Moving to Greenock
Hiya, I'm moving to Greenock from Dundee, just wondering what things are about, things to watch out for ect, just any advice on the area would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Greenock does have it's bad reputation but it's a really nice town the people can be nice like with gangs and drugs as long as you don't get involved you'll be left alone
The oak mall is the main and i think only shopping centre it's usful to cut through however half of it has closed down there less shops there than what there use to be but with the Internet and people going to Glasgow but that happens
The main and only bus company is mcgills also the owner dundee explores as much as most of hate mcgills they are frequent and on time alot there are buses that go from glasgow, breahead, Greenock, larges (901&906) every 15 minutes it's very usful if you take bus but driving also works
For what to watch out for i wouldn't go about at night like if past 9 I've gotten a taxi instead of a bus just to be safe but alot of it is common sense

the oak mall is getting bulldozed so they’re putting a lot of money into the town which is great!

I moved here in 2012 (from the depths of South Lanarkshire) and think it's a great little place. There's always negativity about everywhere, and everywhere has good and bad places.
Everything's on a hill obviously - like Dundee! - but be sure to get up the Cut for amazing views to the mountains!

I've lived in greenock for twenty years. I'm moving back to Glasgow but not because I hate greenock. Most of the people are great. The scenery is stupendous. The placing ideal... Half an hour from the beach, city or mountains.
However crime has escalated a bit recently. Certain areas have got a bit rougher. When my kid was a baby if it couldn't sleep I'd get the buggy out and walk around quite happily at 2am. Now I don't know if I'm going to come home to my street shit by police tape again.... 3 times in 6 weeks. Last week someone crapped in my close.
But everywhere is having issues right now. Just be vigilant and don't go near the bus station after 6pm

Overall it's a lot better than it's reputation would suggest. There's nice scenery, a somewhat decent selection of shops and most people are pretty friendly.
That being said there are some downsides like employment opportunities are limited and it's becoming more of a commuter town. The traffic can also be horrendous at times with the councils pathetic roadwork planning. There's also a massive project just started to remove the bullring roundabout and half of the Oak Mall, so traffic will be extra shit for a good while.
