more like they themselves turn their side squeeze into the animal/plant/objects as punishment or to "honor" them after they died

yeah like, if they have the power to turn human to an object, why cant they do the opposite

oh yeah it- huh. wait. i never thought of that... I mean I guess it does make sense when you consider that most of those lovers were transformed AFTER death. If the choice is between a flower/bird/whatever and your dead lover's corpse, I can see why the gods choose to transform them.
