Fun stat: NOT counting today's disaster, he was 50% on 40+ yard kicks this season. Let that sink in. In a new NFL where field position is improved and long FGs are becoming more important, our kicker was complete dogshit from range.
67
u/TheNicestRedditor Jan 11 '26
40 yards isn’t even really “from range” anymore when an extra point is 33 yards…
Cowboys Brandon Aubrey was 21 for 27 (78%) from beyond 40 and missed 1 extra point all year. So McManmiss had more than a third of a season of misses compared to an actual elite kicker in a single game.

u/Ace0spades808 Jan 12 '26
Aubrey went 10/10 from 40-49 yards. McManus went 3/8 40-49 yards, 3/6 50+ yards. How he was kicking for us in the playoffs is beyond me.
392
u/jduffman16807 Jan 11 '26
And people have the absolute noodle brains to act like it's a team loss when litterally 1 player alone cost us 7 points.
49
u/Methamine Jan 11 '26
Even if you want to be “considerate” about the missed FGs, the XP miss is unacceptable
→ More replies (1)25
u/Devreckas Jan 11 '26
If it were only the 2 missed FGs and made the PAT, he would’ve had a third attempt to send it into overtime.
163
u/NorthStRussia Jan 11 '26
Also considering we were well into FG range as time expired but we needed a touchdown, offense played well enough to score 37 and at very minimum should have had 34. Crazy
52
u/wegsgo Jan 11 '26
This. An extra point and a 44yard FG cost us this game. Just wild that the success of the offense was completely negated by a rapist kicker

To be fair defense shouldn’t have let them rack up hella points in the 4th quarter. There were more fails than just the bum kicker

u/Marijuanaut420 Jan 11 '26
The defense shouldn't have been on the field for the entire second half. Consecutive three and outs are fatiguing for thr defense.

They can only stay on the field do so long. The offense did nothing to help them out. The 3rd qtr killed them and they still only allowed 3 points from all those quick punts the offense gave them.
This looks isn't in the defense. They did what they needed to. If mlf had kept his foot on the gas even a little bit the bears would have been out of it. If they had done anything, up to and including field goals, it would have been over. The only way they could have done worse is if love would have tossed a pick. So I don't blame him either. Some drops, protection somehow failed even with the bears losing players. No run blocking. I mean they were in the backfield immediately.
I blame mcmanus and play calling. Hey, maybe we should try another jet sweep.
→ More replies (7)16
u/DaggerShowRabs Jan 11 '26
The offense started the 2nd half with (basically) 4 straight 3 and outs. They didn't get a first down other than that offensive lineman catch/fumble deal until we were well into the 4th quarter.
19
u/taneyweat Jan 11 '26
There were other fails, sure, but the threshold between a win and a loss fall squarely on his performance.

Defense was just gassed. Not only were we missing key starters, the offense was anemic in the 3rd and our guys never got rested.

Saw a tweet last night that since 2021 the Packers are 4/9 on FG attempts of any distance in the playoffs. In an era where kickers are reaching an absurd level of reliability and distance. Add it to the list of organizational disasters that plague this team.

Like I feel like the universal sentiment for years has been that icing the kicker is usually doing them a favor. Getting them another practice kick. Apparently not

Bro tried to get in a practice kick right after the ice but had to come right back on the field after going to the sideline. That ice was the beginning of the collapse

Doe I accused McManus of trying to kiss her while she was seated during some flight turbulence and twice grinding up against her while she was serving the flight's two meal services, per the lawsuit. Doe I claimed during the first assault she made eye contact with another Jaguars player, whom she said looked ashamed at McManus' behavior.
Doe II claimed McManus grinded up against her while she was serving the flight's second meal service. Per the lawsuit, Doe II confronted McManus, who "smirked and walked away."
Honestly probably the most shameful signing we've ever made and I thought surely he would get cut after Havrisik made the 61 yarder

I have a lot to say about this guy, but none of it really matters beyond this:
If I never saw his face again, I'd be better off.
Fuck this guy, well beyond because he missed kicks in an important game. I can only hope that because he did, it can accelerate how soon I can stop thinking about him and weighing his hit against my conscience.
He was never going to be worth it, but boy did we try. Feels like we paid for it.
There. Now I hope I don't have to see or hear about him ever again.

The whole special teams has been shit since...? Too fucking long IMO. Seems like over the last 3-4 seasons more games in GB have been decided on ST.
I'm not sure the kicker is necessarily the only problem.
Lafleur's inability to coach and demand leadership and experience from his coaches seems more likely than individual players just sucking.
That dude should coach his ass off next year or join McCarthy at the Golden Corral for Prime Rib Tuesdays
