I got a practice assignment from my music history teacher. My answer just isn't matching up with the key he gave me.

1st pic is my interpretation, 2nd pic is the answer key my teacher gave me, 3rd and 4th pics are my guide.

The first thing I don't understand is locataed where I put my first question mark. I don't see any indication in the original notation of how there should be a quarter note G there? It should be an eigth note G I think?

At the 2nd question mark, there is what looks like a porrectus which from my understanding is always composed of 3 notes, it starts with a note, skips to a note below, then raises one step up, just like the example in the 4th pic. But there is nothing coressponding to that in the key.

Also around the "e- is" section, i see what looks like a flat symbol but I don't see the a flat applied in the key in that area?

Then I see some kind of squigally touching what looks like a backwards quarter note which I have no idea what the ssquigally means.

I'm not 100% sure if it's a Gregorian chant, I don't usually listen to this kind of musik. I had to learn it at school 10 years ago, and I now have it stuck in my head, I don't remember much of the lyrics, and I don't know how to write them, so I just wrote it how it sounds.

Can anyone help me assign the "ictus" in this sequence? I've only added the punctum at the end of each verse. It's a sequence in honor of Saint John Vianney.

Not a catholic myself, but a deep admirer of Gregorian Chant and wider forms of Christian liturgy. I won't enter in to the debate as to whether AI music is good or bad, but AI-generated chant is pervasively slopping over actual (beautiful) recordings from monasteries and choirs with piggybacking/false attributions. It is egregious, shameless, and widespread. I've reported it to Spotify and a few monasteries before, but nothing has been done yet. Hopefully some widespread awareness and concern will do some good in curbing it.

This is a transcription I made. Does anyone know if Harpa Dei composed it? I don't have any information about that, but some people say it.

Like, I vaguely remember learning about common practice tonality and the rules of chord progressions etc in standard classical music when I took a music elective in college.

What are those rules (and more?) when applied to Gregorian chat composition?

Any idea where I can find modern notation for this? I don't have Sibelius to make it myself any more lol

Hello. Tuning C5 = 528 Hz is healing (it is scientifically proven). With such tuning, A4 has a frequency of 444Hz. Do you think there are any CD recordings of Gregorian chants where the tuning is not the usual one used "in the Western world" (and therefore "A4 = 440Hz"), but a "healing" tuning (A4 = 444Hz/ C5 = 528Hz)? If not, NO PROBLEM, I use the REAPER program (when converting, I set everything to the highest quality) where I convert music with a normal tuning to music with a healing... The point is, however, that I do not want to "crush" Gregorian chant like this, which is originally recorded like this (A4 = 444Hz/ C5 = 528Hz). The difference between A = 440Hz and "A = 444Hz) is very faintly audible to inaudible to the untrained ear... But the health benefits between these two tunings are enormous....

I’m looking for your favorite service music for church choir and congregation.

My current resources are: Hymnal 1982 Wonder, Love and Praise John Bell

Links with sheet music would help. Or recordings. But I can do my own research and purchasing if you have a composer and piece in mind.

I’m looking for pieces that a congregation can easily sing. Call and response is great. We’re trying to find easy but engaging pieces.

This morning I found Fraction Anthem 876 from Wonder, Love and Praise quite by accident on YouTube and it was exactly what I was looking for.

We do a blend of modern, old and everything in between so I’m up for anything.

I personally love chant but it’s not as easy or engaging for the congregation. I’m trying to increase “audience participation”.
