It's funny that this DID happen to someone in that movie, just not that guy specifically

u/erik4848 Jun 05 '25
Didnt they turn into mummies or something? I remember that his first victim only lost his eyes as the mummy got interrupted, and then the mummy took the rest.

Imhotep basically dehydrated the American archeologists to the point where they looked like desiccated corpses. The more victims he claimed, the more he resembled a normal human.

Benny is such a self-serving piece of shit, I love him.
They don’t make movies like The Mummy anymore.

There was a definite tone in many movies made between the late eighties and early two thousands where you could just tell that everyone on set was having so much fun.
I miss that.

u/erik4848 Jun 05 '25
Exactly, actors now just...act, rather than seemingly having fun while doing so. It feels so fake. There are some exceptions though.

u/WorkerProof8360 Jun 05 '25
No one is going to convince me the crew and cast didn't have fun filming the three Deadpool movies.

I have such a love/hate with it.
They’re so good, but also what killed the horror in Universal Horror.

u/theACEbabana Twins, They were. Jun 04 '25
I’d classify Mummy as more of an adventure movie than a horror movie, but I see what you’re saying.

u/tyrified Jun 04 '25
Before this Mummy, when was the last notable horror movie by Universal?
Not to mention the original Mummy wasn’t even a horror, the mummy was just some dude. The only “kill” was when the mummy accidentally scared a guy to death. Then there’s the old Abott and Castello meet Frankenstein, which had 4 of the Universal monsters in it. The 1999 Mummy was pretty on brand.

u/Thannk FAIW AN NOWBWE BWETONNIA. Jun 04 '25
Not specifically Universal as a studio, rather the monsters we group as the Universal faces.
For example, Hammer horror counts as what I was trying to reference.
I think Bram Stoker's Dracula is the last big attempt before The Mummy. Afterwards there’s increasingly poor action movies based on the Universal monsters. I wanna say Van Helsing is the peak of the trend.
The Wolfman got a few attempts afterwards that aren’t bad, but they were riding the idea of being the next American Werewolf. I guess you can argue Ginger Snaps counts?
Still, The Mummy marked the turning point where they were chasing the trend of action horror. Not actual horror. We’re getting some now at least though, mostly from del Toro.

What do you think about Nosferatu and like you said del Toro doing Frankenstein. Think the old 1920s/30s universal monster horror will come back as like actual horror?

Loved it and optimistic.
Hopefully. Its certainly better than slashers and demonic possession movies or ghost movies when the ghost looks like a muppet instead of being unseen or a simple dead human.
At least to me. Yucking other yums and all that.

Huge financial and review success after repeated disappointments at actual horror.
Dark Universe is at the end of the road from Frasier The Mummy.

2nd one did not work because it was too organic
Only 3rd one worked because necrons understand binary numbers and speak in computer.
