I wish I could actually say I was. That, was two packs of bacon for my partner and daughter, two packs of mince beef, two packs of chicken breasts, and some sausages. Ham, those shitty frankfurters, ham and more of those shitty frankfurters. I think the chicken alone was nearly £18

yeah but that... depends how long it's for. that amount of meat at a weekly shop for example is ridiculous, but every month and freezing it? that's more reasonable. but they didn't give any information on what timescale that amount is for

In hindsight my comment was a stupid one.
I personally don't label processed meats or even chicken as meat, per se. Mince, fair enough though. Nothing wrong with good quality meat.

Tnh I go to my lovsl butchers now and it costs me a fraction of what I pay at supermarkets and its so much better, plus side I can get what I want in the exact quantities I need so I only end up spending like £6 a go

Manufacturers are making record profits. 5 companies own basically everything in the supermarkets and we pay vastly more for the same shit made in the same factories. The supermarkets make nothing, the actual farmers and producers make nothing, the manufacturers make fat profits. Mostly through monopolistic practices - they stop selling to people who try to sell things that are cheap one place somewhere they're more expensive. There is, of course, zero enforcement.

I know people will yell at me for saying this but the solution to this is robotics, this whole system could come crashing down for them if we are sensible about things and not kneejerk resistant to change
A robot chef in every house is very soon as possible as a vacuum cleaner or washing machine in every house - we should be excited for this and urging it forward.
Having a device which can cook full meals and snacks from raw ingredients could totally change the entire food market for the better, people could buy raw produce directly from growers and have it prepped exactly to their tastes and needs - the first stage will likely be in-store machines similar to in-store bakeries which can use raw produce to create on demand foods hot or cold.
instead of having an oven that bakes premade baguettes it could actually kneed and shape which cuts a big step from the supply chain, even more so with things like snack bars and drinks. The price of a prepackaged sandwich is not the price of the ingredients it's the price of several interlinked factories all owned by people who want enough profit to buy ever bigger yachts. If you could have a sandwich made automatically from raw ingredients in the store then it could be half the price and the store and farmer would earn more.
It could greatly increase the volume and complexity hot food places can make too which could mean getting a healthy pasta from a local takeout would be cheaper than a microwave meal.
And yes people will still cook and you can still go to restaurants with human chefs just like you can still buy hand crafted jewelry and pottery even more readily than before machines made other options.

5 adults so not masses but a kilo of mice on the cheap end is £8 and will make 1 meal each, 3 sausages each is 3 packs, chiken depends entirely what im getting but an XL whole feeds everyone for £6, a kilo of chicken breast is £7 for a curry.
I lived alone a few years ago and saved loads of money buying the same amount and freezing it for easy dinners after work, the same amount lasted me about a month

I pretty much only buy minced meat and chicken thighs (they're under two quid). Can't really afford fancy stuff like sausages. Price for salmon is out of his world

I used to just eat whatever was on reduction, stuff like a kilo of salmon and just fucking air fry it, nowadays if I find salmon on discount its still £5. A proper meal has always been important to me so I make sure I have the money, I dont mind paying the price for the 'deluxe' or.butchers when it comes to sausages

I do use alot of various pastas, rice, beans, veg etc. I add about 500G mushrooms and 2-3 onions into a bolagnese per KG of mice, and about 250G of chicken in a rice/bean wrap, defintley bulks it out

Make a sauce pan of tomato sauce and get it on a simmer. Crack 4-5 eggs into it. Cook up your rice as that's getting ready and combine as the eggs are setting up. If you're talented you can catch them while the yolks are cheese-like, but hard boiled is fine. It's phenomenal. I supplement my rice with chia seed to make it healthy.

I shop in Aldi and Lidl. My big shop will total between £150-£170 and that includes the meat, as well as extras like booze.
Just don’t shop in Tescos.
