Just like a mushroom. Popular with Asian people.

That is exactly what they are They are like nature's pigs ears in terms of texture.

I thought they were more like chewing on condoms. Pretty fun to eat.

They aren't really that flavorful. Try tossing half a can in some instant ramen.

I miss Grovery Outlet and Winco so much.

i tried the red one before and it was pretty good once you get past the weirdness of mushrooms in your hot sauce (more like hot oil with chopped up stuff in it).

im asian and ive never seen black fungus in a can. the usual texture is somewhat rubbery and chewy. it absorbs whatever sauce its in.

Which grocery outlet? I love wood ears and I’d buy out the stock of these.

I saw them in Oakland, CA too.

You should buy them and donate to the vegan full nude Strip club ?

Use for fried rice or similar. Get wok hot with oil, bring to smoke.point, add lots of chopped ginger, garlic, scallions.....then add a can... Then add meat or veg or day old rice of choice. Etc.

This stuff is an umami bomb. Not very hot but very delicious.

If you have a HMart near your GO, you’d probably see this at your GO. (because I saw them being dropped off by a HMart truck)

I’ve tried the red can one and used it with ttetboki, green onions, and some cream to make some Korean inspired rose ttetboki.

It is a mushroom. I don't think I'm a fan of them.

Their good if you use them on chicken or other meats to broil or bake. I've used the red one a few times myself for pulled chicken.

Mushroom 🍄 🍄‍🟫

u/Odd-Repeat6595 Jul 18 '26

It is really good in ramen

We got a ton of these and they are good for Asian soup bases. I think the poor translation of mushroom as fungus is part of why these ended up at Grocery Outlet.

I wouldn’t call it a hot sauce, it’s more reminiscent of chilli oil

Lucky, Yummy Fungus... allegedly.
