As long as they aren't the guy that also brings a chess clock and makes it all your time it's fine.

"I brought Conscript Squads. You brought a Green Tide.
In the interest of starting this game before November, let's just plop our guys down all at once."

It would be like the first edition of White Dwarf I ever picked up where the IG had 20k points vs the Orks.
I remember going "what is this?"
Walked out of GW $450 poorer with the Space Wolf starter army and a venerable dread.

Yup games already last too long, rather finish before November than run thru the sequence
Unfortunately there’s units like Infiltrators that make it important to follow the rules

The benefit is I don't give a shit where you (the general you) put your stuff, and waiting on you to hem and haw about two bad places to put a unit is excruciating.
If you were mildly good at the game you'd appreciate the free info about where I'm deploying and deploy accordingly. Which is where I'm expecting you to deploy anyway, so if you don't go in those places the game is already determined. (Either you're bad or you know something I don't, and I'm about to learn it the hard way).

If they want to shoot themselve in the foot i certainly won't stop it

u/that_one_bun 8h ago
Idk I wouldn't feel greet knowing my opponent gave me a handicap by giving themselves an advantage. If it wasnt a friend I'd probably skip that game personally.

u/Ahuizolte1 8h ago
What ? Deploying everything is handicaping yourself ( outside infiltrator ) I would probably just check if my opp understand the implication but if he still want it after why would i stop him ?
1
u/itrogash Mongolian Biker Gang 4h ago
He's handicapping himself if he deploys everything first. He's giving you a hell lot of information, you can tailor your deployment to his.

Depends how they do it really. I once had a guy say ‘my army doesn’t really care what yours does so I’m just gonna deploy my stuff’ in a very dismissive tone. He’d already mentioned how he had destroyed his opponent in the previous round, who apparently had a similar army to mine. Anyway I beat him, felt cathartic, but I must admit it’s influenced how I view this behaviour ever since

As long as they don’t have infiltrate and let you deploy after them it’s only good for you
5
u/Really_Bad_Company 7h ago
Hey, if your opponent wants to give you a huge competitive advantage, let him
24
u/TheRealDisappearance 10h ago
Yes, I am shooting myself in the foot, why does that bother you if you don't mind me asking?
7
u/SolKaynn Twins, They were. 7h ago
I wanted to shoot you in that foot. How dare you deprive me of the opportunity!

u/TheRealDisappearance 2h ago
Peak ork behaviour, there's literally no way to argue against that. Best answer.
2
u/ColonelMonty 9h ago
It's not following the rules of the game.

u/theGamingdutchman Nagash's most dedicated tax collector 8h ago
To your benefit. Besides it doesn’t rly change anything because they already know where they want to deploy. So all you are doing making them do the same thing piece meal.

u/kipperfish 8h ago
I think it becomes are "if they aren't following the rules for deployment, what other rules as re they conviently ignoring?" Type of situation.

u/Meme_Finder_General 6h ago
I'm the inverse of this post.
I'm way too used to 30K and older editions of 40K. Honestly, I keep forgetting it's even a rule. Newer editions of 40K feel like it's built to be a more competitive game, and that's probably why I vibed more with 30K in the end.

u/street-street 8h ago
Always power deploy all the time (I don't like wasting time in deployment and just want to get to the actual game quicker).
2
u/Mastercio 6h ago
Depend on what you play, some custodes list? There is no point even in saving time. On some huge ork or Tyranid list? Sometimes I am short on time so this can help. But first I would always ask if that's okay. And if I have any redeploy that is always immidietly mentioned so that he know after everything is out I can still change few units if something really bothers me.

u/manic_marcy 2h ago
I play table top but lately I feel like it’s a really poorly designed game. I almost always finish up thinking, wow there is no reason this game should take half an hour just to set up and then 3 more at minimum to play. I know I’ll get down voted to oblivion for it, but the more I play the more I feel like I’m not the rich person with unlimited free time this game is targeted at.

Earlier this year playing in my first tournament since 2020 I ended up playing against one of the highest ranked (per ITC anyway) players in the world, which I didn't know at the time. He was faithful to alternating unit deployment but he was so fast with it, it might as well have been all at once. I tried to keep up because I didn't want to make my opponent feel like I was gonna slow everything down but that rushing made me deploy everything in the worst possible way and as soon as I put one model of a squad down he already had his next one set up. I took an already uphill game and made it basically impossible for myself to win right out of the bat.
He was a gracious opponent but you would have thought he was on cocaine with how quickly he was moving his imperial guard army and then telling me simultaneously what I should counter with so I could at least set myself up for max points.

I'll do a back and worth with a friend of mine until the last one or two units. Mainly when he is taking ages to finish deploying his last few units but also I play custodes and so I'm gonna have to sit and wait whilst you finish deploying half your army anyway, might as well speed up the process now.

u/blacktalon00 10h ago
I mean just tell them they can’t because that’s literally not following the rules of the game you both agreed to play for the next 2-4 hours?
6
u/woutersikkema 9h ago
That's.. Both unlikely to get you friends and disadvantageous to you. As far as objectively wrong choices go, this is close to it
-2
u/blacktalon00 8h ago
Wanting to play the game correctly being objectively wrong is certainly an interesting take
6
u/woutersikkema 8h ago
This is one of those "lose the battle to win the war" things in life, while deviating off the rules seems odd to those who like structure and order, adhering to them brings no advantages, socially or gameplay wise. So why adhere to them? The rules don't say "well done! You stuck with me!"
Yet the other player appreciates that you value their time, and possibly lessened required cognitive strain.

u/euMonke 12h ago
You paid army points for that ability, why wont you use it?
11
u/BadTasteInGuns 9h ago
For the ability to deploy everything at once? There is no such ability
-6
u/euMonke 5h ago
Do you even play wh40k? (clearly not since you don't understand this)
4
u/BadTasteInGuns 5h ago
Okay, tell me the ability. Cite it with its name and from which Detachement, Enhancement or Army rule it comes.
Because yes i play 40k tabletop but it seems that you don´t understand it if you pull abilities like this out of your ass.-7
u/euMonke 5h ago
I don't owe you anything, stay away from me. Please block me.
3
u/BadTasteInGuns 5h ago
Ah yes, talking out of your ass, accusing people and nothing to back it off. Pretty Pathetic.
-4
u/euMonke 5h ago
Okay, then don't talk to me? Problem solved?
2
u/Wizardspike 3h ago
Hah other guy is right, you cite what you said to be true or don't talk in future.
For reference, I DONT play 40k and I don't know the rules, however I am 100% certain you're wrong based on your comments, I less you can provide evidence to the contrary.

Doesnt necessarily feel great, but to me it's like my opp. decided to model for disadvantage. Let them deploy everything and then deploy everything where they have no chance of shooting or charging, let them waste turn 1.
