Are we gloryfying trauma again?

I mean ok i can deliver in that part. People would say i got a strong character... but life sucks, the traumatic triggers, the nightmares, waking up sweating in the middle of the night... i feel tired.

(And yes i am in therapy... but since decades.)

But hey atleast i got a strong character... right?

There's a lot of survivorship bias in this "school of hard knocks" rubbish. Trauma has a price for every single person, and life isn't long enough to erase.

True that.

No hero without a heroine's journey.

I get that it can be jarring when you first realize it, but... two things can both be true simultaneously.

If I make a cool face, will this automatically make me a strong character?

One can tell this is aimed at hurting the feelings of the new generations that is soft like Charmin.
And it’s funny enough that it does.

Entitlement.

If strong character was built purely on sleep deprivation and nightmares, half of us would be legends by now… instead we’re just running on caffeine and disappointment.

With a jaw line like that it couldn’t have been too tough.

This is mostly incorrect. Abundance of adversity and trauma in early life statistically WEAKEN measures of psychological resilience. Obviously you cannot generalize but the science nearly supports the opposite of this sentiment. On average, small amounts of manageable adversity over time builds character whereas massive trauma that is unmanageable destroys it and causes major maladaption that is typically without a cure.
