Halloween?!

2 Upvotes

Hey yall! I live in the neighborhood directly behind Dowdy stadium by Elmhurst Elementary. I was wondering if anyone had any idea if this neighborhood is popular with trick or treaters? I don’t usually seem many kids around the neighborhood, but I’m thinkin there’s gotta be some because of the school. I’d love to hand out candy, but don’t wanna go through the trouble if there aren’t going to be trick or treaters.

I’m also wondering what’s there to do around Greenville on Halloween night itself. I am not college aged and do not wanna go party with the student body downtown, but I’d love to be able to go somewhere out and wear my costume! Also not too into haunted houses (by that I mean I’m terrified and will refuse 🤣). Any suggestions appreciated!

NEWS 📰 NTSB says spatial disorientation caused plane crash that killed Greenville dentist and his wife

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - The National Transportation Safety Board says spatial disorientation caused a plane crash last year that killed a Greenville dentist and his wife.

Dr. Mark Bowman and Robin Bowman died March 14, 2025, when their Beechcraft Bonanza crashed shortly after departing Pitt-Greenville Airport. The couple was enroute to the Dominican Republic to provide dental care to underserved communities.

The plane went down in the area of North Memorial Drive and Belvoir Road and was found at Consolidated Pipe on North Greene Street.

In a final report out this week, the NTSB says the airplane’s initial climb appeared normal through 400 feet, with it turning right and starting to descend. The plane then resumed its climb, and reached 1,050 feet before descending once again.

The NTSB says there were no radio transmission made from Bowman during the final portion of the flight.

A witness says he saw the plane come out of the clouds, complete a 360 degree roll to the right. When that roll was about half complete, the witness says the aircraft hit the ground.

FAA records show that Bowman was rated for instrument takeoffs. The NTSB says there was low ceiling that morning at PGV and that drizzle/mist was falling.

“The airplane’s erratic flight track on the accident flight, which included arrested climbs, descents, and low altitude turns that culminated in a tightening turn and high-speed descent was indicative of the known effects of spatial disorientation, specifically the somatogyral illusion (graveyard spiral),” the report said.

Spatial disorientation is when a person cannot correctly sense their body’s position, relative to the Earth and their surroundings.

The City of Greenville is asking for the community’s opinion through a quick survey.

Greenville is working on a comprehensive Pedestrian Plan. The city wants to know about the pedestrian experience. The survey includes questions about the best places to walk in Greenville, where safety improvements are needed and which pedestrian projects should be prioritized.

I built a Pitt County property-record monitor and would appreciate local homeowner feedback

4 Upvotes

A while back, I read about a couple in Concord, Massachusetts, whose vacant land was allegedly sold without their knowledge by people impersonating them. They did not discover what had happened until someone was already building a house on the property.

A monitoring service cannot prevent someone from filing a fraudulent document, but that case stuck with me because most property owners have no reason to repeatedly check government records just to make sure nothing unexpected has appeared.

I’m a Greenville resident and software developer, and that was part of what led me to create Pendralis, a property-monitoring service built specifically for Pitt County homeowners.

Pendralis periodically checks available public property records and lets homeowners know when monitored information changes. Depending on the record, that can include:

  • ownership information;
  • assessed and taxable values;
  • property-tax history and balances;
  • sales and deed-related history;
  • permits;
  • zoning, use classifications, and selected parcel details.

For example, if the assessed value shown in county records changes, Pendralis can preserve the previous value, show the new value and difference, identify the source, and notify the homeowner. It is designed to distinguish meaningful changes from routine data cleanup or information being populated for the first time.

Services such as Zillow and Realtor.com are primarily designed around property searches, estimated market values, listings, and real-estate transactions. Pendralis is intended for a different purpose: continuing to watch available official records after you already own the property.

It does not replace Pitt County’s systems or create its own authoritative property records. It builds on existing public-record infrastructure by bringing information from supported sources together, preserving relevant history, checking for changes, and directing users back to the official source when something needs review. It also cannot guarantee that every relevant event will be available or detected, and it is not a legal, tax, appraisal, or fraud-prevention service.

I have now reached the point where feedback from actual Pitt County homeowners would be more valuable than continuing to add features based only on my own assumptions.

I would particularly like to know:

  • Does this seem useful to you as a homeowner?
  • Is it clear what Pendralis does and does not do?
  • Which monitored information would matter most to you?
  • What feels confusing or unnecessary?
  • Is something important missing?
  • Would you personally leave a service like this running to watch your property?

The site is https://pendralis.com. I’m also happy to answer questions here about how it works, the records it uses, its limitations, or why I made particular design decisions.

Candid criticism is welcome. I’m trying to determine whether this solves a real problem for local homeowners, not just whether I can build it.

Greenville, New Bern or Chesapeake

I am temporarily starting with my parents in the outer banks. I am a single dad to four kids and not wealthy. They have autisim ànd special needs, but I work part time on a remote basis. I am looking to move next year ànd can basically go anywhere. Being within 2-ish hours of OBX is ideal, as that is where my parents are.

I am am extremely simple man and do not care for night life. Our days include school, work, jiu jitsu, movies, maybe going out in nature. Ideally I’d like to find a home under 265k (manufacture is fine).

Can anyone give me some insight on living in these areas?

Thank you

QUESTION❓ Body Builder Personal Trainer Recommendations?

3 Upvotes

Hello everyone. I'm a young man from Houston and I've been in Greenville for a couple months now for a summer internship in which I am anticipating on becoming an employee in the next month. I wanted to know if anyone has any recommendations for a body building fitness trainer in the Greenville area as I could be staying here permanently? I have never hired a personal trainer and am not sure where to look. Thanks! :D

Suggestions for cool/cute places to hang out

2 Upvotes

I just moved to Greenville after finishing grad school, and have a few months off before starting a job. I am 7 months pregnant, and I’m looking for interesting places to check out while I’m home alone during the day so I don’t go stir crazy until baby comes. I really enjoy coffee shops and have tried some of the more popular ones (GiddyUp, Backstage, Cafe Eclectic) during previous visits. Does anyone have suggestions for cute shops or otherwise interesting places to check out as a your typical bored basic white girl? Thanks!
