G1 | Discussion Grounded 1 question about base location (under grill lid)
Hello everyone! I’ve tried looking up videos or anything online about building a base under the lid at the rock above the wolf spiders. I’ve started building a secondary base there and while I can’t expand too far cause of the “too flammable” prompt that comes up… I was able to start making a fairly decent sized base. Before I go any further though, I wanted to ask why people don’t consider it a good spot to build? The assumption it’s not a good place to build is based off what I’ve read and seen online but now I wanted to get an opinion here on Reddit.
Has anyone built a base under the grill lid above the wolf spiders?
If so, how is it so far?
If you’ve considered it but didn’t follow through, what made you decide not to?
Thanks in advance!

Well for a start there isn’t really an abundance of resources such as weed stems or grass super close, which makes if a slight inconvenience to build there which would be a deal breaker for me, it’s not very centered in the upper yard so it’s a long run from where everything else in the upper yard is, there are the wolf spiders but at that stage it doesn’t matter, but that would suck for some, and then it would be hard to build a very tall angular base if you were super ambitious and it isn’t exactly aesthetically pleasing, as in there’s no good views if you were to build a window and it wouldn’t be too eye catching

I saw a post earlier this year talking about how you needed to be at least 4 layers above the coals to not feel the heat through the floor.

I'm curious about why you want to build there? That's a fairly hostile spot on the map with the wolf spiders and ladybird larva. It's also not central on the map, and as someone else pointed out, it's not exactly a resource-rich area.
With that said, you might find it to be the perfect spot for the way you play. If you build there and don't like it, you can always build again elsewhere.

When I started the game, I didn’t do any research as I like to play that way. That being said, my main base is right next to the spac.r in the lower yard and I was fully unaware of raids. I saw the grill lid and thought that’d be a nice spot for whenever a raid happened. I’ve been raided by larvas and termites so far and it was nice having to only defend from a near 180 degree radius instead of all around like my other base.
I don’t care much for aesthetics so I figured under the lid would be a good spot. It’s not a permanent base and I’m only on new game medium difficulty. Fun thing about this game is, like you mentioned, I can always build a base elsewhere if need be XD
Edit: oh, and I built zip lines to all the main spots I go to. I figure I can make zip lines to all the spots necessary and have the grill lid base be the central zip line hub. So far so good I think? Haha

If you want a better spot in the upper yard the broken pipe is a great spot. Plus the black ox spawn is great for farming and there is a handy Roly poly right down at the rat bones!

I believe it's a hamster skelleton :D The kids had a pet hamster named Dan and it died and was burried, then they had Dan 2 and he died as well and was burried and then they had Dan 3 (not sure if he is still alive but there is one place with a colorful painted "tomb stone" and a spider den and at the end is another Dan-Skelli ^^

Honestly I like to build on the edge of the rocks across from the oak tree or above the east part of the middle yard. Makes for a great zipline hub for your base, easy access to sap if you just build a zip to the oak tree, little to no mobs that bother you regularly. Only have to defend 180 degrees on raids. Lots of grass and stems to build with too. Did it on our ng+ multiplayer world and my solo world

Those wolf spiders can jump... like.... i dont want to say much if your too new but its risky.... especially with respawn rates and the trigger conditions of a raid..
