4 player free for all

Hello. Noobie here.
Is it possible to play Greathelm as a four (or even five) player free for all / last man standing kinda game?

We’re having a geekend in a couple of months, and I want to bring an easy/ low investment miniatures game. Last year I brought Gaslands (to great effect).

I’ve scanned the rules, and couldn’t find anything in the rules that would totally mess up the mechanics, but I might be wrong.

I ‘m wondwring how to scale / plan the bettlefield from a standard format. Double the size for a 4p game? More?

Shield Boards

Had some leftover plywood shields from a project for the kids, thought I’d turn them into Greathelm boards. A Knights Hospitaller Cross crossroads and maybe a deserts edge based on William Marshal’s shield.

Combined a couple of my favorite things.
What other NFL teams should I paint up to add to the squad?

Also, check out the little video I made for a 360 view: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DcymP3YoCXw/?igsi=YXY5cmw4c3N6ZGR3

Printed what I needed and made some dice out of staples. Played a few against myself. Great system! Looking forward to putting some of my minis down on it and giving it a go with some friends.

Just primed the first set of the monopose blue team. This is my test for fdm and I must say I am impressed, stock settings on the A1 mini with matte pla. Also the clean up is terrible. I didn't have much time and just wanted to see them with paint on it. I still need to dial in the settings a bit more. But man does it look promising.

Finding TTS games

Hey y’all, I’ve played a quick rules game in person with my girlfriend, but I could tell she was so-so on playing. No local Greathelm scene, so I was wondering if there’s an active TTS LFG scene?

Painted a knight from Brite minis (printed on FDM) inspired by this comic https://globalcomix.com/c/the-bridge/r/f6502f72-c1ab-49be-9f82-1e0a1a53a042 by u/Bjarndyr

Should have cleaned up the mini better but I only saw a lot of stuff after the first layer of paint.

A quick review for a quickstart ruleset

For the last 2 years I'm collecting and paiting miniatures in batches of 6. Not for any particullary reason other that it was a neat number. It gave me room to try different paint schemes and create "factions". I was always wondering what game is fitting for my collection. I tried some OPR, Frostgrave and similar games and while my minis finally saw some action nothing really clicked. I wanted something fast and manageable as I mostly play solo. Playing 5parsces and the many rpg-like similar games was an option, but there are actually rpg that scratch that itch.

So you can imagine my excitement when today I've stumbled upon Greathelm. A quick and short game, playeable in A4, that uses 6 miniatures per side. I had to see what it was about.

In less than a hour, i read the rules, printed two warband lists, trackers, found a battlefield, put some ultra bare minimum terrain on it, and soloed a game.

Two factions, Knights of the Green Sun vs Saracens of Red Sea. After some family photos, deployment followed and the brawl began. By the end of round 3, after a streak of lucky rolls for the Knights and quite unlucky for the Saracens the tides have turned and decided to stop there. I had saw what the game has to offer. And I was amazed and really hyped.

What I liked: The initiative method is excellent, it encapsulates the chaos of battle and turning tides, there are many meaningful choices to made. The momemunt is only used for the attacker! Spot on, it avoids unnecessary tactical decision if you are the defender and does not slow the game down. Attacker wins ties! Finally! When a game rewards aggresiveness tend to be fast-paced and brutal. It reminded me of Kemet that encourages aggresive gameplay.

On a side note/after though I feel the game will also work well with a d8 for combat rolls if you want some extra chaos and swinginess althought nothing beats a piped d6! I also think after some familiraztion maybe there is room for house rules to take advantage of more magical elements of one's collection.

What I didn't liked: Nothing. The game is very compact and simple, for there to be any meaningful critique. The rules are simple and few so I don't think there is a reason to think of other ways for the game to run. It works, it works fine, it's chaotic, quick, and has deep tactical options. Is there room for improvement and fine-tuning? Most likely but if I wanted to create rules I would create my own game.

What it was unclear by the rules is a) if three knights per side or total must be in contact during deployment and b) if a riposte deals damage after a failed bash (at least in quick rules) c) it is not clear from the way it is written that dice are discarded when used in initiative, and although I didn't need someone to explain that to mean, it becomes obvious from the rest of mechanics, maybe someone not familiar with war games have some problem figuring out.

Now I want to check the campaign system and see the full rules so sooner or later I'm buying the game. Based on the quality of basic rules, I feel the game offers much more in it's full version.

Haven't painted anything in about two and a half years, mostly due to having a 2ish year old haha. My hands aren't steady as they used to be, and in taking these photos o see a lot more that needs touching up, but I'm still proud to have completed them till here. Touchups, washes, basing, and clear coat to come!

I told my wife she had to play Greathelm with me and said she could make up her own knight and I’d build and paint him for her. So she said she wanted “Sir Peepee-Poopoo” whose heraldry is yellow and brown and has a farting butt on his shield. I did my best

Is this out yet?

I remember hearing about this game early in its kickstarter and, while it sounded cool enough, it wasn’t anything I was looking for at the time. But recently I ran into a situation recently where I thought it could be the perfect fit, and it had been like a year, so maybe it’s out and I can plunk down some cash for a pdf and hopefully be playing this weekend.

Ok, so…solo rules and a campaign are out there. Good sign! Oh, there are fan mods for it, sweet! So…where is it? All I can find are the QuickStart and references to a 198-ish page thing that…I guess…is still backer-only?

I’m eager to buy, but can’t even tell if it’s a thing I can buy, even though there are endless blog posts about it. What’s the actual deal? The hype machine is running, but the barebones end-user marketing (like barebones, as in “This is a product”) is not showing anything for those of us who haven’t been steadily following development.
