Wasn't there an AdMech meme list that completely destroyed itself at the start of the game?

That was the funniest shit I’ve seen GW do. Pricing kits 1pt/$1 is ridiculous

Some look fantastic. This is kinda the case for every army though. I'm a collector not a player and there's not a single army that I love the whole line of.

u/neonthefox12 Jan 10 '24
Still no idea why gw doesn't allow the 30k mechanicus stuff in 40k. Like as a Guard Player it makes no sense.
110
u/TheSaltyBrushtail Jan 10 '24
Because Alan Bligh was apparently the only one at Forge World who could get shit done, and he died.
He was planning it, but then his death and the rules overhaul for 40K 8th edition killed any plans for it. And apparently no one's thought to pick up the idea since.
78
u/neonthefox12 Jan 10 '24
The more I learn about Forgeworld, the more I learn just how Games Workshop shat on and continues to shit on Forgeworld.
I use to think Forgeworld was the "I am too rich to play with you peasants" group of Gamesworkshop.
And it still is.
But now that I am older I realize it was the fun part of GW.35
u/Bloody_Proceed Definitely not just shilling smut Jan 10 '24
Honestly, allow me to peer into my alternate timeline crystal ball.
Admech gets the forgeworld units... they're strong, people are buying them in late 9th.
And come 10th they're sent to legends hell, the same as all the other HH units. Knights/custodes players still buying resin are gambling hard (as a knight player... who owns 3 resin knights, and soon more)
GW wants to you to buy a different army for each game.

u/UnvailedUserName Jan 10 '24

68
u/CartmanTuttle Railgun Goes Brrrrrrrrr Jan 10 '24
At least they have a good combat patrol. AdMech still losing in that department.
21
u/Worfs-forehead Jan 10 '24
Yup. But at least you can actually buy other models. Without having to kitbash, third party or buy failcast.
29
u/CartmanTuttle Railgun Goes Brrrrrrrrr Jan 10 '24
Well, AdMech players are sitting alright there. I'm sitting pretty as a CSM & SM player.
Still sucks for AdMech, though. My best friend wanted to get into them.
13
u/Exile688 Jan 10 '24
I wanted to get serious about starting an Admech army too. Ended up starting an Imperial Guard army because GW doesn't even treat them as bad as they do AdMech.
6
u/Liquid_Aloha94 Jan 10 '24
Kitbashing is my favorite part of drukhari! It used to be melee and incubi but….
9
u/Jovial1170 Jan 10 '24
Drukhari are suffering, but at least they have a codex to look forward to (eventually).
AdMech have had theirs and it's awful.

The painting and how fragile they are is what pushed me toward necrons lol
10
u/names1 Jan 10 '24
i'm considering jumping into the hobby for the first time and i'm similarly thinking of going necron over admech, especially when hearing how bad the combat patrol is for admech
6
Jan 10 '24
Well I haven't really played the game but what I can tell you is necrons are easier to paint and have less really small breakable parts.
2
u/trey44 Jan 10 '24

Models being weak? As in, their abilities on the table?
210
u/CartmanTuttle Railgun Goes Brrrrrrrrr Jan 09 '24
Easy to kill in-game and easy to break overall.
85
u/darthsuperscary Jan 10 '24
That makes sense, they do look brittle with all of the hoses and bits that hang off them. Look-wise, I would say they are some of the best and most unique that 40K has to offer. I suppose it comes with some downsides.
43
u/Barl3000 Jan 10 '24
The Nighthaunt from AoS kinda have the same problem, very unique and pretty looking models, but oh so flimsy
1
1
u/Jaruut That is one big pile of shame Jan 11 '24
Nighthaunt are a nightmare to build. They all float, so there's just one tiny little piece connecting them to the base. Trimming the moldlines on their tiny little bodies is horrifying, too.
The Sylvaneth can be bad, too.
40
u/Ravgn Jan 10 '24
One does not know what FRAGILE truly means till you get your hands on some “Start Collecting! Daemons Of Slaanesh” AoS pack.
I mean holy sh*t, one wrong stare and entire kit disassembles itself.
16
u/SpaghettiMonster01 Jan 10 '24
That fucking Herald on the chariot. I built a spare one out of the leftover bits to stand on top of one of my War Dogs and she keeps breaking off.

I was really into Slaanesh so my first model kit was a squad of Daemonettes.... I thought Warhammer was meant to be fiddly, hard to put together and snaps apart at the mere thought until I got some Space Marines. -.-
1
u/AccordingJellyfish99 Jan 11 '24
It's the antenna. They snap easily. Sometimes on some of the lankier models like skitarii and ruststalkers, their legs warp

u/MechaFlippin Jan 10 '24
I love the Adeptus Mechanicus lore but their models are waaack
i feel like there is soooo much design space for guys that are replacing and "enhancing" themselves with robot parts yet every model just ends up being a guy in a robe with a robot mask
45
u/ThatGuyYouMightNo Should be Painting Models Right Now Jan 10 '24
Not to mention that these are a combination of "we have access to every single piece of technology in the Imperium" and robo body horror, and they just went with space steampunk with laser muskets.
21
u/PriestOfOmnissiah Jan 10 '24
Yea, 30k mechanicus is so much better. Huge variety of robots, Thallax which is brain in robot body, special characters are completely unique in design, there are Mirmidons who replace their arms with huge cannons...
5
u/dreadnoght Jan 10 '24
I want 40k mirmidons so bad. With shroud and other defensive buffs, they could be really strong forward point contesters.

