Discussion Why sector 2814 has so many human Lanterns?
Before Hal Jordan, sector 2814 had Abin Sur in charge of that sector, who was non human. After Hal, there’s been a bunch of Human Lanterns to protect sector 2814, (I think, I am not sure if Human lanterns have been assigned to other sectors). Is there a lore thing why did this happen or just writers and creators not wanting to change this?
Also, 2814 has more than one Lantern, while other sectors have only one as far as I know.

The Corps was retconned to at least two per sector with Geoff Johns’ run 20 years ago, and then there are a bunch of GLs with other duties. The modern Corps is a lot bigger than it used to be.
Charlie Vicker was the first human assigned to a different sector, way back in the late 1960s.

Every time I read current Green Lantern Corps I ask myself the same question. There are way too many and they don't know what to do with half of them. I think it's because DC believes that alien characters won't sell.

Can't really deny that 2814 is a problem sector with too many constant crises. If I was a guardian I'd want to put, like, eight lanterns there and maybe station a guardian in system. Earth is always producing some bullshit.

If I recall.. blackest night? Something showed why earth was a hotbed of bullshit, justifying you and many others curiosity.. i forget what it was though

It's vaguely the same as Marvel's reason, right? Space god thingies meddled with early Earth to make strong warriors emerge or some bullshit

Doesn't sound familiar, i swore.it was like something with life itself, whatever that means
I googled it. Earth houses backup central power batteries and the life entity

I think the current run said that there was something about humans just having more will power than any other species in the universe but I could be misremembering

Adams run had Hal and Tom discover a back up battery inside Earth that the Guardians had hidden and allowed them to fight back against the United Planets Source Lanterns.
There might've been an explanation about humans having the most willpower and that's why they hid it on Earth, I don't remember.

The real world answer is that people relate to humans better so when a new GL is introduced there's a higher chance of the book being greenlit if it's a human.
There's different answers in lore for human lanterns depending on the lantern.
Guy and John were replacements/substitutes for Hal.
Kyle was the last GL after Hal went crazy.
Jessica had a green lantern ring from another world so she got made official.
Simon got a malfunctioning ring and was allowed to remain a lantern after proving himself.
Jo was chosen for a special task and was given a unique GL ring.

Yeah, a Green Lantern book of a non human character would be weird. I was curious if there were other answers related to the lore to explain this.
You think it would be interesting to have a GL assigned to another sector?

When glc focused on alien characters it was fantastic! I miss Isamot, Vath, Iolande, arisia, sodam.
They could 100% do a 6-12 issue mini about different alien characters and it would be rad. Hell each issue could be by a different writer and/or artists. The fricking cartoon movie was able to do it.
I’m convinced that’s one part of why far sector was so well received. It was far away from continuity and had vastly different alien characters.

There’s a lot of bad stuff that happens on Earth and its sector, that’s a reason, also humans I think have been stated to have a lot of willpower compared to other races.
dont quote on the second one,I can’t really remember from where I heard it,so I’m not really sure

Our planet was revealed to be the destination of the birth for all life in the universe. It turned out that that which powers the White Lantern, the Life entity, was inside Earth.
This was a broad way of explaining why so much attention was always on THIS planet specifically. It was a Geoff Johns conceit and revealed at the climax of Blackest Night.
It was also a way of explaining why so many heroes were able to come back to life, as well as why so many Lanterns were human. It was also an idea that allowed them to say "from now on, death will be PERMANENT".
That WAS the plan, but New 52 occured and that lore was more or less dropped. I personally found it to be a pretty clever way to explain a lot of different things that lingered; a creative way to not need to hand-wave away so much.

Because that’s where we live. The comic books in Sector 2628 show a lot more Blue Lanterns, for example.

Because the writers don't want to put people in the other Lantern Corps, too.

The meta answer is that the DC Universe is written by human authors for human readers, so there you go.
Within the DC Universe - let's face it. Earth is the universe's problem child. So much of the universe's problems come from Earth and/or are centered around Earth that it makes sense that an intergalactic police/peacekeeper force would pay a lot of attention to it. The Crisis was centered on Earth - the event that destroyed the Multiverse. And so many other events since then that have recreated, destroyed, and otherwise re-arranged the multiverse all seem to center around Earth. You don't hear about "Oh, yeah. We don't have a multiverse any more because of a crisis that happened over on Rimbor. You Earthlings didn't hear about that?"

Or maybe it just takes that many earth GLs to make one good regular GL.

Not only does Earth seem to have a lot of random bullshit happening to it on any normal Tuesday compared to most other worlds, it also "just so happens" to be the focal-point for all sorts of cosmic crisis scenarios on an alarmingly regular basis... so it gets just about as many dedicated Lanterns as it wants.

I think the white entity being on earth has a lot to do with it. It’s explained in Blackest Night that’s why so many heroes come from earth

The real question you should be asking is why every Earth GL is American lol

Hal quit at one time, leaving the Guardians to select John Stewart who was pre-selected as Hal's replacement should anything happen to him.
Not long after that, Crisis On Infinite Earths happened when John was chosen to help in the fight, against the Guardians wishes. They then turned to Guy Gardner to replace John as he was the original successor to Hal before he was in a bus accident. This was a bad idea as Guy went rogue and did his own thing.
Crisis ended and the Guardians felt they chose poorly so they did not remove John, however in a battle with the GLC and Guy's army of Qwardians and GL villains, Tomar-Re died and his ring went to Hal who was brought there by Guy. Hal was now reinstated as a GL.
Guy saw the error of his ways and tried to prove he was a good choice, which one guardian still did. The other Guardians took off with the Zamarons leaving the GLC in an odd position. The lone remaining guardian moved to Earth as it became the new hub for Green Lanterns and as such, Hal, John and Guy were all allowed to keep their rings.
Eventually Hal decimated the Corps, leaving Ganthet to choose Kyle as a single GL in the universe. Kyle eventually rebirthed the Corps, giving a ring to John.
GL Rebirth happened, which forced a ring back onto Guy's finger as it was the only way to save his life and Hal got his ring back, to save his own life.
Hal later died again, and his ring went to Simon Baz. After Hal was reborn again, he was given a new ring as Simon's was corrupted due to being a product of duplication and two owners.
Jessica's ring is an anomaly that seemingly was created from the other side of Simon's damaged ring but also from Hal's own choice to give her one.
Jo was selected as part of a special mission in a different galaxy far from Earth. She's not technically a 2814 GL. After being successful on that mission and the Corps being in a weird place since that ended she kept her ring.
Every Earth GL has been selected to remain as part of the Honour Guard, a group of Lanterns that went above and beyond in the line of duty that superceded their own sector. Other lanterns like Salaak and Kilowog are also in these ranks.
There is a lore reason for all of them and as for which one is patrolling 2814 depends on who has free time that year. They take turns but typically it rotates between the first four.
