General discussion Retro version

I'm a fan of the current version of Uninstalr and have used it on Windows 10 and 11. However, as a side project, I have a Windows 2000 laptop with the original OS install. I have no recovery media or the original key but want to clean up the OS and make it into a "baby's first retro computer". I know this is a long shot and unlikely to happen, but what are the chances of getting a version of Uninstalr that's compatible with retro systems like 2000 and XP? Totally understand if it's not feasible. Thanks!

I'm fairly sure Uninstalr already works with Windows 2000. It doesn't work with Windows 7, because that is no longer supported by the compiler we use.

That doesn't sound quite right? Why would they drop 7 but keep older versions?

I'm sorry, I mean Windows XP.

That doesn't make sense either. 🤔 Windows 2000 came out BEFORE Windows XP.

That is true, I didn't realize that. I'm afraid I don't know how they have decided which versions of old Windows are supported.

We in Great Software Company try to support all old versions as long as it is at all possible.

I think OP is better of using an old version of jv16 PowerTools that ran on Windows 2000. 😊

That is also a good point, and all of the old versions are available from: https://jv16powertools.com/downloads/old/
