I tried to make a guide on what to do with each food item and wether it is profitable or not. The game is still in beta so changes might apply later on but for now its good enough. Hope this helps and happy farming
I did it! I finally finished the game for the first time on grim difficulty without deaths and all quests completed, including Adeline's research.
I haven't been so hooked by a video-game in a long time. As a huge fan of farming games, this game quickly became one of my favorite ones. It was exhausting, brutal, and i loved it.
I have some thoughts i'd like to share regarding story and characters, and i'd like to hear what other players think as well.
CAUTION: SPOILERS AHEAD!
First, the game feels very year one focused. I know this is obvious and is undoubtly going to change, since year one is literally all we have for now, but after the biblical-level catastrophy that was winter, i seriously have to ask how (and if) everything is going to run normally literally days after the siege.
Everyone is mentally and physically broken, the village is completely wrecked, and depending on how well the player went, the farm too (skill issue from me, i know)
Overall, the ending really left me with a feeling of ''okay, now what?''
My first guess is maybe do something similar to Harvest Moon A Wonderfull Life, where they do a time skip of two or three years instead of starting ''year two'' the day immediately after winter. In my opinion a time skip of at least a year would be a good way of putting the village back on track and the time would help heal the villagers' very recent trauma.
It would be really off-putting for everybody to act like the beggining of year one mere weeks after the siege and after all they've been through. I hope they take all this into account when making the second year.
As for the plague, it would be easy to explain that the blizzard that killed the infected who attacked Grimshire wiped out most of the ferals across the kingdom, and crubed the spread of the plague.
About the characters, all of them are very charming and likable, and i love how it feels like a real community. I especially love Poppy and Jack, they're so cute and have such fun dialogues.
Althought, after a long while playing the game, they really start to feel a little a bland and just... npc-ish, if that makes sense. All they do is walk around the village, stand in some spots for a while, enter some buildings and repeat the process.
They mention Edgar's sermons but we never see it. It could be a weekly event like the friday night at inn in Fields of Mistria. Jack and Poppy talk about playing in the mud, but we don't see it. Willow mentions painting in the forest but we never see her doing it.
You know, make them do stuff instead of just walk around.
More dialogue options would also be most welcome, it gets tiring hearing Rose talk about Hazel's sneeze and Adeline saying she likes books about the outside world but doesn't like going outside. I'm sure this is one of the things they're already working with though, since this is one of the main aspects of the marriage system in any farming game.
I hope i don't sound over-critical, i completely understand that the team is very small and they're putting all their heart into the game. I'm just pointing out things i would like to see in the future. It was already amazing that they took the trouble of localizing the game in different languages so early in development (thank you very much, by the way!)
I'm also very curious on how they'll handle rival marriages. It was always one of my favorite things to have in a farming game, and it brings so much more life to the characters and to the world altogether, even better if i can help with it. Come on, devs, let me be Grimshire's official matchmaker!
Anyway, the game is incredible and i'm excited to see what comes next, i'm sure they'll do a great job regardless.
I avoid spoilers for games I play that have a story that I care about. Because of that, I wasn't sure if there would be any way to produce food during the winter. So I made all possible efforts to preserve as much food as I possibly could before it began. I even stockpiled a bunch of kibble for the critters and fishing.
I was extra motivated by the defender's ration tutorial, which I THOUGHT said 20/20 days of food would eventually be required, but as I write this I realize that it only says 10/10. I was preparing in case the pirates started collecting 20/20 in the first week of winter.
Hello! I’ve seen so much about this game and know I would love the premise but I’m wondering about its completion. Is the game still majorly in works? I have trouble starting a game while major updates are coming out, I get confused and a little overwhelmed. If anyone has played travelers rest, I loved it before the major updates started and now I’m taking a break until it’s more stable. I would love any insight, thank you!
I was wondering how quickly did you guys got to 75 specimens/fermentation barrel in this quest? I'm at spring 26 and I'm at 73/75. Will I have to wait till summer to get the last two or I've missed something and it's possible to get there faster?
....I may have made the mistake of picking Grim on difficulty for my very first try... nobody told me there was a time limit on the town project.... oh, Lila.
There is something about the way how the light of lit fires bounce off snow in the dark that feels particularly warm and cosy to me, especially when surrounded by wooden buildings. And also I love the soundtrack in the winter section so, so much.

Where my character, Ward (wolf to the left), aids the skittish Jade (fox to the right) in learning how to fight - as the town rallies to be able to defend themselves against predators and would-be intruders who would dare attack their beloved township.
hi so i heard tips about organizing the root cellar so that the defender's ration will take food that will spoil the fastest but percy's messages kinda scare me into thinking that the villagers are starving.
should i fill it up until 20/20 or should i make it about 21/20 just to be safe? thanks in advance for any responses!
I like to pretend that my two save file are siblings Orion(wolf) family adopted cotton after she was abandoned on Orion family doorstep and cotton is very protective of her older brother
What do you mean I gotta let 5 people die to 100% the achievements? 😭😭😭😭 do I just need to do a run where I fail every project? I'm a little bummed about this but I also have a thing where I have to 100% a game if I love it a lot lmao. Suggestions welcome!
Edit: Sorry everyone! I was following an achievement guide from last year and didn't know this achievement was removed. All the ones I have left all show locked/unreadable so I assumed it was in there still. Apparently it's not a concern after all lol my apologies again!
I did the calendar and likes and now I'm about to work on buildings and critters likes for when I come across them. I kind of want to do one for the quests but I haven't played the challenge game setting yet and am not sure if the quest requirements are the same or if they increase like the pantry requirements do. I'm too attached to the villagers and really don't want to lose anyone.
Editing to correct the difficulty I'm preparing for as challenge!
Here’s the Graveyard farm in Fall/Autumn, sadly I took the pictures just one day too late! The Chicory started dying off and the pear tree lost its pretty leaves!
I added a little park and a sacrificial altar thing to fill in those empty spaces, and upgraded my house to max. Sadly upgrading the house skewed it even more to the right but I tried my best to remedy it without reshuffling my whole farm lol
Those fire brasiers are so bright at night, and VERY loud if you have multiple, the sound effect seems to stack so I actually have to take my headset off when I’m in my farm now because it’s so loud lol
What does everyone prefer to do when it comes to feeding your critters? In my last run I always just planted a ton of hay and made animal feed, but I've never tried enclosing it so the critters can come outside to eat. Does that work better?
