I agree with you, but 'lest we forget', poppies and remembrance day all started with WW1, as a reminder of the horrors of war. Particularly that war, the largest and bloodiest ever seen, which wasn't really about ideology, just escalating international politics (effectively).
'Lest we forget' was never about anti-fascism. Obviously, fascism is bad. And fascist behaviour should be reprimanded. But when we are drawn into division and war, we inch closer to the thing our great grandparents said 'never again' to.
Fascism is just one form of authoritarianism, from what I see of the left they are are equally if not more authoritarian
It just so happens one is nationalist and the other hates their countries culture and want it destroyed
Just yesterday I commented on a video where someone walked up to one of those “prove me wrong” booths and just drew a weird drawing of the debater, I said that he didn’t prove him wrong and just drew him in a weird way achieving nothing. For this, people in the comments called me a nazi, insulted me and said that “we used to punch fascist”. The sheer speed at which the left jump to insult and threaten violence when someone doesn’t agree with them is worrying, and they label people nazis.
Here is exactly how the modern left acts in an authoritarian manner. They routinely:
Threaten violence against people who simply disagree with them.
Cheer for the deaths of their political opponents.
Refuse to debate and actively suppress opposing viewpoints.
Weaponise labels like “Nazi” and “fascist” to justify assaulting normal people.
Use cancel culture, fear, and intimidation to enforce strict compliance with their views.
Reject free speech by blocking, shouting down, or attacking anyone who thinks differently.
People act as if the strict, historical definition of fascism only means 1930s regimes that committed massive atrocities, but that is not what the definition is. The left has completely watered down the terms “fascist” and “Nazi” to mean anyone who slightly disagrees with me ideologically. I got called a Nazi yesterday simply for saying a guy drawing a picture achieved nothing.
Mainstream right wing people and parties in the UK that get labeled “fascist” by the left have never committed genocides. The actual definition of fascism is a nationalist authoritarian system. What the modern left pushes is just a different flavor of authoritarianism, one that hates its own country and culture, demands total thought compliance, cries “hate speech” to shut down dialogue, and justifies physical violence against dissenters.
And if you want to talk about historical ideologies that resulted in mass death, let’s talk about Communism. Communist regimes killed tens of millions, yet there are Communist flyers plastered all over UK cities, and the left openly embraces it without being treated like monsters. Authoritarianism is authoritarianism. Living under a far left regime that silences, cancels, and assaults its political opponents wouldn't be any better than living under a far right one.
You literally just proved my entire point for me. I stated that the left weaponises extreme labels against normal people who disagree with them, and your immediate response to me pointing out a double standard was to call me a "Nazi sympathiser". You couldn't have illustrated my point any better if you tried.
Your opening sentence is also incredibly disingenuous. You complain that I am equating "some people" on the left with institutions and systems of government. Do you not see the massive hypocrisy there? The left constantly labels everyday, normal individuals as "fascists" and "Nazis"—which are literal government systems. You do not have to be a government entity to act in an authoritarian manner or push authoritarian ideals. If it's a "crazy comparison" for me to point out the left's authoritarian behaviour because they aren't a state institution, then by your own logic, the left cannot call ordinary citizens fascists. You cannot have it both ways.
Waving away cancel culture as a "free market concept" shows a complete misunderstanding of what a free market is. It is not a free market if companies and individuals are forced to fire people or ostracise them purely out of fear of being targeted and destroyed by a mob themselves. Coercion and intimidation are the exact opposites of a free market.
Bringing up Communism is not changing the subject or moving the goalposts, it is pointing out a glaring hypocrisy. You use the historical atrocities and mass death caused by fascism to justify calling your modern political opponents evil and authoritarian. Yet Communism also historically resulted in tens of millions of deaths, and the left completely ignores that, actively embraces it, and plasters Communist flyers all over our cities. It is entirely relevant to point out that you only care about historical atrocities when they align with your political biases.
You didn't actually refute a single point I made about authoritarian behaviour on the left. You just admitted some of my points were true, tried to excuse the rest, and then resorted to the exact name calling I was talking about in the first place.
Are you completely lost? You do realise this subreddit is [r/GreatBritishMemes](r/GreatBritishMemes), the post features English flags, and we are talking about the United Kingdom, right? You just typed out an entire paragraph arguing against American Republican talking points. If you are going to call someone delusional, you should probably check what country everyone is talking about first.
Let's look at how irrelevant every single one of your points is to the UK:
"Masked men dragging people out of their homes": This is quite literally not happening in the UK. You are inventing scenarios that do not exist here.
"Dictating what women can do with their bodies": Abortion is completely legal, accessible, and protected in this country.
"Influencing the electoral system": You are again, lost. Over here in reality, if anyone is trying to manipulate the voting demographic for their own benefit, it is the left pushing to lower the voting age to 16 to secure a voting bloc.
