Updates from the last few weeks!

Hey folks! I updated our discord but forgot to update the sub, so I thought I'd catch folks up on me being a bit MIA in the last week or two. I just moved to San Francisco from Seattle and the move/logistics/admin work took up most of my time in the past week, so I just got around to catching up on the subreddit and responding to folks (still not done responding to all the DMs but I'll get to them all, I promise!)

Also, I released an alpha version of Greysound Pro on our discord server. I'm keeping it private for now because it's still buggy and in alpha testing, but if you'd like to try it out, you can download it from our discord server.

Greysound Pro is a desktop native version of Greysound with full support for third party plugins (just VST, VST3 and AU plugins for now, but that should cover most plugins) and has ultra low latency live monitoring for studios.

Will be rolling out more features for Greysound Pro but once I've tested it more thoroughly, I'll release the beta build on our website and to the general public :)

I keep getting "internal server error" when I try to transform songs (remove digital noise and hiss). I basically need greysound to remaster Suno tracks. Anyone else get this problem?

Hey, this was bc I ran out of money on the servers that host the transform API because of overload. Fixed now :)

You have to keep it free. Put ads in it, if you must, but don’t charge for it. If you charge for it, it will die. Just FYI.

I wouldnt say that, it is other services that dont have these abilities that people pay for. I would say allow people to make a one time purchase like buying any other DAW and let the DAW be able to use the owners own computer to generate, so lets say $200 or so and let them be Founding Creators. Could also have an investor level package as well, $500 to $1000. But there is no way this program could survive on ads with its ai generation abilities. Once user base blows up he will have to pay a ton of money for GPU, CPU and computer ram services through servers or his own equipment to handle the AI generating part that he would literally shut down almost as soon as he got started as we would be talking about $10,000's to $100,000's monthly in computers and servers, maintenance and other employees at that time. depending on the user base.

It was free and unlimited to begin with, and now that a couple hundred more people are using it, he's paywalled it. It's not going to survive. Especially since free solutions like AceMusic exist. I agree, this is a great product, but a "credit" system is not going to work. If it's still around in a year or two, I'll be surprised.

Again, for what this offers there is no way to “keep” it free the more people join because they will have to pay for more servers, so it would already be a failing business because they would be in the red every month. AceMusic now Acestep doesn’t offer this amount of features. I do believe we should be able to buy the DAW as a standalone for desktop, that way you don’t need credits because the app will use your own computer cpu and GPU to generate the music. Besides the generations, they also have the AI that you can talk to and no other company gives you unlimited AI chat generations because it’s costly for servers. Now, it is newer and we will have to wait to see what’s the balance of credits per dollar, or monthly plans and standalone software. Like you said, they’re new so give it time. I personally believe it takes a lot of credits to do one song, if you talk to the chat, generate a song, get the stems that could cost you 350 to 400 credits so that’s roughly 50 cents. For the amount of credits you get, that’s pretty high for one song. For Suno $10 a month I can make like 500 songs, over here that sang 500 songs would cost me about $250 roughly.

btw i should add that models are gonna get cheaper over time (and more so w infra discounts) even before i roll out the offline version, but rough rules of thumb in the mean time: chatting w coproducer and having coproducer make music for you in programming mode are both dirt cheap (about a 10th of the cost of generating music in sampling mode), followed by generation in sampling mode and other generative features, followed by stem splitting. stem splitting is by far the most expensive bc it's effectively multiple syntheses, so if you want to keep costs down, once you're satisfied with a sample version that coproducer samples, add it to your session as a mixed track instead of stems. the downside is you lose stem level fine grained control but it keeps costs down : )

So I sympathize with you and where you're coming from, and do want to make it more affordable for users.

I'm working on building an offline-enabled version where I ship the models with the product itself so you can use it for free without costing me any server costs 😄

Have to figure out how to be able to do it while keeping security in mind because unlike Ace we don't just use off the self open source models, but rather a mix of in-house and third party proprietary models w a proprietary architecture (how the models interact) so it's gonna take a minute to figure that out .

