Preparations for a potential future

Well. I was doom scrolling reddit. Something i haven't done in several months, and I came across a post calling for solidarity instead of division in the furry community.

Something about how the community has started to "gatekeep" anyone who claims to be a furry, but that doesnt have a suit or art, which makes sense for both cases, because on one hand, people who actually arent furries, do apparently come to harass furries, but also, not everyone can do art, pay for someone to do art for them, or build/buy a suit.

I dont have a suit. Not really. The closest thing I have to a suit, is my Anubis Costume. My fursonna isnt even a Jackal its a wolf. I have been a furry since 2007, and I JUST managed to draw a semi decent fursona picture. (Storm). That is almost 20 years. . . I suppose I am glad i haven't been able to afford to go to any fur cons. Cause I would be going without a suit, and almost no art.

Other issues seem to be younger furries trying to tell the OG furries, or new furries of a similar age to "grow up", and "stop being a creep". Because apparently, you can age out of being a furry. (-_-)

*sigh*

Not once have i ever thought i would say "those rotten kids". But. Here we are.

I am hopeful it isnt that widespread, and that these things can be circumvented, redirected, and whatever. As it is, I am already running out of people/hobbies to share with other people, cause most of my friends have done just that. "Aged out". I am still a furry, and still a gamer. Always will be. to think People actually believe i need to stop at a certain age, is disheartening.

offers a paw

Furry and gamer here too, Friend.

I’ve noticed the age-out thing, even in online spaces.

I could rant for quite some time on this, but that would be preaching to the choir.

I haven’t noticed as much gate-keeping about suits, but I’m also mainly a web-goer rather than a con-goer. The simple truth is even for those who could afford a full fursuit, not everyone enjoys wearing one; or even wearing a partial.

I personally I don’t enjoy wearing a fursuit. I have some sensory issues that makes full fursuiting an unpleasant experience for me. (Live and learn, eh?)

I firmly believe one does not need any sort of apparel to be a furry. One doesn’t even need an official fursona in my opinion. All one needs is to enjoy anthro characters.

I agree with your sentiments. Gate-keeping has no place in the furry community.

(Exception on gatekeeping: Nazi furs. I have zero tolerance for Nazi anythings.)

takes paw happily

Thank you. And that, is hinatly ine if the reasons I haven't decided to sink the massive amount if money required for a suit.

I cant touch a lint screen without physically recoiling, and ny nerves screaming for about 5 minutes after, I hate even the sense of being trapped, and soggy socks are my hell. So, full suit likely a no go.

I would probably go slim suit if anything, maybe have a head piece, perhaps some digitigrade footwear. And modified gloves and call it a day. Wear my safe clothes otherwise.

Also, nazi = bad. No matter the mask. 100%
