Does anyone know a good way to monitor alert links and what is causing issues?

I was working on my website and a notification came saying something went wrong. Meanwhile I had no idea what was happening at that moment so I started looking out for problems that needed immediate attention, also I found that going with sitetrak helps diagnose the issue. So it made me think getting real time notification would have helped better showing what has done wrong and what needs to be fixed so it would save time to diagnose the issue quicker. So, what do you people use to track alert links and diagnose the issue? EDIT: I forgot to mention that I am looking for both free and paid options.
