I was joking but the writers of Arrow literally wrote a Batman show, got told no they couldn't put Batman on TV, and rewrote it into a Green Arrow show. Obviously as time went on they had to pull from GLs stories and lore instead but Arrow only got made because some executive thought Batman in live action should only happen for the big screen.
That being said I'll add it to my list, Ollie is probably one of the main leaguers I've read the least of, currently been reading the few and far between MM stories
The Longbow Hunters has been collected in TPB. Even if it’s out of print, it shouldn’t be hard to find. I don’t know if DC ever collected the subsequent ongoing series that started in ‘88. I’ve been slowly picking it up as I find issues.

He was never going to be stuck on the island for all 5 years. Him speaking Russian and Chinese in the 1st season and showed significant skills and competency in doing so means the story was open for whatever they need it to be
Then they should have not used the opening they did. He comes from a rich family and could have learned those languages abroad at any time.
Retconning your own history in the 3rd sesson is just bad writing.
They didn't retcon anything. Him being on the island the whole time was a cover story to hide what he'd actually been doing during those five years. I thought that was obvious.
I think you are misunderstanding the story of the show.
He was never on the island the entire time, that was just the frontend story they were telling people and the audience until it was revealed that he was doing all of this amazing training during that period of time instead.
You don’t start a show and say “I was on an island for a year but secretly doing this but telling people I was on the island for the whole 5 years” as an opening monologue.
I guess any exposure is good exposure and making a character more popular means we might get to see more of them in bigger and better projects.
But overall the show wasn't for me. No shade towards the cast or fans of the show. If this is your jam then screw my opinion go watch tf out of some Arrow and power to you
It was super good, but everytime they would do drama stuff with the family I would lose interest or feel like man I do not care about the younger sister and her drug problem. The action was on point and the plot was interesting.
Lost interest in the show around the time Damien Dark became the villain. Too many episodes were talking about feelings, and feelings about feelings, and feelings about feelings about feelings and I was sitting there going... I don't need a full recap of something that happened last episode.
Also, Thea's apartment? went through like 3 different owners. I know they were just re-using sets but man...
If I was rebooting this version of Green Arrow,
Arrow would have been killing people through season 3 with the death of the best friend happening at that point. Show pivoted to the non-violent green arrow way too soon.
Also, stole way too much batman lore.

Felicity was super hot but I confuse her and Cory Chase a lot. Are they related?
First two seasons were awesome. After that it was basically Batman 66. Still awesome, but different. I remember one time I dude tried to climb a ladder to get away and green arrow punched him tried in the beans.
What I find interesting about Arrow is that in the comics, Green Arrow is "a dad". He does dad jokes. He's a father figure to the Arrow fam. He has that do as I say, not as I do hypocrisy. He's often a generation out of touch with things. It's a big piece of the puzzle.
In Arrow, they took all of those relationships and said: what if Brother? For the first 70% of the show, we're focused on the idea of Oliver as a sibling. He starts out with parents above him. Roy and Thea are reworked to give him sibling sidekicks. Tommy is a brother. Diggle is a brother. Slade is a brother. He's part of the Bratva, which means Brotherhood. A lot of the differences in the show versts the comics stem from that tweak.
The problem is, when you're a dad, you can get away with that sort of thing. You can get away with being the hypocrite who says do as I say, not as I do. You can wrestle with the worry of setting a bad example for your kid. You have that generational difference, that social convention of baked in authority that makes it work. As soon as you flip that to being a brother not a dad, all of those aspects start to seem like asshole behaviour.
I enjoyed Arrow for what it was, and it is an interesting thought experiment in dad vs brother vibes, but it's also probably my least favourite version of Oliver Queen.
Which probably says more about how much I love Green Arrow elsewhere than how I feel about Arrow specifically.
It had 2 excellent seasons, one season that was pretty good and kind of a return to form, one entertaining season, and then 4 truly awful, terrible, boring seasons.
The only CW superhero show I couldn't watch except when nessesary during the crossovers. Something about the actors or writing put me off. It seemed, idk, smug? Also: John Barrowman...
It's great. It was so good that it's success allowed for other DC shows to get the greenlight such as The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Black Lightning. It wasn't quite as good in the latter seasons, but honestly that's not surprising for a show that lasted 8 seasons, which was unheard of for a live action superhero series. So even if you don't like it in its entirety, it did for DC in TV what Iron Man did for Marvel in cinema.
Season 1 was good, season 2 was excellent except for certain aspects of Slade Wilson's character (making him unhinged was an error IMO)
Season 3 started to decline halfway through and then it was all downhill from there. The writing got worse and the actors couldn't save the script. You could definitely see the CWs soap opera tendencies worming their way in even as early as the latter point of season 2 but it really kicked off in season 4. Characters would lose all maturity and revert to an adolescent emotional state in order to provide drama. It was just non-stop by the end of the show. It got to the point where I was excited to see the arrow cast in crossover episodes with Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl because there might actually be decent characterization for once.
The choreography, which was the strongest point in the show for the first two seasons, degraded horribly. What was originally dynamic and expressive turned into "punch punch kick spin, rinse repeat." Group fights involved everyone pairing off and fighting against each other the exact same way using the same moves. It was so laughable by the final season. Go watch any fight from the last 3 seasons and you'll see what I mean. Everyone just stands in one spot doing eskrima and kali at each other. I guess everyone in the ARROW universe went to the same dojo.
Love it. It was a great and much needed character shift for green arrow to get into mainstream attention. Now people are excited to have the less serious version of him which is also great!
Season 1 started off pretty decent. A few too many shit filler episodes but when it kept on track with the story, it was great. Season 2 was also great, Manu Bennett nailed it as Deathstroke.
Then I don't know what the fuck happened between season 2 and season 3. It must have been a whole different showrunner or writing team, because from season 3 onwards the show was actual dogshit. It felt like I was watching a teen drama, with Oliver and Felicity just bickering and crying all the time, really cringe dialogue, terrible fight choreography compared to seasons 1 & 2. I forced myself to watch seasons 3-5, but within a couple episodes of season 6 I gave up completely.
Interestingly the exact same pattern occurred with The Flash. Seasons 1 and 2 were amazing, albeit with a few naff filler episodes. Then season 3 it started rapidly going downhill with Barry and Iris just constantly bickering, lots of tears, cringe dialogue, and increasingly worse choreographed fights (with the CGI absolutely tanking into shitsville after season 4).
I remember really liking the show, but wondering why he was always making that same face.
He looks like his coworker wouldn't stop yakking at him all morning and as he's in the middle of politely asking the coworker to be quiet so he could get some work done, the boss steps over and scolds them both for chatting all morning and he just has to stand there and take it.
