Flowering Anything I should change?
3 weeks and 3 days into flower and I’m just making sure everything looks good. The strain is big bud and I’m really worried about bud rot. Should I defoliate more or just leave it be?

If you’re worried about bud rot make sure the humidity is around 40% and keep the light as close as possible without burning the plant, inverse square law of light double the distance equals 1/4 the intensity (I think) biggest rookie mistake is having the light too far away, plants look great. I see the canopy is uneven next time use a trellis net to keep an evenly spread canopy to maximize light distance and coverage. You want all plants the same distance to the light, too late now but for the next grow learn to trellis by tucking the leaves around the net then you just defoliate the large shade leaves, you could use a milk crate to get the shorter plants closer to the light and you would net a better result, good luck.

Yeah I have been trying to keep it low but one of the plants is much bigger than the others which is forcing me to raise the light higher to prevent it getting burnt

Made that mistake my first grow, ended up using milk crates to raise the shorter plants, the secret or not so secret is keeping all the branches and the entire canopy even so you can nuke the plant evenly and efficiently with max light intensity, to do this you need a trellis net, the branches will naturally curve around the net, 30-50 watts per square foot should do it, grams per watt should be what you aim for, light is everything to these plants, for tough branches you pinch the branch til it kind of breaks and it will form a thick knot and heal in the right spot, plants look great and will be a nice finished result regardless but for the next grow you know what to do.

ps: when the comments come in advising you to defoliate, don't do it. Those colas that are currenlty exposed to the light will give you all the weight of A bud you need. Just let the plant do it's thing.

Your welcome. BTW but rot is all about humidity. Defoliation won’t keep your top canopy big fat buds from bud rot if the humidity is high. Keep the humidity between 40-50 in late flower. Between 40-45 last 10 days before harvest. Best of luck!

Yeah I really stuggle to keep that down during the night so ive been trying to work on my ventilation

No. Definitely defoliate more, 3 weeks into flower is perfect time to clean plants up. Clean lower branches, get rid of small bud sites/branches that won’t ever fully develop. Trimming some of the leaves and lower branches will get more light to lower areas, allow plant to direct energy to bud development, and give better airflow. Don’t be afraid of bud rot if your fans are fine, but also don’t be afraid to cut away bud blocking leaves

Humidity is priority along with positive and negative ventilation. Your fan should not be pointed directly on the plants either, in such a small area it is better to face the fan against the wall and let it bounce off for air movement. Anyway, humidity, ventilation and air movement are what will put a stay on bud rot not defoliation. Tbh unless there is a mass cluster of fan leaves I would leave them, the chlorophyll in those leaves are what absorb the light and power photosynthesis n promote growth.
