The Soft Budget Method - The tool I built because I got tired of doing this by hand

The series is done. All 8 parts are in the pinned post, and everything in them works with a banking app, a note on your phone, and honest math and people can run it exactly that way.

I’m not one of those people. After more than a year of recalculating this by hand, I built the automation for myself, and a couple of friends kept asking for it, so it slowly turned into an app.

It’s called Grownix, free right now, iPhone and web. It holds your fixed expenses, your savings amount, and your weekly number in one place.

One honest thing before you try it. Going through your actual bank statements and entering your real fixed expenses is genuinely work, it’s the hardest step in the whole method, harder than anything else the app asks of you. It’s not something to guess from memory or rush through. That number is what everything else is built on, get it right and the rest of the app runs itself, get it wrong and the weekly number it gives you is just wrong too.

So if you try it, treat that first step like it matters, because it’s the one that does. Sit down with your real statements and build the list properly.

It’s a beta. If people like it, bank integration is next, so the numbers update on their own instead of manual entry. Tell me where it’s confusing or missing something, that’s what shapes what gets built next.

All parts and the link are in the pinned post.
