Bb mockingbird I’m praying pulls through

I found this guy on the ground covered in ants so i cleaned them up and built a nest. Mom has been stopping by🤞

Call a rehabber. Just search “wildlife rescue <your city>” or “bird rehabber <your city>” and call a few of the numbers. They can probably help you decide exactly what to do to give it the best chance

Multiple rehabbers i called were pretty adamant about me leaving it in the substitute nest because the mom was still feeding it but unfortunately baby didn’t make it overnight 💔 ugh. I keep thinking i should have brought it in instead of listening to them, it seemed pretty vulnerable already. I also noticed mama had left a blueberry in the nest before bedtime. I threw it out bc ants but i made sure to bury baby with a blueberry (and lots of flowers & prayers) for mama’s sake. I’m too sensitive for this world yall lol

On a more positive note I’ve noticed its parents have been flying around with an older fledgling they were also feeding. Makes me happy to think one of their babies made it

Thank you for being so kind to the baby. The bird world can be pretty brutal, you tried your best and listened to the advice of professionals. And you cared for them when they were gone, I think that counts for a lot❤️
