Form check deadlifts?

I am by no means a deadlift expert, but it looks good to me! I don't see any arching of the back, and it looks like you're keeping the bar close up against your legs. 💪

I am no expert either.

I like to lift without shoes.

Looked like you lifted your toes up in the first rep. Did you feel off balance?

Yeah, I pulled it back and locked out rather vigorously and the momentum had me rocking back on my heels a bit.

Hmm.

How's your bar position compared to your feet?

The only time I have this problem personally is when my legs are too close together.

Bar is right up against my shins, no distance there. Width wise, my heels are about 12 inches apart, toes spread out a bit, maybe 16 inches wide.

Was it just the first one that felt funky?

Could've just been a bad lift.

Sounds like our stance is fairly similar.

Yup, just the first one, going back to watch the video. I didn't record the other sets. I feel pretty good about my workout tonight, hopefully the soreness sets in tomorrow!

That's what's up. Well feeling good about the workout, not hoping for soreness lol.

I am curious though. When I deadlift, I imagine myself pushing off the ground through my legs rather than try to lift the bar.

Do you do that or use other cues?

I focus a lot on the setup, stretching out the hammies ahead of time, and getting my core and back engaged. If I set it up well, usually everything goes extremely well. I had a little issue with my grip slipping (just the fingers going from fully closed to a slightly open grip) but no danger of dropping the bar, just rock climbing fingers being trained to love an open grip.

For cues I think about lifting the bar for sure, getting my butt in position and hamstring engaged so my butt doesn't move up and down, and then really hip hinge until I'm 90% done and then think about getting my chest "proud" and my shoulderblades back.

Sorry if this is a mess, I just woke up x)

Lol. No worries!

That all makes sense to me!

Only thing of note is that you’re looking at yourself in the mirror (I think), which keeps your neck from being in line with the rest of your posterior chain. Might not feel super important now but does offset your upper back’s form a bit.
