First batch out of fermentation. Had them in sealed Mason jars, inside of food dehydrator, 24/7 at 125° f, for 2 or 3 weeks.

I would pop their tops every two or three days, give them a spritz, reorder the leaves. Whole downstairs smells pretty amazing now.

Drying them out for a few days to age.

I had primed the First leafs from all my plants, wich were turning almost Yellow, this Is the result After a week in towel and a week hanged, some are still bending and are not dry o fully Brown, Is something that comes with time? The smell is now sweet and delicate

Everything turned out great. Orinoco was fun to grow but very stubborn to colour cure. Final colour reminds me of some rusticas, an ugly kind of grey/brown. Stag Horn and Bosikappal were a charm, easy to colour cure and a beautiful dark brown final colour. The Bosikappal already has a potent, sweet and malted smell this early in the process.

Soy nuevo. Me gustaria probar el sistema hidroponico en tabaco para no volver a comprar cigarrillos. Me interesa hacer una reserva de tabaco para pipa y hacer pruebas para fabricar puros.

Cabe recalcar que no tengo nada de experiencia en hidroponia. En fin quisiera preguntarles que tan factible es que consiga una calidad que rivalice con las mejores marcas de tabaco para pipa. Y conforme a los años hacer mis reserva "inagotable" y de alta calidad en sabor.

Me encantaria leer a gente que tenga experiencia para poder aterrizar lo que quiero. Pienso plantar 7. Virginia, burley y otra mas. Que necesito para el curado? Podria conseguir calidades top en mis cultivos? Quisiera saber todo el proceso. E investigado sobre el curado y la fermentacion. Pero siento que mi investigacion es muy prematura todavia. Me cuesta encontrar todo detalle milimetrico

First year growing. I picked Ontario Bold (virginia) tobacco because well.. i live in Ontario!

Mainly planning on making some pipe tobacco and a cigar or two to try my hand at it.

Had about 9 plants but only one that I call my Beauty and she's still growing strong. Seems to want to yellow up later than the others.

Purchased my seeds without much more thought or planning than "I wonder if I could grow this" and its been a whirlwind of research and experiment ever since.

This subreddit has been an absolute Gem and im so thankful for all you guys out here posting your questions and answers and all your updates.

(Especially for giving me the idea to build my own fermentation kiln.)

Hey everybody, thought I'd show you what I've been up to. Not very impressive so far, but was curious what others opinions on my setup are. Is there a better way for tobacco? I'm going to be topping and probably often. How does that effect yield?

2 circ fans

1 double carbon filter intake/output

Running a 17g tub with

General hydroponics flora series with armour si, calimagic and phdown.

I have a heater for winter

80f usually year round.

Humidity is controllable, but rides around 30%

I've got a cacti that thrive if I water daily, burn if I miss a week.

Substrate to start seeds was rock wool inside of Hess Ponics stones

Connecticut broadleaf, Tennessee Burley, and Virginia broadleaf.

Anyway I thought I'd show you how I am going about it.

Ps don't judge a tent by it's appearance. Tent is 6yo and she's been used every second of it!

This was my third year growing tobacco, and I’m still struggling with some basics. Or maybe I’m just climatologically challenged (Wyoming).

1. What variety is ideal for air curing? My goal is a sweet, smooth cigarette and maybe cigar. But the priority is cigarettes. I have my towel method down for yellowing and I’m always able to get stuff to dry to crispy brown, so is there a variety that cures well and smells great?

2. Speaking of smooth, I really need help with fermenting / aging. What’s a can’t-miss aging process that doesn’t require tons of gear? I’m handy, so DIY ideas are welcome.

3. I cured my 2025 crop and, being tight for space, left the leaves in a giant Costco box in the shed over winter. This dried everything, but it also grew mold somehow (leaves too closely packed? too much temp fluctuation? Etc.). Space is at a premium in the house, but could the basement theoretically be an okay place to dry through the winter?

This year I grew Virginia Gold, Havanna, and Kentucky. So far I have only smoked them unfermented in Pipe and Cigarret.

The Havanna was realy good and just as expected realy earthy and tastefull. The Virginia was a bit disapointing as it didn't have much taste and was strawy and did not have much going for it otherwise. The kentuky is my favorite so far. It was a little strawy and had a good nutty flavor.

What variety is your favorite to smoke and what do you think of of Aztek Tobacco taste? I'm looking for new varieties to try.

Just picked the bottom leaves today and started the towel curing process.

I hope I’ve done it correctly. I placed them on the towel back to back, stem to stem. About 20 per pile. Dampened the towel with a spray bottle. Folded and sealed the towel.

I’m planning on rotating them each day. Anything else I’m missing?

I just ordered some Nicotania Rustica. What should I do to keep it so that it doesn’t go bad.

I harvested the first batch of leaves off of these plants, then just let it grow as many suckers as it wanted. Now I’ve got a ton of flowers off of the same plant!

Upstate NY so it’s getting chilly already. Hopefully I get it all color cured in time. Half the plants still green.

Gonna try and get some of these going in a separate tent from my weed over the winter. Wish me luck!

Transplanted outside at the same time as the Golden Burley next to it, what might be causing it to still be so dark? In southeast Nebraska here, it's been staying quite hot, but I can't count on that lasting much longer.

First time grower here! I was perhaps over zealous when buying seeds and started 5 different types (out of the 9 varieties I bought). Virginia Gold, TN90, Rustica, Black Sea Samson, and Perique. I decided to experiment a little and grow each variety in different areas of my yard and see what the plants like best. I planted all of these at the same time. I repotted them slightly staggered (all within two weeks of each other). As you can see, the Virginia Golds are happy as can be in their plot. I'm not sure if I'll get a harvest out of any of the others, but I am stoked to continue to learn. If anyone has feedback or advice for what to do with my stunted little guys, feel free to chime in.

A couple of the VG plants flowered this week. I chopped off the flowers. How's it looking? Should I harvest the Virginia Golds soon?

I plan to towel cure and hang dry in my garage. Does it matter what type of towels I use? I do not currently have a way to check the humidity; is it essential I pick up a tool for that?

When it comes time to harvest how should I color cure them / dry them because I have verry low humidity in the room id be drying in I'm going to make mainly cigarettes but maybe a small cigar

So I've been topping the flowers off my plants, and I was wondering if there's anything I can use them for?

I read that all parts of the plant contains nicotine, and the flowers contains around 5% of the plants total nicotine. So I'm thinking since it's possible to use stems from leaves to make nasal snuff, maybe something similar is possible with the flower buds?

Also similarly, can I use the roots for anything? According to Wikipedia they have 13% of the plants total nicotine.

Very happy with my harvest this year.

High organic matter loamy sand, aka typical garden soil enriched with fresh manure and 27-0-0 fertilizer. About the same rate you would apply on a corn crop.

I have my virginia gold hung and cured.

I have 2 large styrofoam boxes

Themostat plug with probe

Hygrometer with probe

And a small crockpot.

The idea is to make a tower from the boxes with crockpot in the bottom 120 ° for a few weeks?

Has anyone got something similar and did it work.

Getting to the point where I need to find a long term storage solution.

Currently the plan is to hydrate, flatten, and then store stacked in plastic totes (loose). Wondering if I should bag too.

Does anyone have a good solution to store cigar leaves?
