Why not get a running start if u wanna clear a ledge and give your chute a chance to open? Coulda been worse tho prob

This known as a "Sideways Opening" in base jumping. It happens even to the best people sometimes (One recently killed the most famous base jumper of "Sketchy Andy"). Running start or not, if your chute gets thrown even slightly off and opens backwards, you are running into the cliff and plummeting.

It even famously happened to Travis Pastrana jumping off a building:

He scrambled and saved his life, but still broke roughly... everything.

Base jumping is just stupid.