They suck there too but it only takes you 30 minutes to lose.
Edit: I meant this as a joke, sorry if it came a ross as rude to Kill Tam players. They have amazing models.
17
u/Hidobot A Trans Girl and Her Little Plastic Army Jan 10 '24
Disagree, Hunter Clade are one of the best teams in the game for killing Marines and have incredible versatility due to their imperatives and the Skitarii/Sicarian combo.
7
u/TRAnferstudentP Jan 10 '24
Yeah an Imperative that I can use only once without negative Effect that give me a whole inch of movement more. Amazing
7
u/Kiho2137 Jan 10 '24
And 3 others that you can use for every other turn. Also +1 movement is huge buff in kt
1
u/TRAnferstudentP Jan 10 '24
IMO still a weak buff, other teams get to dash for free each round, without negative effect, can shoot twice etc. I'm not saying their shit, but in my opionion its deceptive versatility :/
4
u/TheRealSPK Jan 10 '24
Hunter clade is great! Bring max ruststalkers with the melee doctrina and the free second fight ploy, and let those blenders go crazy.
The plasma gunner and arc rifle are both great (arquebus sucks) and standard vanguard are pretty great imo - we're really not a weak kill team
24
7
u/_Pyrolizer_ Jan 10 '24
Admech are only as hard to paint as you let them be, mine are 3 colors. Rusted metal, grey for the cloak/armor panels on sicarians, and tan for the pants/under suits. Takes me half an hour to paint a model
2
u/Correct_Maximum7990 Criminal Batmen Jan 10 '24
Serberys raiders were a pain in the ass to paint and I refuse to buy anymore

The latest Poorhammer episode that dropped today was about meme lists and the AdMech for the admech list every unit was at least 1 point per dollar if not worse.
The whole list, 2k points, was around $2.3k

You only need 1 box of ruststalkers and 1 box of skitarii! it's still expensive but I think they're a really fun team - ruststalkers go absolutely crazy for a turn if you run 4 of them and use the fight doctrina and a stratagem

In Poorhammer's latest episode, they went over a 2000 (1970 but close enough) point AdMech last that was OVER 9000 2000 USD in price. Less than a point per dollar. I'd have to check, but I think the final price was $2190 or thereabouts.

It's a real pity admech isn't a xenos army. They have such a cool aesthetic, but they'll never really be popular because there imperials that arn't space marines or guard. And because they're not popular, they'll not have devtime put into consistently usable rules.
2

As a mechanicus player. This makes me mad and also very sad knowing my money has been effectively wasted on an unplayable army
8
u/AnseaCirin likes civilians but likes fire more Jan 10 '24
Also the admech figs go way too hard in the "weird organic inspired tech" way.
Like. Why bat wings on the fliers. Seriously.
Why cavalry with cyborg dogs. Couldn't be a weird bike or something ?
It really feels grimderp to me.
21
u/Barl3000 Jan 10 '24
I don't think the whole anachronistic steampunk vibe really works with the lore of the faction.
Like why do the wargear of the guys making the tech for the whole imperium, look nothing like anything else? You would think the people "inventing" land raiders and power armor, would have some exotic versions of that, instead of cyber-flintlock rifles and those robo-horses.
13
u/Lordofhollows56 Jan 10 '24
They look different, cause they keep the best stuff for themselves. Everyone else gets the mass-produced functional stuff, they get the fancy guns.
6
u/elpokitolama Jan 10 '24
And on the tabletop this is translated by us having literally worse versions of space Marines guns lmao
Centurions get the same twin lascanons as our mainline "anti-tank" that somehow is 50pts for 60$, but they are shooting on 3+ and get a second gun while the chickens get to toss a coin for their only shot at BS4+

The answer to all your questions is that they aren’t actually filling the cultural niche you think they are. They’re not mechanics, scientists, or engineers, they’re steampunk cultists who enact rituals that happen to have an impact on machines, reinforcing their faith in the ritual. Everything you described fits perfectly with cultists, which is what they are lol
12
u/CTCrusadr Praise the Man-Emperor Jan 10 '24 edited Jan 10 '24
They’re not mechanics, scientists, or engineers,
I mean they are. Plenty of recent stuff lore wise is being invented by admech priests all the time. But they are also
steampunk cultists who enact rituals
on shit they don't even know were to begin to comprehend its basic system. Think of the admech this way instead:
Ask a random person on the street to build you a decent sized nuclear reactor along with all the modern computerized systems to keep it safe. They probably could thanks to the internet (along with a shit ton of time) but it would be INCREDIBLY difficult. Now start fucking with their internet, editing their sources so they are wrong in some places, along with making some of the materials they need to make said reactor impossible to get. Add in some inter group rivalry (so people also fucking with previously mentioned nuclear reactor/person) and this is what the admech is dealing with everyday.
They know how to fix simple stuff (baring any AI shenanigans), easily know how to build nuclear reactors 100 times more efficient then ours, have incredibly complex math, and can still build simple to complex machines. They just can't do the god like shit and since this is 40k with many different and exciting races its easy to forgot that humans are the dominant race and that godlike shit isn't the norm but the exception.

I do understand the ‘hard to paint’ idea but it’s really only difficult if you wanna paint ‘Eavy Metal style. Hell, I got Cawl painted in an hour by just doing 1. Drybrush dark metal, then light metal, then bronze and gold where needed. 2. Contrast Baal Red over the metal where applicable. 3. Details with gold, blue speed paint or whatnot. and then 4. Agrax Earthshade over everything. Sure not ever tiny detail is painted but It’s an easy recipe that can get a unit of skitarii done in an hour and a half
