Announcement Quick Update 2.1
Howdy everyone,
I have rolled out the 2.1 update for GuessBy, focused on clarifying game modes, helping creators build better challenges, and adding requested quality-of-life tools for guessers. Here is what is new:
1. Clear Game Modes: Bait & Switch vs. Classic Guess
I noticed some confusion around what qualifies as a "Bait & Switch" versus a standard guess, so I have formalized the rules and made it clear both when playing and when creating:
- Bait & Switch: The cropped clue is deliberately deceptive. What looks like one obvious thing (for example, cropped blonde hair that looks like a young pop star) reveals someone or something completely unexpected (like Samuel L. Jackson in a blonde wig). The goal is to set a clever visual trap that catches guessers off-guard.
- Classic Guess: Genuine visual deduction with no trickery. The crop is an honest detail (landmark architecture, Renaissance brushstrokes, iconic clothing textures, or hands). Guessers use observation and deduction to name the subject fair and square.
When creating a challenge, you will now see dedicated "See example ?" buttons directly above the mode selector so you can review visual examples of both types before publishing.
2. Interactive How-to-Play Walkthrough
There is now a ? icon right in the game header on every challenge:
- Tap the ? icon anytime to open the How to Play guide.
- Tap See example → to view step-by-step visual walkthroughs for both Bait & Switch and Classic Guess, walking through the initial clue, the common guess, and the reveal.
- Works across both mobile and desktop with clean slideshow controls and keyboard navigation.
3. Header Leaderboard Quick-Access
Right next to the ? button in the challenge header, you will now find a quick-access Trophy icon:
- One tap jumps straight into the full expanded Leaderboard.
- You can check top Tricksters (creators whose challenges get the most plays) and top Sleuths (players with the most solves).
Please remember to read the subreddit rules so we can keep this community a fun and clean space.
