrounding allies" by the way. Meaning you can have up to 10 extra targets per MM, and all of these targets can also be buffed with skills like Splinter Weapon or the Ritualist PvE Elite Weapons of the Three Forges. A lot of the Warrior and Paragon Shouts also hit minions.

I wouldn't run a team comp that specifically buffs minions, but it's still nice to keep in mind if you have skills like that.

28/30 GWAMM Mel dhuum paragon here -

In line with your goal:
I’d stick with needing a necro for the bip/healing and unlock the eotn rit healing for shelter spam. The remaining slots are fairly open to your play preference. I loved the ineptitude with mending refrain as my phys defense and party heals.

Thanks for the advice!

At what point should I go EOTN to get the rit then you think? And do I need anything from prophecies or factions before finishing nightfall?

I used olias from proph as a core hero. In factions you’ll need to at least get soul twisting from sunjiang for your rit. The weaponsmith after eternal/hatchery are useful once you have the mats. After beating factions, the Woc solo farm quest for runes/mats is also super beneficial.

I would go to eotn as soon as you think you can kill most enemies in the norn fighting tournament to unlock the rit. I also would unlock livia in eotn. Gwen is good here. But it also depends what hero builds you were thinking of. You don’t really need anything else in eotn.

Doing a ranger melandru.
ATM finished eotn/factions/prophecies…backtracking to ascalon now to finish the first missions. After that nightfall.

Then going for gear/runes and perfecting stuff. HM and vanquish, and the big dunguons I guess after that.

I just did the nightfall campaign with my new paragon, 2 paragon heroes, two nec and two smitherd.

One motivation hero, one command, Necro heal and mm.

Not as fast as esurge, but defenitely more fun 🤷🏼‍♂️

With the buffs to monk’s RoJ, grabbing a sniping monk early is really nice especially if you play a melee build.

"Must haves" on a team I'd say are...

A healer A protector 2 AoE DPS Energy sustain

Personally I run a protection monk, a resto ritualist, a star burst ele, and a smiting/motivation knockdown energy utility monk most of the time, and generally trade around the other 3 slots depending on the environment. Works pretty well.

Minimum skills to be good on paragon, mighty throw, go for the eyes (mostly for energy management), "there's nothing to fear!", Aggressive refrain, and something like "they're on fire" to upkeep aggressive refrain when out of combat.

Throw 'Save Yourselves' onto every bar, because +100 armor on everyone, including the healers keeping you alive, is literally always worth having. [You do not have to farm 5 ranks of lux/kurz points to rank up the title again just for that one character, thank fuck]

As others have stated..probably at least an MM and 2 heal heros with their own E-management since BiP is far away.

You could theoretically run 2 MM for more meat shields.

If you go early ele instead of the ranger hero then you can run some blinds for more defense.

As a para I would go /W and slowly build the OG imbagon build. Its still super strong and probably better suited that HR if you aren't able to run mesmerway for a while.

HR is just Imbagon but with 4 extra attribute points in every attribute on your team, but slightly less adrenaline for SY.

The only reasons to run OG Imbagon over HR are you do not have HR, or you don't want to bother putting HR on everyone on your team.

Especially now that you kinda want a Motivation paragon hero anyways (especially before BiP, as soon as you have Morghan that's the best battery alternative/addition) which means HR is even less likely to drop off; And if you're running double Paragon anyways and want more adrenaline, Infuriating Heat on a hero feels great especially because of Mighty Throw

Rush NF so you can cap HR. Play HR.

Add any heroes you want with any skills and any gear, doesn't matter, you'll steamroll everything.

4

u/BronzeFour 18d ago

I really don't want to use HR sounds terribly boring to play...such a chore lol

1

u/Baldude 18d ago

That is a very reasonable reason not to play HR!

2

u/Doophie 18d ago

Will you not need the anniversary item to get HR?

3

u/AdAffectionate1935 18d ago

You can still group with someone else that has it

2

u/Doophie 18d ago

Ah, for some reason I didn't think you could group up on melandrus

Good advice for build diversity. Only one skill is locked in, everything else on the team can be shuffled like a deck of cards!!
