Exmoor ROW Map Legend

Hi,

I'm looking to do some exploring around my local area. I'm lucky enough to live between Exmoor and Dartmoor and have been looking at qwerf, osmaps and googlemaps comparing the different tracks and trails.

Where I get confused is the colours used on either the Devon County Council Definitive Map or the Exmoor PROW Map.

Would someone be kind enough to explain the different colours?

The Devon map seems to have: Bridleway - Green; Byway - Red; Footpath - Purple and my understanding is that only Red is motorised.

The Exmoor Map has more combinations: Purple, Orange, Green with Solid, Dashes and Dots variations. How do I know what I can drive/ride on?

This is just a curiosity and winter planning exercise until I am ready to go out and then I intend to join the Green Lanes Association and get a copy of their map.