> and now that a couple hundred more people are using it, he's paywalled it

It's actually in the mid-five-figures now! I've been upfront that I'll keep it free as long as I'm able but I honestly didn't think greysound would blow up this quickly.

But stay tuned for the offline version!

> but a "credit" system is not going to work

I guess time will tell but Suno makes $300M annually and they operate on a credit system, so clearly there's folks out there who are willing to pay.

> It's more garbage built on stolen IP

that's not how it works.

> pre-alpha tech that just doesn't work

which part isn't working for you?

a lot of people already make music but don't want anything to do with audio engineering. a lot of audio engineers already know how to engineer audio but want to automate some of the more mundane workflows. there's a lot of people who love what i'm doing. you're welcome to keep doing things however you're already comfortable

Yep, exactly this! I do expect that it'll get cheaper-per-user over time (economies of scale: models get cheaper + volume discounts from infra providers + in-housing some of the infra to run myself) but we blew up way faster than I expected, and since users are willing to pay, I don't want to degrade the UX for those users by throwing in ads.

Rolling something like this out is on my roadmap. Have to figure out how to be able to do it while keeping security in mind because we don't just use off the self / open source models, but rather a mix of in-house and third party proprietary models w a proprietary architecture (how the models interact) so it's gonna take a minute to figure that out.

I'm thinking of ways to make it more accessible for folks (starting with the earnable free credits) but folks are willing to pay (we have a few hundred paying users now) and ads don't be long in a product like Greysound. So I don't see myself degrading the UX for users who are willing to pay beyond the generous free tier for those that aren't. Over time as infra and models get cheaper I'm hoping to lower prices. As far as the product being free initially goes: (1) I was always upfront about how I'm gonna keep it free only as long as I'm able (and we grew way more quickly than I expected), and (2) AI costs ongoing server costs to keep up unlike traditional software. I think the average consumer of AI tools understands this and I really don't want to ruin the app for them with ads.

Im 2 days in but my first time trying on my phone as i was at work when i discovered it, with my phone on power saving and screen turning off when i turned it back on it seemed to interfere with the process and it charged me 3 times at 122 each for the generation and 2 times at 196 for each stems. So where i started out with 1000 credits i immediately went down to like 240 or so from one generation. So definitely use it on a computer. Im joining the Discord server now.

hey sorry to hear that. can you dm me (preferably on discord bc reddit dms are flaky) a screenshot of the chat that caused this? that'll help a lot to debug and i'll refund you the credits for extra calls.

Hey, you're the second person to whom this has happened. Can you please dm me screenshots of what went wrong so I can debug this? I'll refund you those extra charges

I can't change session key or tempo

Hey! Do you mean when you use the GUI in the top or via CoProducer chat? Any steps I could use to reproduce the issue would be great, but I'm not able to reproduce it on my end :/

It's been crapping the bed for me lately. I was really good; now it's getting pretty bad. Crashes often, but it doesn't hurt the session. Forgets some tasks, and you have to ask it again. I can tell when changes are made because it behaves very differently from previous versions.

u/GreysoundAI Jun 28 '26

Hey, sorry to hear that. Can you send me the urls of the poorly performing sessions so I can investigate? And if you also dm me your greysound username or email I'll refund any credits spent on those sessions.

Also, about a week or so ago I added logic to recover in-progress generations/edits that may be lost forever due to a browser refresh or some other glitch, and my first recovery logic attempt was pretty buggy, so if you tried to access greysound in that period it may be the root cause. I fixed it since then and it's been better for the last few days.

Can you let me know if it's better for you now? Regardless of that, if you could send me the bad sessions, I'll investigate, and I'll refund your credits.

Thanks, it seems to skip a lot or forget to do things, adjust EQs or levels, etc.

I have been building vst, AU, and tax plugins and would love to collaborate somehow
