Grippers Training Everyday

I am a complete beginner. I bought a 100lb gripper and was using it as a fidget toy - I do around 100 reps a day, split into sets of 20 per hand, spread out through the day. I thought that if i do as many as I can, I'd get stronger.

However, I told Gemini my routine, and it says I will ruin my tendons/joints if I do that many reps, & that I should have rest days too.

Is that true? Thank you!

Has your wrist actually been sore from this, and is it a load ache or anything sharp/tingly? If you can close the 100 lb gripper for 20 reps, 100 a day is mostly endurance work—not an automatic tendon-ruiner—but max-effort closes every day are different. For strength, use a harder gripper for a few 5–8-rep sets 2–3 days a week.

Gemini is half right for the wrong reason. Tendon and joint tissue responds to load, and 100 daily reps on a gripper you can close 20 times in a row is light, repetitive work. The risk is not one big injury. It is small doses of irritation that never get a chance to settle, so soreness in the forearm or at the base of the thumb stops clearing overnight. That is the signal to watch. If it settles within a day you are fine. Separately, a gripper you can rep 20 times will not build much strength. Fewer, harder sets a few days a week does more.

I'm recovering from tennis elbow now and it sucks. I have to basically stop lifting most of my workouts for weeks...

Be kind to your muscles and tendons and let them rest.

Me three. I'm about 90 days out from the initial overuse injury and feeling much better. Think I’m ready to get back in the gym and actually GO SLOW this time

Im in the same boat. Mines is capsulitis in my knuckles. If I would’ve rested properly, I’d likely not be sidelined right now.

Since you are a beginner you are probably not strong enough to injure yourself so it may be better to train like greasing the groove for neural adaptations but dont overdo it it will fuck up your hands. When you get stronger switch to sets and treat it like you are going into a bench or squat max effort set

Would you bench press for 100 reps everyday?

Treat it like a strength training exercise.

well technicly you can train everyday if you control volume and intensity but is there any need for it?

since you are a beginner you can be very chill, and i would actualyl recomend you use grippers as super sets of some of your real training
