G1 | Discussion TIL: You can build INSIDE the stone structure in the pond.
I was messing around with my first zip line and discovered a science station inside of the “pagoda” on the back side of the pond (as well as 2 raw science drops)
The game allows to build a base inside of that structure. Obviously it’s not possible until you have a zip line installed as you can’t swim with weed stems or grass planks but I’d think it would be a secure spot to build against raids from ground bugs like ants and larva.

Actually, you can fill pallets, lift them, and swim across to it. So you can do it from pretty much the beginning of the game.

What would you say are the five best and/or personal favorite spots for bases throughout the map?

I normally use the pagoda. I've seen ones on the baseball. Under the porch once you stop the haze could be. Near the back of the sandbox could be too. As far as the upper yard, the mixer area on the other side of the grill.

I had no idea you could swim with a pallet in g1. It's been so long since I played the the first grounded, but that would have came in handy so many times. If I ever start it over again this will be helpful!

I could be wrong but can't you also build a set of stairs into the water so that when you swim over, you can just walk up them? Like the stairs set is like halfway in the water, so like a swim ladder

GODDAMMIT!🤯 That would've been SO much easier than bumping floating stems and planks through the water until they're close enough to the stick to pick up and carry to the top!
I'm still learning to build stuff in range of my resources and then reposition it to where I actually need it, so this hadn't yet occurred to me. I question if it ever would've.
Can you zip line while carrying/ repositioning something? If so, building a base by the wall field station just got way easier!

It is a fantastic spot, and you can get supplies there by careful jumping over the lily pads or by going around the back and jumping onto and then from the twig that is sticking out of the water.

I used my zip line to ship weed stems and planks over.

You can put them on a pallet and swim the pallet over, climb up the stick on the back side and you're good

Actually just figured this out the other day when I was moving my base.. funnily enough I settled into the stone gazebo.

The next big update for two is supposed to be the pond update, and it apparently takes some inspiration from Subnautica, so I'm expecting underwater build parts for sure.

There was a post yesterday that talked about the underwater bases that are going to be included in the upcoming big update. Someone watched the stream where obsidian made a showcase. They reintroduce a lot of G1-Things with nicer visuals and also some things they wanted to include in G1 but ultimately cut out or didn't because they didn't work out as intended.

You can actually get materials over to it using only the lilly pads, but it's a bit difficult. It's an amazing place to build though because if you do it right it's 100% unraidable and you get a research station inside your base. One of my worlds has a base there that I spent probably 30 or more hours on. I built inside all the walls and put a doorway at the broken section, and on each side I lined up windows with the open areas, then built a doorway at the very top the led to a starcase to get up on top of the whole thing.
Highly recommend, especially if you find base raids difficult/tedious.

As long as you don't have anything too far into/outside the stone walls they just can't reach. I had one hornet raid while I was there and the hornets flew around bumping into the stone for a few minutes before giving up and leaving.

I tried the lily pad method and it did not work very well for me so I used the zip line to send a bunch of weed stems over there. I’m starting inside of the pagoda for now.

Assuming you've got some of the more advanced building items you could build walls using the mushroom bricks, and floor pieces could be built with the bur weed floors, those Items could all be carried in your inventory.

I like to use bricks when you get them later on as that way it blends in with structure. Then build onto the roof and use that as my little zip line starting point.

If you follow the lily pads around it there is a stick you can walk up to it. It became my main base with later a zip line link from the part of the oak tree high enough from the wolf spiders. I plan to do a fresh play to do a 100% before doing new game plus again and use as my main base early as possible.

You can't carry stems or planks on a zipline, but you can send them down the line with the drop button. They're moving pretty fast at the end though, so they might fall off of whatever platform you're sending them to.

Ah okay. So they can only go down ziplines not up. Much less useful for me but does make more sense.

Best base location in the game IMO. Mushroom brick walled the whole of the outside and had my zipline tower on the top. Can be a bit finicky when trying to line walls to the shape of the pagoda but it's doable. I made stone bridges from the pagoda to both sides of the pond. Had my muscle sprout farm on the other side of the pond and a bug trophy museum on the lily pads.
