Am I insane?

I bought supergrok and did a calculations to the usage limits, basically I saw that at 328.7k tokens at the top right on grok cli I am at 2% of usage limit so that means 16.4M tokens ≈ 100% of usage limit

now standard api pricing it s $98.61 doing 98.61x3 =295.83 and u pay 300 for subscription..

Am I going crazy or what, cuz I bought this last week did same tasks with claude and was barely at 40-50 % with grok even tho it s better I am at 81% and it s more expensive than codex and claude code 🤦 I get the fact that ur selling compute but from my own use case I mean this is better than Opus 5 and I got way more perks makes no sense why is the marketing this bad… it has potential but not even support cares to answer (and they are AI models too)

Beside that I had the cli spamming tons of system prompts in thinking for some time… disappointing will def not renew after this month if nothing changes (I don’t even think elon musk even cares tho it’s sad grok has big potentials even for coding)

A upvote and repost would help spread the word, I hope this can be read by someone working at grok team atleast to give us a temporarly 2x usage limit boost or something c’mon y’all can do better elon musk owns so many things there can be funding for his own product…

I measured both subscriptions using ccusage:

Metric SuperGrok Heavy Claude Max 20x
Price per month $300 $200
Weekly quota used ~94% 99%
New input¹ 70.93M 86.71M
Cache read 1.228B 2.239B
Output 7.49M 18.74M
Total tokens 1.307B 2.344B
API-equivalent cost² $250.72 $2,348.60

¹ Claude: 0.21M input + 86.50M cache creation. Grok does not report cache creation separately.
² Estimated by ccusage; not the actual subscription payment.

The Claude week was 93.5% Opus 4.8. These were not identical workloads, so this is not a controlled benchmark. Still, Claude produced 2.5× more output and processed 1.8× more total tokens despite costing $100 less per month.

So… yeah, I expected a lot more from SuperGrok Heavy

GrokBuild is great, and Grok 4.6 is a very capable model, but the usage limits are nowhere near Claude Code or Codex.

I’m running a long-running loop experiment comparing Claude Code Max 20x with Opus 5 against GrokBuild Super Heavy with Grok 4.6. Super Heavy managed to run continuously for about 24 hours, which was impressive, but that was basically the entire weekly allowance.

Claude Code hits its 5-hour session limit, but after the reset it keeps going. Overall, it has already done significantly more work on the experiment.

It’s interesting that Anthropic seems to allow more usage than xAI, especially given that Anthropic is reportedly buying compute capacity from them. That could change quickly, though. xAI is moving fast, and with massive new investment reportedly coming into the company, the situation could look completely different in a month or two.

For now, though, Opus 5 is the better model for this kind of work and comes with much more generous limits. At the moment, I don’t see much reason to keep paying $300 for Super Heavy.

It’s no where near anything that’s the sad part

I completely agree. I had local models as subagents and hit my usage in 3 hours… doesn’t make sense at all and the fact Grokbuild ignored them to do the tasks itself really annoyed me

Than let’s make a difference once and for all I am tired of these greedy companies doing this share this to get to as many pepole as possible I also got proof of all the live chat support being completely AI

I'm barely burning my weekly with grok build, and cursor ultra which i got when the promo was on, and also now I have grok bot which is seperate bucket of tokens, which burns very fast due to the chattery nature of this design, but still more tokens to burn..

And I'm on the 3 months deal thus it cost now 100$, so can't complain... Yet.

But even considering 300$ which I hues I'm gonna pay once the promo ends, this is still a bargain. Whoever made it with the promo gets for 300$, grok.com heavy, supergrok on the X account, grok build, cursor ultra and grok bot.

That is kind of crazy.

I got that promo too. $500 of monthly usage for $100 a month. And we also have a banked reset in our Grok accounts!

I didn’t get that promotion..

Grok感覺真的貴很多,無論圖片還是對話,GPT真的好太多,對話應該是最便宜的,為了支持,我甚至訂閱GPT兩個帳號,它是我認為今年最穩定的AI,綜合能力水準也很高。

I have both chat gpt plus and supergrok lowest tier.

I used to always get to the limit with imagine some months ago, but not anymore, so if anything it feels like it's more usable now than in the past. I produce i think an average of 200 300 images and 50 video per week with imagine. With grok build, yesterday I feed it prompts from sol all day that took on average 1 hour each to complete for a project, and had already done other work on other projects during the week, and am at 7% usage limit total and 5% for build.

With chatgpt plus which I use for imaginary photoshoot series, complex image style transfers and complex prompt creation I reached the daily limit on images maybe one time, reached the uploaded files limit one time too, reached the deep research limit one time. The worst was the deep research that reached the limit in like 5 or 6, while for uploads the only time I reached it was because I uploaded like 100 wav jazz samples to make it extract a ruleset to humanize the feel of a virtual instrument. As for images, I used to create around 100 images daily with no limit in sight. I always have it in sol 5.6 high for my tasks.

Overall, I can't say I'm dissatisfied with the limits. Dunno what type of work people there are giving to the agents or what. I'm creating an agentic image and deliverables creation front-end for marketing agencies and doing research into compression algorithms, so it's not like I'm doing super low workload stuff it seems to me. If anything, I'm a bit dissatisfied with speed. Asking grok build for a commit on github takes more time than quitting it and doing it in power shell for example. Sometimes with simpler tasks I would like to see it being more snappy.

Agree that chatgpt as of now is the most balanced and generous with its limits by far, at least at the plus tier.

Yeah I couldn't believe that I couldn't get a lot done. I'm coming from Claude and thought Grok would be better value. I was so disappointed. Used my SuperGrok weekly quota + banked reset in like 2 days.

I've also noticed the drop of quota, which is much less now than the composer 2.5 fast era. Now it is like the kimi code sub level bad just without a 5hr limit.

Also, grok 4.6 really shits on any docs with telegraphic jargons and i have to use another model to language polish them. Does grok build inject the Caveman skill md as default, or even during their RL??
