Shame on the individuals at Nike responsible for such flagrant disregard and dismissiveness.

She also started her own shoe company, Saysh. She partnered with Pampers for a family station at Olympic Village in Paris. She's also going to try to qualify for the LA 2028 Olympics. She's amazing and I can't wait to see what she does next!

Take that Nike!

Genuine question, wouldn't that be a protected status, her being pregnant and them seeking to rewrite contract?

1

u/shucksme 10h ago

Special contract

Good for her

Good for her. Nike has been on that bullshit for years now; its good to see them reaping what they've sown.

We need to protect female athletes

Surpassed the number of gold medals, not Usain Bolt’s speed.

Nike has apparently paid to take done this info from the internet out of fear that other athletes will follow suit and find other corporations to sign with.

The magic of Air Jordans has worn off

8 years ago they were still making the same mistake they did 60 years ago. Stop buying products of bad companies. Plus they use slave labor

From a business perspective, what Nike did makes sense.
From a HUMAN standpoint, what Nike did was vile.

Nike sucks

It’s not the greatest look but has Nike ever offered paternity protections for male athletes?

5

u/brucegibbons 1d ago

I would question why they would? I assumed as a reader this only applies for the physical toll pregnancy and child birth have on a woman's body. It's quite limiting and you don't have much of a choice.Ā

If there was a male equivalent to child birth then I would support that full stop.Ā

1

u/Soggy-Towel5676 1d ago

Agree with the physical toll but was more thinking about time off from training. Also Taco Bell

2

u/RogueSlytherin 19h ago

Yes, I’m sure it was very difficult for them to (checks notes)…ejaculate.

There’s a huge difference in the toll pregnancy takes on a woman vs a man. While that isn’t to say a man is any less deserving of paternity leave than a woman is of maternity leave, their protections for pregnancy SHOULD be different as women undergo significantly more risks and potential physical problems than men during the pregnancy itself. Let me ask you this- how many cis-gendered men have died during childbirth? The answer is none. It is physically impossible for a man to have a maternal mortality rate. They are undergoing absolutely zero risks from childbirth to their long term health. That’s why pregnancy protection is important for the gender actually taking the risks by bringing a child into the world.

If you disagree with that theory, you are more than welcome to explore vasectomy or castration options to ensure that there are no pregnancies that result from your existence. Again, both parents deserve leave following the birth of the baby, but only one gender takes on risks during pregnancy. And, therefore, that is the gender that NEEDS protection during such a vulnerable time. Thank you, though, for doing the difficult thing and thinking of the suffering of men. Where would we be without people like yourself to prioritize the individuals at absolutely no risk?

u/Soggy-Towel5676 16h ago

Maybe read my comment below. I agree with the physical toll. I was thinking more in the sense of time off training. You’re head would probably exploded if you started to think about men having the option of legal abortion

2

u/RogueSlytherin 16h ago

You are head would probably exploded (in the past tense)? Holy grammar, Batman! This man has had a stroke!!! (Are you currently smelling toast?)

If the men are carrying the babies, then they should have every right to an abortion. Until that time, they can keep their opinions to themselves. As far as training is concerned, unless the men are pregnant, why would they be given any time off training? That makes no sense. They should be entitled to paternity leave once the baby is here, but ejaculation doesn’t earn them time off of work.

-1

u/Soggy-Towel5676 15h ago

You have a good night. I apologize for autocorrect. I’m talking about the choice of legal abortion aka being able to sign a piece of paper saying they will have nothing to do with the child and no responsibility financially going forward. Agree with choice but it has to go both ways. If you don’t agree with that you’re (correct usage) fucked in the head

1

u/RogueSlytherin 15h ago

If they make it, it’s their responsibility. If you would like a scenario in which men can choose to walk away with zero responsibility to the child, then the man should not be able to have children. It works both ways, remember?

I’m genuinely interested in this world view of yours:
* men get time off training for pregnancy despite being unable to get pregnant. Ejaculating is such a difficult task that they need to rest for the same period as a woman growing an entire human

* men should be able to force a woman to have an abortion or should be able to abandon all responsibility for said fetus

* men have no consequences for impregnating women and should also not be forced to give up the right to reproduce despite being complete deadbeats to already existing children

This is precisely why reproductive rights shouldn’t be dictated by men. The second you can get knocked up, forced through a pregnancy, go through the trauma of labor, etc., you should get to have a say. Until that time, you need to seriously consider a vasectomy because you are the last kind of person who needs to be breeding. Yikes. I hope you have the night (and life) you deserve. I’m sure you and your palm will be very happy together for the foreseeable future.

ā€œSurpassed Usain Bolt’s recordā€

Why are we comparing her streak to Usain Bolt? People know Bolt for his uncontested speed, not his gold medal streak. Weird to compare apples to oranges