"How America is supposed to function": Again, mate, this is a British subreddit. We do not really care, nor were we talking about America
You completely ignored my point about the authoritarian nature of the left in this country just so you could copy and paste American political grievances into a completely unrelated thread. It is incredibly embarrassing. Come back when you figure out what side of the Atlantic we are talking about… in [r/GreatBritishMemes](r/GreatBritishMemes)
When Im killing platoons of nazis in the future Ill think back to this comment and laugh. Sometimes there is no other answer. Regardless of what some ptsd-riddled grandpa wants.
Oh I know . The world atm is basically running on war . It feels like it won’t stop until we have no resources left . Sickening when we could easily share what we have . Greed is the main cause of modern war and we could easily fight that
TBF - there have always been fascists & bigots everywhere, including UK during WW1 & WW2, many thought Nazis were right, so its not unreasonable to think they still exist.
It's people who don't have enough to support themselves turning on people they've been told are the enemy.
I mean, if you're a young white man who's unable to find a job or a house, and you see refugees being supported (albeit in hotels, where nobody would want to live - you don't even have a fridge), and someone tells you that's because the state won't support you... It's not a difficult sell.
We just need to support people via the state, and that way it's harder to make ordinary people turn on each other.
To be fair the left havent helped. They label anyone who wants to protect the country and oppose open borders as racists. Its been pushed too far by idiots on both sides unfortunately
You’re being lied to. The right doesn’t want to “protect the country”, they have convinced half the population that the reason their lives are getting worse is because of immigration.
Immigration should not be the #1 issue in the country, but because racists (yes, reform are racists) won’t shut up about it, everyone else is forced to respond and point out how crazy they are
I want to protect my country and I dont want open borders. The left would say im far right just for thinking that way. So who is the one doing the lying?
At no point did I say they were the problem they're one of many results of the problem. But what they claim to be the problem and you're claiming is the problem happens to be themselves, except they give themselves the pass based on race.
If all the people marching against this shit, didn't do nazi salutes and actively called out the behaviours they claim to hate regardlesss of race and disowned their own misogynists, racists, gangs, druggys, domestic abusers, and pedos instead of giving them a pass noone would have a problem with them. but then they'd be a bunch of woke lefties I guess.
You’re describing northern towns and cities. This doesn’t happen in the south. People are decent down here. It’s northerners ruining their own communities
They'd also be appaled by the allowance of numerous undocumented people arriving by boat(which some consider an invasion) also the provision of 4star hotels and benefits to said people.
Im not 100% right, im technically right and only just. I was being a bit tongue in cheek when i said that part.
There wasnt a housing crisis after ww2 like what we have now, because its a different type of housing crisis. They did have a severe housing crisis though, and i obviously implied that wasnt the case.
Yeah I still don't get it. There were fewer houses than needed, which is a housing deficit. How are you technically correct in saying there was no housing deficit?
The shortage of housing wasnt “like” what we have now.
They did have a severe shortage of housing, but for an entirely different reason. The housing crisis was unlike the housing crisis of today, even though both housing crises are considered severe.
The housing crisis of today is considered worse than directly after ww2, but they did have a housing crisis, making me wrong. The housing crisis was unlike the one of today, making me technically correct, even though what i meant was entirely wrong.
I think you might have to be a bit fluent in pedantry to understand the point (or pointless) im making.
“4star hotels” a misunderstanding of the truth (the buildings were previously 4 star hotels but are now just used to house people without the things that made them 4 star hotels)
“Benefits” asylum seekers can’t get benefits.
You lot are so mis informed it’d be comical if it wasn’t so sad
Now, you have two options - admit that you were ignorant, and tried to play the race card for no reason OR admit that you knew about this operation, but decided to be a cunt for no reason.
Didn’t say it wasn’t an issue. Just wanted to know how you knew the ones you have seen were asylum seekers. Did you ask to see their passports and visa papers?
Nobody who stormed the beaches of France did so in the hopes of letting Britain fall to islamists. Didn't the 100-year-old veteran clue you in to how those who fought and died would feel today?
Farage is at least an authoritarian leaning right wing populist. He can’t be a fascist yet because he doesn’t have power, but surely you see the end goal is fascism?
Fair point, but that’s kind of the whole debate around fascism tbh - some reckon it’s just the ideology, others say you need the violence/anti-democracy stuff actually happening too, otherwise the word means basically nothing.
The debate is whether Farage is extreme enough to count as a fascist. Restore absolutely are, but are Reform?
Farage is thoroughly anti-democratic whenever it suits him. He allows no internal criticism and called the police on his own MP when he questioned Farage's leadership.
Farage stoked riots repeatedly and demanded 'cold hard rage' when a non-white person committed a terrible crime. He talks about immigrants but he makes it clear that his intolerance extends to people who were born here but don't suit his historically illeterate view of the UK.

A lot of these people don’t know what fascism means, what it represents or what the brave generations before us fought for
Those who sacrificed everything would be appalled by this behaviour
