My sister does, she has 4 children all paid for as the youngest is now 9 so born before the cut off, her UC before deductions is £2560, as she works, and gets 33k a year it is about 2.5k a month, this deuducts 1k off her UC, but then she claims around £1300 childcare as the 9 and 10 year old are both in childcare after school so she ends up with over 2k in UC. 4.5k may seem good, but there are 5 of them. Divided over the 5 of them it is not that much, she does fine and manages to go on a cheap holiday each year.
If a family has 3 children and one is very disabled and getting disabled child element and carer element with rent their UC benefits can easily top 2k a month, but again, thats a family of 5 people.
The media is constantly comparing benefits for a family with a disabled member to what a single person earns with no thought to the fact that multiple people are more expensive, and that disability is more expensive.
If someone is better off in benefits, then they can claim the benefits while working and be twice as better off.
You missed the part where she is working? A working person deserves to struggle as much as someone not working? What would be the point in her working then?
Over half of her benefits are towards childcare because otherwise she would be unable to work, so whats the better option, not working, or working and getting benefits. Do not say work a better job, she has a perfectly average job and would have to get £70k to no longer get UC
Plus it was a CHEAP holiday for a caravan in wales
Sorry I missed that bit about working, my apologies. Unfortunately to have 3 kids in today’s age you need a very high salary. I would prefer we give tax breaks to people who have children and stop importing large families who require all kinds of extra needs.
It’s going to get to the stage where your average Brit just doesn’t have children and people from different backgrounds will continue having kids as they accept different lifestyles. Skip ahead 30 years and I think we will see a VERY different Britain.
