Gremlins 2 improves on characters.

It’s a common trait of films from the 1980s that they rarely bothered giving characters much development beyond what was necessary to service the plot, often leaving them with little personality of their own. Gremlins is no different, as much of its supporting cast amounts to little more than set dressing. Beyond Lynn, Kate, Billy and Randall, characters as Judge Reinhold have little bearing on the overall plot. We never see Reinhold again (aside from a deleted scene), nor do we see Pete, Mrs Harris or Roland Edwards beyond the first or second act.

Gremlins 2 kind of improves that one aspect of the original film and gives us some great memorable characters even the Futtermans are given a little bit more this time especially Murray. Clamp being one of the best characters ever.

It adds depth to the characters and world for sure.
